I have read where some of you are using FaceGen to generate your heads. What is the workflow involved with that? I have FaceGen but it creates files for use in DAZ. I tried to use a screenshot of a face from FaceGen but the Auto Headshot gives me an error message that no face was found in the image I used?? Maybe I missed something along the way but Charly Rama and Animagic said they used FaceGen and I thought is was part of the work flow to use in HeadShot. TS

Well I think I know why I am having issues. I have FaceGen Artist not FaceGen Modeler.

As I was called out...:D
I haven't tried FaceGen with HeadShot, which should work. I do have the plugin for DAZ as well and I have used that to import DAZ figures with FaceGen heads. This would now be easier of course with Transformer.
Even longer ago I have use FaceGen face images as a basis the create heads with CrazyTalk.

WITH the Facegen modeller, you can save out jpgs of your heads. You have to have the complete head and not the forehead cut off. I cant remember at the moment, but there was one head creation tool i used that caused errors in headshot because i believe it didnt give the complete head in the output.

Hey Animagic, :P I called you out because I was searching for info and you were talking about using it. And so was Charly Rama. Then I tried mine but it is the FaceGen Artist and that is basically the plugin for DAZ. I thought maybe you guys were using the image, or should I say "face" produced and the importing it into HeadShot. I like having a lot of options. Right now I was working on a head that Headshop was not giving me the correct head shape and after fixing that it still didn't look the way I wanted it. Thanks for the reply and the info. TS

Hey Larry, That is what I found out. I was just making sure I wasn't missing out on a great tip or trick. With the FaceGen Artist it just exports the face without the whole head shape. That was my issue. With the modeller it does the whole head. Thanks for the reply and info. And you are forgiven on the double post. :D TS

OK, for one image I tried it actually worked. I think the problem is indeed that the face image is only partial, so forehead and ears are missing.
You could try to recolor the black background to something closer to the skin color, or have an overlay where the area around the skin is long hair:

In Head Shot you would then mask out the hair.

Animagic, Cool. I thought about adding the top of another head in a graphics editor but didn't try it. I'll bet that would work as you have shown that it does indeed. The one I tried I originally cut the head out of the black background and put it on a white background. I'll try again with the black and the with a cut and paste top skull. Thanks for testing that and reporting back the results. TS

I played some more and found that you can easily reshape the head in the viewport just by dragging.
Ctrl + Left Mouse Click lets you drag symmetrically; Ctrl + Right Mouse Click drags a specific area only.
I used it to stretch out the forehead and do some widening:

Yes, I found that out too with the Activate Sculpt Morph selected, but only after the creation has taken place. Not before. So I end up with that black junk on the forehead to clean up. But, at least I am getting the images to work. Just have to keep playing around with the editing of the "before" image. I also realized that it works best if you leave some border on either side and top and bottom of the image when you grab it. Initially I thought I was being helpful by using the lasso tool in my graphics editor and pasting the cut face into a tighter fitting box. I will keep at it... Thanks
edit: Oh, you mean stretching the image in the FaceGen view port. Got it. :)

Old topic, I know... But I use facegen on Genesis 2 and then export it in DAZ studio as an FBX file and load it into Character Creator 4 and let the program do all the magic 😊
