Daz G3 and G8 characters are compatible for converting to CC3 Base+ characters. When converting to CC3 Base+ characters via Transformer, the normal baking and skin rigging results will be largely enhanced.

There are other two Transformer enhancements which benefit both CC3 Base or CC3 Base+ Character:
  1. Characters will be automatically assigned with Digital Human Shaders after Transformer in version 3.3.
  2. A new workflow makes it easier to source baked normals from Daz high resolution characters.

New features include:

If you have SkinGen Premium Plug-in, you can directly bring in Daz3D’s G3, G8 skin content like makeup, tattoo to Character Creator, without going through CC Transformer’s long character transfer process. You can only choose the required texture area, it greatly saves the texture conversion time. Know more about SkinGen Premium Plug-in.

Apply A-Pose DUF for CC3+ Transformer

The CC3 Base+ Characters have advanced topology and optimized bone orientation. In version 3.3, only DAZ G3 and G8 characters are compatible for converting to CC3 Base+ characters.

CC3 Base+ characters assigned with A pose for easier clothes modifications.
You can find the file in the path below after you have installed Character Creator 3 into the default path.

*Transformer for CC3 Character remains the same T-Pose DUF files.

Normal Baking Enhancement for CC3 Base+ (No Seams)

Using the Advanced Conversion of Transformer or generational conversion such as Game Base and CC1 to CC3, or CC1 and CC3 to CC3+, usually includes a lot of texture baking in the process. Before version 3.3, problems will usually occur on the seams of the normal map. This problem gets worse as the UV layout directions between the two meshes deviate more and more. In version 3.3, CC is able to detect the mesh normals direction and mix the data with the normal map to create a seamless transition across UV seams.

*Note: the new normal baking process will factor in more mesh data, therefore, using Convert Base and Transformer will usually extend the time of calculation to three times the original wait time. You can take a look at the estimated wait time at the bottom of this post.

Before version 3.3 (Transformer: Daz G8 Male)

Viewing the model from the font, the normal map seams may not be apparent. However, seam artifacts usually occur around the borders of the UV islands (follow the red arrows):

When we view the same model from a different angle (top-down), it becomes apparent that the normals possess very obvious seams as a result of limitations in the normal map baking process.

Version 3.3 (Transformer Daz G8 Male)

No normal seams are apparent when viewing the mesh from the front.

Again, viewing from the top, there are no apparent normal seams either.

Estimated Time of Processing the Transformer

Take this Daz G8 Male Character for example.
  • Transformer to CC3 Base (CC v3.22): Diffuse + Normal Map = 3 min 18.5 sec  (with normal seams)
  • Transformer to CC3 Base+ (CC v3.3): Diffuse + Normal Map = 9 min 33.25 sec (without normal seams)

Settings:
- The original texture resources are 4K resolution.
- Transformer >  [Basic] + 2K Texture Baking + Assigned Normal Map

Skin Rigging Enhancement - Transformer Results for CC3 Base+

CC3 Base+ uses the A pose for binding to the mesh to the skeleton. This method has vastly improved on the rotations for the shoulders and the armpit areas. The illustrations below show the differences between CC3 Base and CC3 Base+ when using the Transformer tool. *For now, only G3 and G8 Male and Female characters support CC3 Base+.

Baking Normal from Daz High Res Character Sources

On Daz online store, you can find characters with HD morph, which have more detailing than the average character, with the titles clearing indicate that they are in high definition.
However, the details can not be completely implemented with Transformer. This has changed with version 3.3, where the workflow has been optimized to make a solution possible. Please check the Online Manual for details.

This is the original Daz HD Character in Daz Studio.

After converting to CC3 Base+ via Transformer, you will find it loses normal details.

Now the exquisite details have been brought back with the help of texture baking.
