I have an item (a rope) which i've made soft cloth 7. in the scene, ive got two posts. to rope is tethered between the two. it needs to move in the wind and when one or both posts move, the rope moves accordingly as it's teathred between the two posts, like a washing line. how would i achive this in iclone 7.7? i assume i use weight maps but how?

If I'm understanding you right, I think you want pinning. In the weight map, a black dot or spot for each end where you've attached them to the posts. If you look in premade softcloth tools, that's how they achieve flags and curtains. Pure black locks the item in place, with pure white everywhere else on the rope. The examples/samples are in Prop>Physics Props>Cloth Template_Grey. If you load onehttps://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/f55e1bf0-1fd4-4062-8dd3-7bac.png of those, then look at it's weight maps, I think you'll see what I mean. I used Flag 1 for the screenshot.

Something like this?

yes, but both posts should be seperate objects

Both Poles are separate objects, though hand animated, no physics.
So, not really an answer on "tethering two items of soft cloth"...
Here is a little "how to do":

What i did:

Props --> Physics Props --> Softcloth Props --> Curtain

Delete one of the curtains…

Delete Pick 2 & 3

Remove Animation of Pick 1

Make both “Curtains”dummy

Select"major" Curtain, scale till it looks like a rope…

Made Poles out of Cylinder…

Detach Pick 1 & 4 and link each to a pole

Animate Poles as desired

Make Picks dummy…

In the “how to do”it’s done roughly, do it more accurate.

In the final project, the “Cloth” has an optimized opacity map and a "rope" diffuse map.

sorry for the delay. i tried it but the rope collapsed into like a ribbon shape. how would it stay looking like a rope? also how would you attach to a moving ceature such as the horse, so it kan be walked as if on a lead?
