Hi,

I'd like to use iClone to produce movies to go on YouTube etc. And I'd like to use the voices that are bundled with iClone such as Serena.

Can you please tell me where to find the license agreement?

I can see on the Voices Add-on page that there is a "Special License" but I can't actually see it.

Am I allowed to use the voices in YouTube videos? Can I sell videos using the voices?

Thanks

The TTS voices you see in iClone are those that are installed on your PC independent of your iClone installation. For example, I don't have a Serena voice, but I see it is a RealSpeak voice. The use of TTS voices is governed by a license outside of iClone and depends on the specific vendor.

The special license link on the iClone page is for Cepstral voices, and, I admit, is extremely confusing. Now, since they are sold through RL for animation purposes I would think that you should be allowed to show films that use them on YouTube.

Thanks zuijlen for clarifying the situation.

I remember now I think I got those voices with Oddcast or a similar app I installed before finding iClone.

The "Special license applies." on this page has me stumped. I can't find a link to it at all.

Anyone know where this license can be viewed before purchasing? Support?

Thanks

I went to the Cepstral website directly, but that wasn't much help either. A clarification from RL would be most welcome... :ermm:

Why there aren't Italian voices? :)
By animagic - 15 Years Ago
Cepstral (and others) have Italian voices so you can buy them directly.  If you are registered with Reallusion as Premium Member, you can get 20% off any Cepstral purchase. I'm not sure, it may only apply if you have CrazyTalk; you will have to check by logging in.

I have contacted support and will loet you know what they say.

BTW I installed the xtranormal State application - I think that is the source of the voices on my computer.

Well they got back to me but there was a misunderstanding.

Thank you for contacting Reallusion.

You can find this special offers at http://www.reallusion.com/creative/creative_cepstral.aspx#special. And if you want to hear its demo, you can visit Cepstral site: http://www.cepstral.com/demos/.

I've replied and pointed out that I was asking about the 'Special license applies' and not the 'Special Offer'.

We'll see what happens.

Did you ever get clarifiycation on the licensing of TTS for use in iClonde movies. I am similarly confused. When I ask NaturalSoft and Cepstral, they tell me that I may NOT use their voices to create derivative works without obtaining a license from them to do so. They say this because of restrictions placed on using the voices by AT&T.  I do not know if Reallusion has obtained this license on the behalf of iClone users to allow them to create derivative works and Cepstral has not been at all helpful in providing that information - their responce seems to be to leave it to Reallusion to answer.

So, can someone with Reallusion please clearly articulate to us, are we allowed to use the TTS feature and voices that come with iClone or CrazyTalk to create derivative works without acquiring any additional licensing from Cepstral, AT&T, etc?  I have a feeling that what Reallusion may be saying is "You can use whatever voices you are licensed to use because Reallusion does not provide those voices - they simply make use of the TTS engines installed on your machine. Since Reallusion has not been clear on this, the statements they do make can make one believe Reallusion is providing all necessary TTS technology and licensing to make derivitive works, but you note they do not every say that.  It's it bit deceptive I think. I really wish they would just make it perfectly clear one way or the other so that no one runs the risk of being sued by AT&T or Cepstral for using voices in a movie.

Hi,

Reallusion doesn't supply the voices themselves so the license agreement is with the company you purchased the voices from. You would need to abide by the terms of the license agreement if you plan on using the voices in a commercial enviroment.

With all purchased text to speech voices you should have a EULA which which will explain the terms of that agreement. Sadly if you unsure of what you can and can't do legally with the voices, you will need to seek clarification from them. This isn't something Reallusion has any control over sadly.

As it seems hard to get a straightforward answer, you may want look into the following alternative, called Acapela-Box. You don't actually buy a license to use the voice (which seems to have a very limited application anyway if you want to make your work public somehow), but instead you create a speech file online, which you can then freely use:

With Acapela-Box create your voice messages with your text and our voices. Use your voice message freely in all your applications : e-learning, video, presentation, answering machine, blog, website, IVR, animation, mp3 player...

I have used them recently for my Classic Heartfelt Moments entry. The advantage is that you don't have to buy a variety of voices, just use what you need. Of course, nothing beats real voice talent, but if your friends all have the wrong accents and you are in a hurry, it's an option.

First, I too am seeking to add voices for use with iClone because Windows 7 Ultimate only comes with one voice (Anna) whereas with XP I had four voices provided by Microsoft free. I asked RL support about this and was directed to the Cepstral site too. But the "special License" thing caused a red flag for me. Mainly because I'm tired of paying for things based on what's implied only to find out later the reason I bought it for disallow such use.

Now, Peter, what you said above is not unreasonable except for one thing. RL should have access to the information asked about the "special license" thing and made available to it's RL customers. Especially since RL by working in conjunction with Cepstral as a partner. Doing otherwise gives a feeling of being in cahoots with a business ripping off RL users if the business hides its EULA which determines whether we would buy the software or not. My experience with software companies that hide such information is they give the customer some runaround vague response while manipulating the conversation to get you to buy the product without actually being told what you want to know. Kind of a used car salesperson approach.

I think it would be beneficial if RL either gets this info and post it here or have a Cepstral representative to join this thread and clarify our concerns.

Reading this with interest as I actually have Speakonia installed on my computer that came with links to many Microsoft voices I added that also appear in iClone.
I use them a lot, there is Mary, Sam, Mike, British English, American, German and others in Male and Female plus robots, as far as I can tell, no restrictions, more of a case of not sounding real enough that they scare viewers of my videos.
Then there is cheap shareware Myriad Melody assistant with it's virtual singer which I MOSTLY use!
Importing the mp3 produced.
It has French, Italian, German and Japanese as well as English voices and you can sample and create your own!
I also use animal sound samples etc for instruments.
Can record stuff and turn it into an instrument!
Others use Vocaloid!
In both cases it is not the voice but what they sing you have to be carefull about.
I often write my own horrifying music or use public domain pdf scores of mostly pre 1921 music that I put into midi format.
Hymns are a good source of music for this.

Once again I owe the kind folks of this forum a huge THANK YOU. wendyluvscatz, I went Googling for Speakonia and swift found this 100% software. Sure enough as you said, I got access to a number of male and female voices, far more than I even knew I apparently had on the system but couldn't access. Sure enough as you said, these voices showed up in iClone so I'm all set. They may not be as smooth and suave as voices you'd get with high end commercial software but for my purposes they are fine. THANK YOU.

Got an answer from support:

It means that you can get good discount if you you buy the voice in Reallusion site.

Of course, you can also buy other voice in Cepstral website.

Thank you very much.
