Hello,
I am considering going with UE4 and livelink. I see lots of tutorials on shipping CC characters to UE4 via live link. But I have entire scenes built in iClone 7 and I want to send them to UE4, as well as my animated characters to render. Is this possible? If so, are there any tutorials?
Thanks,
Nathan

That is almost possible with iclone 7.8 but I doubt it would be possible to transfer the whole scene.

Okay. Thanks for responding. I suppose, I'll just experiment and see what I can ship over with the present version.

The current version of the live link only allows you to send Characters, Camera and Lights. So no props or any other types of meshes. The new version apparently will allow props to be linked as well... so like Oisilener1982 was saying it will be unlikely that you could send the whole scene even in the new version of iClone, which is due to be released this month. I think some of us are struggling to make the animations work flawlessly. This link shows amazing potential and the promo videos really sell how easy and seamless the process can be but I still I feel the "early adopter" blues ... Hopefully things will work better in this updated iClone

The main problem with live link is the fps drop if there are 3 or 4 characters. I hope they found a way to improve fps in iclone 7.8

The other option you have is to export an FBX out with the animation baked and import that in Unreal. I did a quick test of that last week and it worked nicely.

@bernierao,
I agree . Really impressed with the product, although not flawless. Props linking is a step forward. We’ll see how many props can be shipped.

@oisilener1982, wow, FPS drop randomly or by fixed number?

amckenzie,
Glad to learn your tests were positive. My scenes are basically stages, except for the few with vehicles. So the FBX exports shouldn’t be a problem. Do you know whether UE4 can render with an alpha channel for background transparency?

Hi Nathan, yeah the mapping came through with transparencies fine, so a straight FBX export out of Iclone will work. Just have to wait a while for the shaders to all compile if there are a large number of textures in the scene. I'm still playing with whether I want to render with raytracing in Unreal or use Octane.
regards
Andrew

Andrew,
Would be interested to see a sample of your retracing results. Nathan

Andrew would love to see these samples as well since I am interested to see the Octane vs Ray Tracing differences.
