So if it has not become apparent by now, almost all of my personal work is inspired by things I grew up on and feel a certain nostalgic connection to. This project I have in the works is no exception. Like so many others from my age group, I grew up a huge nerd, who often spent countless weekends in a mate's basement, locked in the throws of a seemingly endless D & D campaign. It should be no surprise that when the game Gauntlet came out in the arcades, that most of my disposable kid income got dumped into that game, no matter how much we knew for a fact that it was virtually unbeatable. As such, I've always wanted to do an animated project based in those worlds. Easy enough premise, a Barbarian/Warrior, a Valkyrie, a Thief/Elf and a Wizard, trapped in a dungeon maze, pitted against an endless barrage of enemies. This is obviously a work in progress, which is being folded into a massive project I am working on for the year, so the progress that I have been making in Unreal Engine will be posted later. In the interim, here are the character designs rendered in CC3, Iray Render.
I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy out there. Be Well!

Being a basic Icloner with no access to the other add-on programs, I have to ask: Do you make all of this armor and clothing from scratch? It's fine looking armor but, what do you use to pattern it after? Great work. pete

Thanks Pete!
The armor was actually achieved through a combination of kitbashing multiple assets from Daz Studio, some from the Reallusion Paladin and Darksider asset packs, and a few pieces I made custom in Blender, then a lot of custom textures and tweaks done in Photoshop, and adding custom Normal, Roughness and Metallic maps to get better results. Believe it or not, you do actually have access to a lot of the programs I use since both Daz Studio and Blender are free, although you have to purchase a lot of the assets out there. Truthfully I model almost all of my final animated figures and assets custom in Zbrush, but I like to do all of my pre-visualization like this using CC3 and iClone. It helps me work out any potential bugs in advance.

Thanks for the love everybody! It is greatly appreciated.
Here are a few rough and I mean really rough, motion previz tests I did in both iClone 7 and Unreal Engine 4. I didn't do any of the skin weighting on the clothes or hair, no tweaking of the skin textures, literally nothing. I just wanted to test some motion ideas out and see if I could identify potential issues so I could correct them at an early stage. That being said...

Nice characters. I could imagine this took some time.

Actually, my I've developed a really solid workflow for working with Daz Studio and CC3 in concert, so I develop concepts relatively quickly... That being said, the final designs done entirely in Zbrush however... yeah... those take me FOREVER, lol.

Really nice!
Is your project a game, or are you making a movie?

I've been working on a lengthy animated project for about a year or so, which is to be comprised of several vignettes, each a different genre, animation style, tone, etc.. Imagine something like the old film "Heavy Metal" from back in the day, or "Love Death and Robots" now. These are examples from one of the stories. I have been posting the art direction from each portion of the full project over the last several months, with just a few more to go and a few more that I am saving to keep a little bit of mystery.
