Just to let anyone here know if you want to bring any Daz file into iClone with all textures I now have a Python script which does it.

I'll be doing a full explanation of its use (with links to the script) on my YouTube channel and I know most of you here who follow me are following me there.

I'm keen to see this Mike :)

It works but it needs a lot more polish.  I have limited time due to my tennis (which wears me out physically AND intellectually :>).  I'll try and do some major work on it Saturday (basic issues now are still some naming concerns but also that it loads in 4K textures and I want the option to reduce those textures and/or link them to avoid memory issues.  I had the code to do this with my Blender routine but as I've changed machines I will now have to hunt it down or reinvent it).

Wise move sir!!
as  Daz content today has abandoned all sanity
with 4 ,even 8k textures on every surface of some content.

they even sell a script in the Daz store that reduces the textures
because many people with beefy hardware are quickly exceeding their GPU limits and dropping to CPU for a single portrait renders with Iray.

I gave up trying to make people understand that your audience is limited to the resolution of their viewing device and the majority of people have not migrated to 4-8K monitors.

Brilliant Mike! - Seems to me that 5 or even 10 minutes is nothing compared to the overall time this would save ...

good work,it seems I have no the python talent.

Everyone has different skill sets.  I was paid for many, many decades as a programmer and even though those particular set of skills are pretty deteriorated by now, I can still muck my way through a few things.

Or, to put it another way, not everyone (or even most) need to do anything with Python in iClone.  Conversely, if you think you do need it, it's not hard to learn.

Congratulations on getting your script to beta stage Kelly, cant wait to see it evolve. I like to see people try new things and step out their comfort zone. Cant be easy learning new programming languages and mythology's after years out of the industry. No brown nosing, just saying.

Thanks for the kind words.

I think stretching my mind like this may keep me, if not young, at least able to think.  But I have to kind of stay away from programming because it's an addiction and then I don't get anything else done (like animating).  So it's a balancing act.

My script uses (doesn't require but if you don't have it you won't get image compressions and needed alterations) the installation of the pillow library (NOT Pil, which is an unsupported and obsolete library).  Here are instructions on how to install 3rd party Python libraries in iClone:

Hello, Mike!

I'm interested in your script.  I may need a few simple instructions as I can figure most of it out.  I watched your video on this as well.  I'll email you as well.

Thank you,
Pete

My script for iClone 7 works fine - iClone 8 is still a bit buggy and I haven't released it to the general public.  (It will run but still has issues I haven't ironed out yet due to my schedule).

Which version of iClone are you using?
By peterbehere - 4 Years Ago
I just upgraded to Iclone 8
By Kelleytoons - 4 Years Ago
Yeah, my version for 8 definitely has some issues (they changed Python versions AND changed some of their calls - none of which are horrible in the extreme but make fixing it a real chore).

Given the holiday season I'm not sure I have the time to even look at this until next year, but I do have several videos on my channel explaining how to use the older version.  If you still have iClone 7 installed (and you should - there are still things it can do that 8 cannot) you can always import there, get all the textures, and then export the scene to open in 8.  If that interests you at all here is the starting video (and you can find the rest easily):

I looked at this and this is for the beta version.  The new version runs around 10x faster so it's MUCH better (but you can find the videos on it as well).  Less than a minute or two even for advanced scenes.

Mike,
Thanks for pointing me to the more relevant video.  When I attempted to download from the link, it said the file is no longer available for download.  I can wait until after the Holidays to bug you again. :)  I hope yours are very merry.

Thanks,
Pete

LOL - yeah, remind me again next week and I'll see what I can do.
