OK, iIclone Avatar builder is launched and i think building an avatar online is fun and interesting concept, but...i still don´t get it and i would like someone to enlighten me. I spend a lot of money buying iclone and iclone packs because besides of the animation...iclone let me build my avatars with my own face and all that. Now i have a website were i have to spend my money (and a lot...2000 direct acess points is expensive) to...BUILD AN AVATAR? Is the avatars made with iclone Gevolver better than the ones made inside iclone? If so, why?...iclone is expensive we should have these tools inside the program.
Why would i spend my money building avatars online if i can do them in iclone? I could see some interest if people could build the avatars for use somewhere else, but these avatars can only be opened inside iclone 4...so why? What´s the advantage? I may be totally wrong and there is probably advantages and uses for this so please someone correct me. Thanks.

Hi, You raise a really good point. Why? I have no idea :D I think that the options on the G-Evolver site gives more flexibility to your avatars and allows more custom creations. I'm sure mainly everything you can do on the G-Evolver site can be done in iClone Pro. However you can choose two different face or body types and morph them to produce something unique and different. Also we have a limited number of body and face types that come with iClone Pro, so I suppose G-Evolver gives us more choice? But I think Reallusion wants to give everybody different options. I can create something in iClone Pro as good and save myself £12 to £14 ($20), but I'm going to give it one try and see what I get. Personally I would have preferred a pack with all the options added into iClone Pro with a one off payment of say £30 ($50). Just my thoughts. Cape!

thanks for your opinion, Capemedia. I just think that if this site permits more flexible charcters and better options they should be on iclone itself. I will give it a try also because i want to know what´s the end result but, to be honest, i´m not to excited and i feel a bit disapointed at reallusion because they should be working on giving us the best tool inside iclone and not developing outside tools that do what it already can be done...or should be . Pop video 2.0 will be a great app and exchange 4 should be also great because they complement iclone. gevolver? Can´t understand it, really. Only see one reason for it: More income to reallusion. Sorry, not trying to offend anyone, just a modest opinion.

Hm that's somewhat disconforting a little.
See the point of Evolver characters is that they're suppose to be universal, so for example, I could make a character and port it out toWild Pockeets, Blender, Ogre, FriendHangOut, and many other on and offline media and virtual worlds. I was thinking the iClone one was going to be like this too where I could go in my actual evolver account, make a character, and then port it to iClone, but also to anywhere else, so I could have my character in iCLone and also have it in other places... but it appears that I have to have a seperate account and my evolver character I make for iClone can't be used anywhere else... Hmmm.
Also, the evolver characters can have a much higher poly and bone count, but I think it goes down in iClone I think. Justa guess.

Looks a good concept, maybe over time things will get better, and more export options and modeling tools will be added. It's still really early days yet. But it sure is something to keep an eye on.

I won't be able to get around to it soon, but can someone try to make a kid character to see what happens? Kid characters made using iClone body-morphing usually have adult body features, such as chest musle for boys and breasts for girls, which are not desirable. iClone is not a modeling app. If RL partners with Evolver to provide a service that means it must be doing body-morphing better than iClone currently does.

Dear users, About avatar size issue, Evolver uses morph to change the shape of the body. Whereas that iClone uses bone system to enlarge and size down the body parts. G-Evolver character restores to normal body weight when G-Evolver imports into iClone. Then you can use iClone's Adjust Body Proportion to resize the character. You can find the information above in Evolver online help: http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/help/Evolver/index.htm#Adjust_Body_Proportion

is it me or does the current options for Gevolver not really offer that much beyond getting unique faces - for 2000 points, that seems an expensive proposition
the bodies, costumes it comes with are not impressive, can easily get those and much better with existing clone cloth - now once they have unique bodies, clothing shapes, it might make it worth the 2000 points
or am i missing the value proposition here?

My personal experience is the bodies morphs don’t copy over into Iclone especially if you want extreme like obese.... The faces though give you more choice than Iclone especially the extreme ones like old men.... and using your own photos to create characters is easier and better than (MY Experience) Iclone

No, you just knocked one of the dials on your teleporter and now you have molecular smear in your starship. Cleanup on Aisle 4!

Like Gabe (akn) I felt that the bodies we have are fine and that to me the GEvolver option was for me a head creation although if you go into face animation and use the puppet you can also create some unusual face features. I suppose it is early days yet only time will tell if GEvolver is a useful option.

Darwin Dimensions, Inc. (aka GEvolver) has another Evolver website (apparently still in beta but open to the public) with additional features and freebie services. I have accounts on both sites. The accounts do not appear to be linked between the GEvolver and Evolver beta site. You can render free videos and images of the avatars you create which are emailed directly to you (nice for testing) and transport your avatars to social networking sites or sell them on their Marketplace.

Yeah, I've mentioned this as well.
You can have your character and export it as FBX and everything and it'll look exactly like the character including clothes (not just painted on clothes) and stuff. But it costs 40 dollars, and you thought 20 dollars was a lot.
There are some places that you can port it too for free though.
I do wish the accounts were linked though.
You can also get there via www.evolver.com as well.

Hi there, Just browsing around I found out about this iClone Avatar Builder thing... it goes a little on the opposite side of what I would expect of the forthcoming iClone versions. I was hoping to see some improvement in the way you could customize the characters, some more morphing, and it would be ok. Then some improvements in the rendering, motion and we are almost there. Plus the price is very high for the output I have seen here. Best regards ML

To be honest I do like the Gevolver site, but if this is RLs solution to character creation ather than developing the tools with in Iclone, then it needs to be much cheaper as Quidium 3 pro is £400 and I can create lowpoly character in that, then use the new 3D exchange to bring them into Iclone. Yes its expensive but in the long run would beat paying nearly £20 per avatar. Its just a matter of maths.
Is anyone else using the gevolver site... as I would like to see what characters people are creating with this site:D

I wasted 2000 points on an avatar. The system isn't too bad, but the painted on textures was just a complete waste of time in evolver. If I'd known that I would have left the default clothes and just got the head. Lesson learned there!
Then again, those 2000 points had been sitting in my account for a long time - unused. So no skin off my back.
However, this: http://www.makehuman.org/
is why we should at least have an iclone plugin for Blender. Alas, that's a pipedream?

Like you I had the points sitting so gave it a try. The tank top is distorted in the sleeves, nothing like the picture inside Evolver. I thought this would be a cool hair for an accessory, but it seems it is part of the texture, it isn't something I can use on another character. The shoes I can save, but I was surprised at the female shoes as being "flats" only - no other options, even with the dresses. While this is an interesting character, not sure I would spend what equates to $20 again for normal day to day characters. Maybe for a really odd looking character or creature. ADDED - I was able to add Violet high heels to replace the flats. This is good. And I could add other hair over top of this hair which gave her a different look.

This is normally most noticeable around the waist area but sometimes affects straps, collars etc. Some of the short hairstyles are part of the body mesh but the longer styles are separate meshes and can be saved as Accessories. You can then add these to your other iClone avatars if you wish. I totally agree with you about the shoes which are not very good and the weakest part of the GEvolver models in my opinion. As you have already found out, you can add standard G3 shoes which makes all the difference. Thanks for the feedback. All the feedback received will be looked into and I'm sure these areas will be improved over time. :)

Hm there seem to be numerous reports of the character deforming incorrectly when ported to iClone... Gee...
If this is the case, I think I'd rather just spend the extra 20 on the actual site and get the character in multiple formats with all the clothing and things as seperate pieces so then I could just import it (when 3DX 4 comes out) as a external model... but meh... 40 dollars is even more than 20.
Darn Quidam, why must you cost SO DARN MUCH!!!
...or...
I wish iClone had a slightly easier character creator. (I mean for morphs and things) because as I said, not all that good at character design and my characters either eend up looking too fat or too thin or proportionatly incorrect or some other dumb thing. This is why I thought this would be great. (The Gevolver thing I mean.) but if it deforms the shape when you get it to iClone, it kind of kills the purpose because I'd have to do it over again myself... argh...
Sorry for all the whining and complaining, just pointing out why I'm becoming skeptical of this.
