This is day 3 of me battling the same problem and I'm getting to the conclusion that this may not be me doing something wrong but maybe there is something wrong with the Unreal Live Link.
Look at the image.
I've now tried 2 different helmets, 3 different textures.
I've tried to send the helmet and visor as part of the Avatar and I've tried to send the helmet and visor as props linked to the avatar.  All of them had problems.
The normals are messed up and the entire textures of the head looks horrible too.  Look at the face in UE.  It looks the same with the HQ shader.

did you rebuild your light/map?
Can you show me pictures of the helm shaders , are there displacements ?
The visor shader too!

And please tick your Character in your content/RLContent folder (pink line) and then tick the CCSetup above in the menu , choose HQ and let it work.

Hi Bassline.
Thank you for replying!!  I've attached another image.  The shade is set to HQ and the lighting was rebuilt.  I've been battalion this all weekend.  This is a completely new helmet now because for the past two days I had issues with another helmet.  Initially the first helmet texture looked "painterly" for the lack of a better word and the visor was not OK.  So I then detached the helmet and visor from the character and sent them as props.  The visor was OK but the helmet arrived with flipped normals.  I tried both the texture that came with it and my own texture.  Same issue.  I could not find a way to flip the normals inside UE, so I decided to try it with another helmet.  This helmet is a download but I put the texture on in 3D coat.

Can you send me the Character , so I can take a look whats going on there.... better send me the IClone file only.

Hi Bassline,
One thing I just noticed is this: that when I try to switch the pink content to HQ I get this message:
Auto-setup is not support for this version of CC / iClone and some issues may occur as a result. Please update to the appropriate version.
I had installed them by getting them from iClone - Plug in - Get tool for Unreal
I also checked my latest download which was 7/25.  Supposedly the last update was 7/23.
Now I downloaded it again and dragged the two folders over directly from the download into the folder when opening UE and right clicking on the file to Open in Explorer.
There is a change now but what's odd is that I still do get that same warning message when I try to switch the pink content to HQ.

and don't forget , the newest CC_Shader Folder have to be in your Project/Content Folder !!

I have the same version.  1.2.1913.1

So now I went exactly by the book and again re-installed the plug ins again.
About an hour ago I dragged the folders into the UE file and got this:

Now this above is the best result I got all weekend but it's still not very good.  So just to be safe I went 100% by the book.  I downloaded the plug ins again.  I deleted everything from the CC Shaders folder and then deleted the RL content folder.  And then installed the brand spanking new plugins again and built the lighting.
Now I am back to flipped normals on the helmet and the spooky eyes character.  When I click the pink content and select HQ I don't get an error but UE crashes about 30 seconds later.
Here is a picture of how the helmet arrives now (note this is the helmet version A) I tried yesterday and the day before.

I'm now going to try to Live Link the character into a brand spanking new UE project to see if it is some legacy file that may be responsible.

That's strange....for testing , can you please import the Character via FBX with HQ Shaders and this settings here :

I had this too , the problem was a material !!!!  Maybe try without the helmed only for testing.
Maybe it's the visor because of the translucent shader.

Hi,
I got this now in a brand new UE project.  No crash, no flipped normals.
The result is better.  There is still something weird going on with the visor.  I'm thinking it's because it is see through but the texture is not two sided.  Is there a way to make it 2 sided in iClone or UE?  The helmet has also lost its smoothing in UE.

Here :

Maybe try to adjust the Opacity ... or change the blend mode from masked to translucency.
Set the Tessellation of the helmed to 1 for more smoothness.

I just tried to Live link the character into the right project file without the helmet.  The result is good.  I'll now try and bring the helmet in by itself and will let you know what happens as soon as it's imported.

Hi Bassline,
Definitely some progress!  I live linked the character and the props one after the other instead of all together and the result is way better.
Still an issue is that the smoothing is gone from the helmet.  Is there a way to do this in UE?  I did do the smoothing in CC after I imported it there and it was also OK in iClone but somehow that seems to have been lost in the transfer.
The visor still has the problem.  I like the dimples in the glass, they are on purpose but I think the issue is how these dimples show up through the glass on the inside.  I did switch the blend mode and it was set to 2 sided but it made no difference.  I can try to texture it differently without dimples and see if that fixes the issue.  Also I want to say THANK YOU for all your help!!!  I'll call it a day for today and continue tomorrow morning.  Please let me know if you know how to do the smoothing or if you have more ideas for the glass.  Again THANK YOU!!!!!

The CC3 subdivide or tessellation will not be exported by CC3 , you have to activate tessellation in UE4 for your material.

Tutorial about Tessellation :



For your Visor , the easiest way would be to take ready made glass material.
In the material editor tick on your Visor material and do a search for glass , you can change the color like you want.
If you don't have any glass shaders ,  download free once from the epic store.
It is always a good idea to have a bunch of ready made materials downloaded from the epic store in your projects  ;-)

@Cinemyscope - the difference you are seeing has a lot to do with the lighting being used in UE4, it is blowing out your scene.  In other words, too strong.  You are probably using the default Exposure and lighting of the scene, right?
