As the subject line reads.  I can't believe I did that. :pinch:  Does anyone know how to recover deleted files or know where they are placed.  I do have Recuva but I don't know where to point the search.  Or do I have to painfully search my entire HD?

I believe items are actually deleted. They should really be sent to the Recycle Bin. Hopefully you can use something like Recuva.

I have a daily backup program, so usually I can recover some of my work.

Thanks @animagic for getting back to me.  That's such a bummer that files can go completely "poof" just like that.  Luckily most of my files were from Daz so back to the transformer I go!!:w00t:  I hope Reallusion could make some sort of way to send files to the recycle bin for retrieval in case of mistakes like mine.

yeah I learnt long ago if you delete anything in the iClone library it's gone forever
unless you have a backup or use Recuva

@wendyluvscatz  This was my first time doing so and hopefully the last.  I do have Recuva and will probably do a deep scan of my C drive while I sleep just to give me peace of mind.  And I WILL BACK UP my RL file starting now! :D

I use AOMEI Backupper and have it make daily backups. It is best to have some form of scheduled task, so you won't forget...

That software sounds very useful, in general. Have you had success with it for other situations in general? How deep does this go in terms of recovering?
By animagic - 5 Years Ago
@dante: I use it only for backing up various contents. I have not used it for system restore, only to get individual files. BTW, I use an external drive for this, so it's separated. Some people do incremental backups so they can go back in time, but I don't do that.

I have another software called Macrium Reflect that I have used to make system drive images (which reminds me that I should do that again).

Oh ok I see. Yeah my method is that I used to have a daily backup (of my Reallusion custom folder, and some other personal folders) to a separate internal drive (which for some reason no longer triggers), but also a weekly backup to a cloud drive. I know a week is a long time, but I guess I'm banking on nothing ever happening, and in the event it does, well I won't lose absolutely everything.

Dont feel bad, I did the same thing a few months ago and lost over 60 of my best project files, I am still trying to get over it....lol sucks

I find that this happens when inadvertently meaning to delete a scene listed item.
If you hit delete while a custom folder accidentally is also highlighted, you may delete the custom folder.
I found the only recovery is to go to a project where you were using the asset and then export it out of that project.

You can just straight copy the items you wish to back up to another windows folder also as a redundancy

there's a software called Recuva - distributed by the same guys that make Ccleaner -  chances are the basic undelete may not see these files -  but files are never really deleted ..only overwritten over time.   Recuva goes to those hidden areas and if the file hasn't yet been overwritten, you may be able to recover it that way....this is also how "permanently deleting" files work,  nothing is actually erased,  simply overwritten with empty data sets.

I just saw myself delete a custom object the other day because it was highlighted when I thought I was deleting something from the scene.  Then I realized that's probably why I'm always missing things I'm sure I've saved within iclone.
It's way to easy to do.
Especially when you're just trying to save something to your library and then delete it from the scene.

I did use Recuva with no results.  However I did find files that I purposely deleted long ago so that was strange.:ermm::doze:

So basically, all this would be resolved if Reallusion made it so deleted items went to the deleted items folder first, instead of permanently deleting them. I wonder if there has ever been a feedback tracker submitted on this.

All I could find in FT was a request for a popup (which was implemented) and a comment a from a user to use the Recycle Bin. So it seems a FT entry is in order.

Yeah, this is a UI interface matter, and a pretty important customer service one actually. It is easy to make mistakes and to give the user a redundancy is good practice.

FYI, I've had the same problem of accidentally deleting files, I've used several programs but found EASEUS the most powerful and reliable, I've used it to recover other people's system too.. EASEUS  its so effective that it will recover files deleted years before, and yes, it does recover iclone files!

I made this same mistake several months ago and lost like 30 really polished character models in the process. The upside is that the base characters were all FBX Transformer imports chreated in other programs, so I had the ability to go back, re-import and redo each character. Now while that sounds tedious and horrible, which technically it was, being forced to go back and redo each character forced me to not only get better at learning the ins and outs of the program, but also gave me an opportunity to really polish the original concepts, as you notice small details you may miss the first time you create something. What you lose in time, you gain in creative inspiration.

So you got that goin' for ya'... which is nice... :D
