proble removing bones

Good Morning everyone,
I am totally new to the software, so maybe mine is a stupid question... sorry about that.
I would like to know how to remove a bone from a template character. I drag it on my scene and go to composer, then I select the Bone Editor but then I have the remove button always greyed-out! I can select bones, connect, duplicate... but can't insert or remove them.
Is there something I am missing or it simply can't be done?

For what I know, certain bone cannot be removed. 
Just leave it if there is no sprite attached to it.
I created a mermaid without using the Right Thigh, Right Shank, Right Foot etc .. bones.
It still works.
