I was interested to see what video editing software users are using.If you could reply and tell me what you use and why....that would be great.

I use Pinnacle Studio.
Why? It's the s/w I started with eons ago, I made friends on the user forum there, and I've never had a compelling reason to change. The price seems reasonable and it does everything I need (and more).

PowerDirector 18 & Hitfilm & Olive but I mostly use PD 18 cause so easy and powerful enough for me.

AVID Media Composer
It has its flaws, but you can stack effect on effect without compromising the other layers and that's a very good thing.

I've also been using Avid MC for the past 10 years and don't regret it. Steep learning curve, and not cheap, but there is a "lite" version available for free.

I remember using Pinacle editing software many moons ago and found it very intuitive and cleverly designed. Part of the package included an automated music creation tool which stitched your choice track together to your desired 'length'. Clever stuff. These days I use Vegas which I find an intuitive layer based editor, and one I keep returning to. I used Pemiere Pro way back, and found it an impressive layer based editor but I think they charge an ongoing subsciption pricing these days (which I don't like). DaVinci Resolve have a free version of their software which excels in color grading - if I were starting out fresh at a younger age I'd probably go with Resolve personally .....

At work: 100% After Effects
At home: Final Cut Pro
For the money: Wondershare Filmora is decent but basic
If I had to buy my own: Hitfilm Pro
They can all do the job. Keep an eye out there will be lots of Black Friday deals on the ulead/pinnacle/magix/hitfilm products.
Yes DaVinci is free, but the curve is steep and long.

I use the free version of Davinci resolve but I will buy the paid version soon. I used Hitfilm Pro for a while but I wasn't using it enough to justify paying $300 / year for the upgrade version (paid 3 upgrade already) but they have a free version too.
There are many great options so the best is to choose one that fits your needs.

I started with Premiere Pro but it kept hanging for some reason. After getting frustrated a few times I went with DaVinci Resolve 15. Great software and I plan to stay with DaVinci Resolve.

Remember the best way to upgrade to the paid version of DaVinci it to get a black magic pocket cinema 4 k camera! It comes free with it!

Premiere Pro + After Effects + Audition.
If I was only working with animation, then I might use something else. I get given a lot of live action footage to edit and Premiere Pro is the only tool I've used that just works no matter what format you throw it at. The occasional glitch (and in my own experience they've been rare) is offset by the productivity gains.
When I was on a Mac I had some stability problems with Adobe, but since shifting 100% to Windows I barely ever have an issue.
