In CrazyTalk I could import .avi or flash video clips using Props. I cannot do this in CA4 because I do not have the correct codecs.
Has the program changed or do I have to download these codecs? Any help will be appreciated.
I have CA4 pipeline.

I tried various formats and conversion programs and finally found a WMV file that would import and play. Not sure why that one and not other WMV files I tried!

Hi...
Most times you can use AVI or WMV without installing any additional codecs depending on your OS. However, if you want to import formats like MP4 or MOV then you will normally need to install a codec pack like K-Lite.

There are free file converter online to covert the file to the appropriate format. You need to take into consideration the size of the video file imported into CTA4. A large file will have complications in the software such as very slow processing time.

Thank you @coolhewitt24.
I mainly use Any Video and AVS Video conversions. From time to time, Xilisoft. I have found that sometimes one of the conversions will differ to the other. I always keep that in mind. 😉

Hi Rogdodge,
You might consider buying a good video editor. It will save you time and money in the long run. I use my editor for combining and converting files as well as adding special effects. Take care and stay safe.

This is CLEARLY something that Cartoon Animator documentation ought to cover.
I would have been dead in the water without installing additional codecs, and I'm sure other users would be, too.

i dont have any issues with videos as props in CA4. Try installing the K-lite codec as mentioned by peter.

Hi Everyone,
I've never had any trouble with importing video into cartoon animator. I generally stick to the format accepted by the software. I limit installing additional software codecs because it might affect the performance of the software and computer. In the long term, Its quicker to just to convert files to the formats accepted by the software. I am curious if anyone has tried to import 4K files. These files might be too big for the software to handle.

When I import a MOV as a prop it keeps looping. Do you know how I stop that? What controls over the video do I have?

Unfortunately there are limited controls for video in Cartoon Animator.
Videos will loop but you can make use of the Visible/Invisible feature to hide the video from showing.
So for example, if you wanted the video to play and then stop at the end and stay on the last frame of the video, you can do the following.
1. Take a screenshot of the last frame of the video.
2. Load both the video and the static image into your scene as props and position them in exactly the same place at frame 1 of the Timeline.
3. Set the static image as Invisible and the video as Visible from the top toolbar.
4. Now move the Timeline to the end of the videos first playthrough.
5. Now set the video prop to Invisible and the static image prop to Visible.
This will then let the video play through and stop on the last frame.
