This is made in CA4 and iClone with Toonshader.
I used a lot of image layers in both, all made in PS.
+ Subtitles added in Sony Vegas.

Shadows, LUTS & Lighting are always switched off in my "How to Videos"
DOF is only in a few long shots and only subtle, because it's trickier with 2D backgrounds.
Sometimes I just use a Gaussian blur if it starts crashing during rendering.

The voiceover track sucks, sorry. I don't have a good mic at the moment, so I used my phone to record both voices, and I lost a bit of quality there.... sigh.

True Story obviously...

+ both the Toon T-Shirts (on Gran & Gramps) are also available for sale on my website in sizes S to 5XL in almost any colour.
Links below the video.

btw, I can highly recommend merchandising your own toon-clothing designs if you make originals too.
It helps to fatten your wallet quite nicely, even when we can't monetise our youtube videos much any more.

Any suggestions for a good quality affordable mic would be greatly appreciated.

Why has nobody else commented on this yet? This was fantastic! Great use of animation and humor to spread some good information. The soundtrack was just fine as it is. Well done!

Thanks Paul!

I think it may be: the thumbnail does not appeal to the main viewership in this forum. I'm used to producing for a much younger market.

I might try the following new thumbnail for a while, and see if that makes any difference..?

I'd love to know what you think about it.

:) Ani

Hi Ani,

Haha, I don't remember any problems with the other thumbnail, but this one is great. An award-winning production if I ever saw one!

Thanks also for the tip about merchandizing our original designs. I was wondering whether that was worth the trouble. I just need to figure out how to create the proper format for iContent (or whatever is needed), and maybe I'll give that a try. Do you know of any resources that teach us how to create merchandizable content?

Thanks!
Paul

yes I learned it all on youtube.

There's so many to choose from. I think Design by Humans is the greenest and available in most countries.

For me, in Australia, I just went with my local company.

Etsy and a few others wanted me to pay a monthly fee for hosting my store, regardless of low or zero sales at first, so I avoided anybody who wanted to make money from me with no guarantee of help with sales.

If you are lucky to live in the usa then you have a very wide choice, all with free postage.

Choosing your store is the hardest part... after that, you just upload your art work, position it on your merchandise, and click "publish for sale".

Honestly, it takes more time to set up the scene, so I often just use fun or dramatic stillshots from cartoons that I have to make for other clients anyway.

Hope it can help you too.

Oh, we may be talking about two different things. I meant how to create iContent (characters, scenes, props, motions, etc) in the correct format to sell in the Reallusion marketplace?!

All the best,
Paul

By the way, if audio is a problem for you try to get a Rode NT1 microphone. They're fantastic for the price! Also, Rode is based in Australia. So while they are always out of stock in the U.S. maybe you can get one more easily. Check it out here: https://www.rode.com/microphones/nt1

All the best,

Awesome! Thanks for that tip.

Re the sale of merchandise in the Reallusion Store.

I'm really sorry that I can't help you with that very much any more. Everything has changed so much since I last uploaded anything.

Then I had to switch off my store anyway, because several of us (creators) suddenly had huge debts appear against our accounts (some kind of credit card scam back in March, which Reallusion have not yet refunded to most of the victims. Sadly, they say that they were victims too, which is understandable, but businesses who use international financial services are all supposed to be insured against that kind of thing, and they are supposed to be obligated to protecting us, as the innocent 3rd parties in the transaction too. So I honestly have no idea why it hasn't been fixed properly yet after all this time.)

In any case, I mainly sell PNGs, BVHs and MP4s, which are compatible with every kind of animation software so they can be sold in many more online stores, hence I just went back to doing that until I feel safe to come back.

But I am not trying to put you off, because aside from that situation, Reallusion are usually great with their support for creators. If you submit a support ticket, I am sure that they will be able to send you a link to all the latest information on how to create your store and upload everything.

I buy a lot from other creators in the store because I often need to create animations for clients much faster than if I can create all the scene assets. So I'll be hoping you have great luck with it. Much better than I did, hopefully.

Cheers,
Ani

Thanks so much for the information Ani. Since I'm not an artist and can't really draw or paint, it's good to know that I could just sell simple PNG and MP4 files.

That's very concerning about the credit card fraud, however. A valid debt is when you agree to repay someone based on full disclosure of the terms of the agreement. But simply demanding that someone pay money that they never agreed to pay with informed consent is either legalized (think EYE ARE ESS) or criminal extortion: using coercion to compel another person to pay you against their will, or even against their own best interests. It is theft, pure and simple. That is a fundamental crime against humanity that civilization has fought to stop through from the Magna Carta and outlawing debtors prisons, to the U.S. Constitution (now defunct, RIP). That never should have been allowed to happen, and Reallusion needs to make it right.

I wish you well selling your products elsewhere though!

All the best,
Paul
