Hair problems after IClone Transfer and Livelink in Unreal Engine

I am currently using Unreal Engine 4.26 and the latest versions of IClone 7, Character Creator 3, and Unreal Livelink. When transferring a character from IClone to UE4 using Livelink and the automatic CC setup plugin the hair always turns out far brighter and with odd transparency issues that result in a huge loss of detail and quality. I've tried the same process with UE version 4.25 and many different hair assets from Character Creator and this issue always occurs. All the tutorials I've watched from Reallusion made it seem like the transfer from IClone to Unreal was pretty much a one click, automated process and their hair has always looked fine. Is there a step I'm missing or a fix anyone might be able to recommend? Thanks for the help!

Man same here - Really frustrating as i bought so much hair from reallusion and Yeah i can use groom hair assets in ue4 but i want to use the hair I've paid money for. I can't find any information anywhere DOES ANYONE KNOW THE FIX FOR THIS! The tutorials are so misleading as if it's just a one click solution..

Been having a similar issue too but when I transfer over to unreal my hair is transparent and parts are missing. I notice that your clothing on your character transferred over. When I transferred over to unreal my characters jacket disappeared…did you ever have this problem?

im having terrible issues also.  I will keep looking for an answer but right now im nearly done with this.  I may be moving to METAHUMAN if i cant get this resolved.

I have the same issue, to fix it I have to make the color of the hair darker by selecting the white diffuse and making it a greyish color

I have tried dozens of times, the hair never transfers perfectly. I hope this problem will be fixed with CC4 and the new plugin.

I'm just guessing here.. Check what sRGB/RGB setting is being used inside Unreal Engine compared to Character Creator 3.
Like, if you turn sRGB on/off inside Character Creator 3 for your hair, increase/decrease the value for it you will notice that the hair gets a lot brighter, even turning white maybe.
Check if this setting happens to be on/off or can be adjusted/tweaked somehow inside Unreal Engine. This is maybe not the issue but maybe it's worth a shot to take a look at it? Smile
I'm talking about the materials and their settings.

I can't even export hair from iClone to Unreal Engine right now. The command prompts always gets stuck after the following message:
[2022.01.04-00.32.32:357][  0]LogMaterial: Display: Missing cached shadermap for High_polytail_Transparency_Pbr in PCD3D_SM5, Default, SM5 (DDC key hash: 481121A8B1758D8F091DFC1C663C53D40BC09261), compiling.

Ive been having this issue for a long time.  I keep thinking I'm gonna be able to fix it and I never can.  You follow the tutorials and put the character with smart hair in the scene, and not only are the textures way off, it doesn't match color, etc etc, and it looks so bad that no amount of fixing can fix it and I wind up buying another groom.  Frustrating.

I have a problem too with my hair physics transfer between iClone and UE4. While smooth in iClone, the hair becomes jittery in Unreal engine 4. But I am new to Unreal engine and Live link. there are some settings I have yet to explore.

I have a video on soft cloth physics in Unreal 4, same ideas apply to 5 as well.

I think this is a Reallusion "Smart Hair" export thing.

I recently tried to replicate some Disney Characters inside CC3 and then transferred them to Unreal Engine 5.
The Elsa Character, where the Smart hair builder was used, came out terrible. While the Rapunzel Character, using one of the Swarm hairs exported perfectly.
My best guess would be that it has something to do with the importing of the hair diffuse and opacity maps.

The images below show the difference...

PS: For those of you who want to see how I made these characters using just the sliders in CC3. here is the link to the tutorial I uploaded a couple of days ago.

Hi 4413Media,

Yes, I has seen this tutorial. But the settings seem to be different in my version of Unreal engine 4.26. I can't seem to make the cloth paint tool work.

I have that hair set. Let me import a character into 4.26 and see what I can do. I’ll post a video later this afternoon.

There has been hairstyles with no soft cloth settings.

Double post now turned into actual post.

Make sure the Clothing Data is highlighted. It will reveal the faces. There is soft cloth data, some adjustments need to be made.

When painting, make sure the value is set anywhere from 0 to 10. I would paint the bottom first and go back and forth a few times to see how it works out. Then I would smooth out using this tool

Most important thing to note. Expand ClothConfigNV

Make adjustments when needed, but one feature is often buggy. Collision thickness, it's why the hair often goes wild. It was set at 2 originally, I change it to .05.

Any more bugs and it's worth looking into the configuration and seeing what adjustments do what to help fix any soft cloth bugs. Hope it helps.

Hi 4413Media,

Thanks for taking the time to bring precisions. Unfortunately, I don't have positive results just yet. I apply the brush, but it doesn't seem to effect anything. The hair is still jittery when I render.  I'll have to work on it some more.

It's a waste of time trying, I've tried everything.
I even created Cloth from scratch.
It will never be like the original.
Not to mention the shading issues.
Also why do we have to struggle for hours after transferring the hair to the UE?
By 4413Media - 2 Years Ago
It takes time to get it right. Lot of factors as well… including lighting, rendering settings, etc. You will have to experiment in the configuration settings to get the best results for the soft cloth.

If you’re using the Movie Render Queue. It is important to not overwrite your anti aliasing, otherwise it will cause issues in the end.

This is a test of the beta in UE 5. The hair was a challenge but I got it working under some adjustments.

Some hairs are easier, but often fail.
If you try parted hair (curly hair etc.), your job is quite difficult.
In fixed characters, if I need to output a picture, there is no problem because it does not work physically.

I can somehow use the lighting for my game project
But I will have different works such as Virtual Studio and Advertising videos and I need very clear images in them.
I'm really going to need a very clear hair image and physique. So hiding the hair in any way using light is not the solution for me.
What I would like to see in UE is clarity and physics being the same as iClone. For example, there are very few problems with clothes.
I've seen a lot of really perfectly realistic hair work done with yeast on youtube and showcased with UE. I'm sure these are doable. However, the current system is far from these.
The number of people who already have problems with hair is very high.
We all know that hair does not transfer well.
There will always be an acceptable difference.
However, there is a difference between the hairs transferred to the UE, like a cliff.

I don't want to accept this problem as such.
I hope RL does something about it.
