hello, i am new to crazy talk. i just discovered it the other day. i download the demo and have been messing around with it. i wanted to know for a causal user that wants to create cool animated photos is the ct5 standard version ok to use. i have looked at the feature matrix. but could you explain at least a little of what features in the standard i wont be getting. (ex, can i move eyes, mouth, facial expression, etc. or will the photo be very static in appearance.)

i understand about the sfx part(ballons, text, etc). i wanted more info on the editing functions i will not get. the breif description on the feature matrix was is very short

Not sure if you've reviewed the Side-By-Side comparison Matrix, but if you like the trial version, the Pro version is the way to go.

Eventually you'll want to do something that the Standard version doesn't allow. The main thing is the edit on the timeline to refine your animation.

These are not available in the Standard, and are essential and available in the Pro Version if you want to get it just right:

Total linear animation track control featuring tools for professional animation output

Custom facial expression editing tools featuring slider controls over each facial muscle

Expression, special effects, head, shoulder and viseme (mouth shape) tracks, expressiveness strength control

Quick editing, users can group select, copy and paste, shift animation key location, strength directly from the timeline

Special effects overlay controls and editing tools

Advanced fine- tuning: double click animation tracks on the Timeline editor to evoke track feature menu boxes and adjust the parameters

Import audio file for background music

Plus +++ the Puppet Control is limited in the Standard and it is one stellar enhancement over and above the previous CT4 version. The Main function is Listed as "Solo feature control panel for precise puppet performance", but is the only way to reach beyond the stock emotions supplied and really create your own facial expressions that give the image lifelike .

i did read the matrix. as i said in my post, i was looking for a little more detail of those editing functions that are not in the standard version.

i just wanted to know if i will have some facial expression. i know i wont have total control but will i have enough to play around with things. i am a first timer for this program and was looking to does some animated photos but on a low level for fun. something for your tube, etc.

dont get my worng the demo is awesome but at this moment (and living in michigans economy at the moment) i can only afford the standard version. but still wanted to have some fun with it.

Hi Todd,

You will certainly be able to create fully animated characters with Crazytalk standard including eyes, mouth etc. There are limitations on some features but for a newcomer you will still have amazing flexibility in your creations and can always upgrade to Pro at a later date for a discounted price should you wish to.

The main limitations can be broken down to the following;

One area you will be limited in will be SFX. You will not be able to use text bubbles in your projects nor will you be able to switch effects from foreground to background.

You will also be missing the fine tuning of the timeline which enables even more realistic control over every aspect of your talking character. This may not be so important for someone new to Crazytalk or the casual user but over time you may wish for greater control if you wish to develop more complex animations.

Puppeteering is a major new addition to Crazytalk 5 and you will be glad to hear you still have access to Puppeteering without the Pro version, but you will not have Solo Feature control. This means you will not be able to choose individual parts of the face to animate with Puppeteering but you will still be able to control the overall facial features using pre-set selections.

Finally when it comes to outputting your creations the standard version of Crazytalk doesn't allow HD output. You will still be able to output DVD quality videos but not HD. This shouldn't really be a problem unless HD is essential to you.

i thank you for your help. you explained things well. i did purchase the standard version. i will start to work with it tonight. (need to cut the grass!)(damn nice weather)

i did find something flustrating though. i went to order some of the add on packs and the ordering process is all messed up. you can not add to the cart and continue shopping. it takes you to the e-commerce site the you guys use i guess. but the only way you can order is one and a time i guess. so i didnt ordering anything. if that gets fixed i would order some stuff. but i dont want to order one at a time. unless im missing something there.

Hi Todd,

You may have missed it (it's easily done) but there is a option on the shopping cart that allows further items to be added before checkout. If you look at the image below it is highlighted in red.

Once back in the store just choose other items and click the buy button and so on.

That is strange. The Continue Shopping button should take you back to the last product you were viewing. That is what happens for me with IE7. Are you using a different browser?

Do you have your browser security settings set very high or are you blocking cookies? It seems that you are not retaining the session settings when you access the store. You should be able to go back to the store in any way you like, and the contents of your cart will be retained during the same session. If you know how you could check your security settings. The default settings should enable purchases to be made and retain a good level of security.

Reallusion store orders are handled by Element 5 (Digital River). You could try contacting them and asking why this is happening. They may be able to offer some help on this.

Although it would be pain to do so I do believe you could order packs one at a time in the meantime if you need some urgently.

Hello Todd.

I too was (and still am) confused about the differences between the standard and Pro versions. I ended up purchasing the standard version and was very disappointed. Don't get me wrong, the software is still amazing, but after using the pro version for the trial, the standard version doesn't come close when it comes to the expressiveness of the characters. There are just too many confusing things about the standard version of which I will post elsewhere so as not to change the subject. Get the Pro Version if you can afford it. Unfortunately, I cannot.
