Not Sure if this is Even Possible, But...

So, I have a mechanical spider and have tried about a billion times now to animate him walking with Edit Animation Layer, and it just... is not working. I got some spider walking motions from the Realusion store, but as I feared, they won't work on him because he's not compatible, despite the fact that he's literally shaped like a spider. I doubt this is possible, but if ANYONE knows how I could maybe make him compatible, or tweak the motions to work with him, that would save hours and hours of my life, and about half my sanity too.

Screenshots for reference:

Thank you guys! You're amazing!

this is one of those scenarios where you have several options, but the easiest and best would be to simply animate it. Luckily there are videos that explain the spiders walk rhythm.

every other approach i can think of involves retargeting and learning other software,  and even then not guaranteed to look proper, so you risk wasting time making something look "meh" -  besides it wouldn't hurt you to develop some keyframing skills, thus not a waste of time no matter how much longer it would take than just loading a motion. time to roll up the sleeves and grab the spider by it's tentacles!

this one is for the modo software -  but the objective is to get the walk cycle pattern / rhythm, which applies to iclone.

and this is the reference image he used ,   it doesn't look hard - just 5 postures ( 1 and 6 are the same )...and probably a ton faster than all the drama of retargeting and tweaking an existing motion. Just load this image up on a billboard in iclone so you don't have to go back and forth from browser. ( that's how I make my custom motions )

That's actually the EXACT image I used about two hours ago. The result was wonky. I'm pretty sure it's just that I'm bad at this, but I really need it to work. I did end up just accepting the last try I did, but it's wonky too. I honestly have been trying this for DAYS now. I think I just really suck at it. Ugh.

I have been "rolling up my sleeves" for days. I came on here as a last effort, because every try I've done has sucked, and I have put literal hours and hours into this. I finally just accepted the last one. It sucks, but it looks like the best I can do is suck.

Here it is. Still wonky, but I'll take it.  (I'm also really annoyed that this is the widest stride iClone will let me do with my human character running as well.)

ok,  maybe you don't like how that run looks,  but from here it's the cutest mini me run ever!! :w00t:

Check your pm,  I sent you a fast run motion for your human.

Thank you! That really made me smile. :) Cute is perfect, since the spider is a character named Echo who actually acts more doglike than spiderlike. :)

I was bored tonight, since I didn't want to pick just one supermodel, and leave the rest sad (again).

This may be the world's ugliest robot spider, but after I walk my dog I will see if I can use Python to move, rotate the head, and talk, but not all at the same time.

Thank you. :) Would the motions work for a different prop in iClone?

Here is a youtube link of iclone motions for scorpion, spider and ant. You can download them from his page.

I finally got my Python script "kind of" working, but then I watched a real spider walk and the legs are more in front than my spider.

Is your Spider all one piece, or are the Legs separate props?

The Python script needs to be able to get to Leg1, Leg2, etc.

The way I built my first version looks more like synchronized oars from a rowing team than a spider walking. I also need to create a leg that goes up and then down, but hopefully soon I can get something that looks less like a dying cock roach.https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/367426ef-3f1a-44c1-81c0-97a6.png

@data_juggler

one work around devs used to do to work around that was to create a dummy character that you attach parts to. In your case,  create a block shaped spider with walk and all,  users attach legs and body separately.  like the scifi robot builder set base - they've made them for humans, dogs and horses as well... https://www.reallusion.com/contentstore/csproduct.aspx?contentid=AIC410DIENU011620091225001%20&MenuItem=ic_avatar&Type=Creature%20Base
