I wanted to create my first scene with the Nature Terrain Generator, but when I clicked on "Generate Terrain" I got the message "Failed to open. Can't find the file." Not a good start.

-The plugin is installed

-The rocks are installed

-The materials (316) are installed

What could be the problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

You have a funny template path - template nested in template. I'd try moving all your stuff from "iclone template" to "iClone 7 Template" (which is where it should all be, normally).

Hi Kelleytoons, thank you very much for the quick answer. I can't believe it, but my funny template path I had also in iClone 6.

Maybe this is wrong, but I have made 100+ little clips without problems.
When I install new content, iClone installs this automatic in the folder Template iClone7/Template iClone...
I have installed the folder Materials Lib/Nature Terrain Generator in the iClone 7 template to try it

and unfortunately the result is:

I can work with the paths and the rocks of the Nature Terrain Generator. No problem. Maybe it's necessary to download also the free python script. Or is the Nature Terrain Generator "stand alone"?
Thanks again.

The paths appear to be correct, even if the content is stored somewhere other than the RL default locations.

The plugin folder is also in the correct place.
It really doesn't help that the error message isn't mentioning which file can't be found. One thing to check would be the permissions for the folders.
I would try an uninstall and reinstall of the files to see if that clears the error. The content can be uninstalled using the Smart Gallery, but the plugin needs to be uninstalled using Settings>Apps.

Arie,
We were posting at the same time. From the image in your first post it would appear that you have already installed the plugin in the correct location, it is placed there after running the "Nature_Terrain_Generator_for_IC_Enu.exe" file containing the python scripts that you seem to have already downloaded and run.

There are two steps to install the Terrain Generator: 1) Run the Nature_Terrain_Generator_for_IC_Enu.exe file to install the plugin. 2) Install the Terrain Generator from the "Smart Gallery" to install the textures, morphs, images, etc.

Hi Arie,
Some content packs included in a plug-in tool may write in Python, Lua or AML, doesn't support a free path, so you need to move the content pack back to the default path. For more details and steps, please refer to the instructions in the link below : https://kb.reallusion.com/General/52988/I-purchased-a-pack-and-it-included-a-plugin-tool-When-I-use-the-tool-I-got-a-data-not-found-message-but-the-data-is-already-in-the-Smart-Gallery-How-d
Thank you.

@Gerry and Jeff. Thank you very much for your answers. I followed the correct route with the installation, but also got an answer from Alvin(RL). For me it's a big puzzle. Here is my answer to Alvin.
@Alvin(RL) Many thanks for the answer. I followed the instructions in the link. -right click on the pack and choose move location

-click Default And here is a problem. When I choose Default the path is: D:/Bestanden/Reallusion-iClone7/Template/iClone 7 Template/iClone Template and not C:/Users/Public/Documents/Reallusion/Template/iClone 7 Template/iClone Template. When I installed iClone (years ago) I could choose the location for the Template and Custom content .
I have tried to make a new folder on my C disk for the default location.

But that isn't possible, because the structure is different. It should be C:/Users/Public/Documents but on my PC the structure is C:/Users/Public/Public Documents. And there is alreay a folder Reallusion(see picture above).
So I thought I make a new folder C:/Users/Public/Documents/Reallusion/Template/iClone 7 Template/iClone Template. I have moved the content to this location. I saw the content was on the location (find file) and I also saw that on my D disk were shortcuts in the iClone folders were the content was installed before .
But when I tried to generate a terrain the pictures and plane could not be found.
Maybe I made a mistake. I hope you can help me.
Best Regards, Arie

Arie,
I normally wouldn't contradict one of the techs from RL, but in this case Alvin is seriously wrong in his answer regarding the content path for this plugin.
I have already posted screen shots of my content paths, but here they are again:
G:\IC7\Template\iClone 7 Template\iClone Template\Materials Lib\Nature Terrain Generator

G:\IC7\Template\iClone 7 Template\iClone Template\Props\Nature Terrain Generator

Both of the above root folder paths were selected by me many years ago when iClone 7 was first installed and I have never had any issues with installed content not being found or not functioning correctly.
The Python plugin is the only one present in a default folder:
C:\Program Files\Reallusion\iClone 7\Bin64\OpenPlugin\NatureTerrainGenerator
Everything is working OK with the plugin.
Your screen shot of the content download log file also shows that the that everything has been correctly installed in the correct path listed in the iClone section of the Windows registry.
Making new folders and moving stuff around isn't going to solve the problem in my opinion. Did you try to uninstall and then reinstall both the content pack and the plugin?

@Gerry, Many thanks for the answer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the plugin and the content pack. Result: Everything is the same as it was.
I can't understand that the plugin works on your system (and -I think- on the system of many others) and not here. My plugin version is 23.0.0.511.
I'll wait for an anwer of Alvin.
At worst I can build a terrain with the planes and materials. They also work without the plugin. But it takes more time.

One thing you can definitely do is run the Python script outside of the "plugin" process. I'd have to look right now to see what the first one to run is, but if you run it in the Python tab you can then see better error messages that will tell us exactly what the problem is.
(I just got through with two and a half hours of hard tennis in the heat or my brain would be more helpful, but others here will tell you exactly the steps. And then you can report what it says).

I can confirm what Gerry says. A custom path will be OK. For example, I have everything under F:\Media\Reallusion\Template\...etc., and I have never had a problem with that.
I have a project to complete right now but running the python script directly as Mike suggests hopefully will give some insight.
Arie, C:\Public\Documents and C:\Public\Public Documents are equivalent (one is a shortcut of the other).
If you click Public Documents, you will see the actual path in File Explorer as C:\Public\Documents.

Looking at the py code, most objects that fail to open have a specific error message: i.e. 'Failed to import plane', 'Plane file is missing!' The following file does not have a specific error message, if not found, so should result in the default error you saw if it was missing. ..\iClone Template\Props\3D Blocks\Box_001.iProp Check and see if the above file exists. It should exist since that is a standard iClone file but at this point it doesn't hurt to check everything.

Excellent detective work Jeff. :)
I just tried this by renaming the Box_001 file before starting iClone and as soon as I ran the Plugin I was presented with the "File not found" error. Restoring the original file name solved the issue.
Arie should really check the contents of his Props>3D Blocks folder to ensure that this box is there.

@Kelleytoons and animagic 8 years working in iClone but I must admit that I have no knowledge of the python script and I have never used it. How do I run the python script? I tried this:

I opened python, but I don't see a screen or something else in iClone. Job, also thanks for the explanation of the C:/Public/Documents. And I also have everyting under D:/Bestanden.... etc. and had no problems till now.

@Jeff and Gerry Thanks for the help. I have checked my "boxes" and they are ok.

But I found something else when I tried to open python.(in Script-the console log.)

This is what the console log reports when I try to generate a terrain and iClone shows the message "Failed to open. Can't find the file". Maybe this explains something. (Unfortunately I don't understand it)

Not everyone uses all aspects of iClone ( I know *I* don't).
Under the top menu "Script" first choose "Console Log". This will give you a tab that will allow you to see exactly what is happening when you run Python. Then under "Script" just choose "Load Python". Then the only trick is to know which file to load first and, honestly, I *just* woke up and opened my eyes so I'm not sure which one it is but even a tiny bit of experimentation will show you (or Jeff will chime in here and tell you).
That should show exactly what the problem is.

Arie,
Looking at the screen shot of your iClone folders it would appear that the Box_001 is not in a default folder.
In the NatureTerrainGenerator.py line 235 is trying to rename the Box_001 that it expects line 234 to load:

The script expects the Box_001 prop to be in the root of the 3D Blocks folder where it is installed by default as shown in my screen shot below:

I don't know how the "Base" folder got added in your 3D Block folder, but it is not there as a default one and the Nature Builder plugin can not load the box prop because it's not where it is supposed to be.
Use Windows Explorer and move, or at least copy, the files from your 3D Blocks > Base folder to the root of the 3D Blocks folder and everything should work as expected. If you don't wish to move the complete contents of the "Base" folder then just copy the Box_001.iProp file to the root and the plugin should be working after that.

@Gerry The problem is solved !!! I can use the Nature Terrain Generator now. It works great. As you wrote the problem was the box. I had the box (and other 3D blocks) installed in a folder called Base. Since iClone5 I have all the content that was not in a specific folder installed in an own folder. It was never a problem......till now. I have to repair this. There is work to be done.......

Many, many thanks for all the help from you and the other forum members.

I love happy ends.:):):) All's well that ends well......... I really didn't understand what a box had to do with it. But the box is a dummy to move and rotate the Terrain Group. I have learned a lot of this.

Hi pinguintje,
Sorry for the late reply and glad you fixed the problem!
Regarding the default path, RL will set your content installation path to the default path and record it in the system when you install iClone or CC by Reallusion Hub.

When you click "Default" in "Settings" or "Move Location", it will show the path you chose before. If you didn't change the path during the program installation, it will keep the original path(system drive) as the default path(usually in C drive).
In this case, Nature Terrain Generator doesn't support a free path, if you change the location of this pack, the file does not appear in the "default path", it will cause problems when you using it. Sorry for the confusion, we will keep improving this in the future.
Best Regards, Alvin
