Director's mode

Director's mode is not something I often use. I usually create most of my story though the editor's mode. I wanted to use the director's mode recently and the character would not move ( I pressed the W key with a Dylan Character) at all. I have used director's mode in the past . So I am familiar with how to operate it.

Also...

When I attempted to use the right click menu to perform an action an error comes up which says "Iclone command error adding "perform" comand - The same error comes up with a the right click menu "move" command as well.

F.Y.I.

I have been to the forum, checkedthe help menu, checked Iclone common questions to problems and etc...nothing listed in any of these areas relating to a similar problem.

It's not a major concern of mind - but if it is supposed to work - I would like to have it work.

Any response would be appreciated - Thank-you.

It sounds like something is glitched with the character/avatar. Add a different avatar to the scene, as a test, and see if that new avatar works properly.

If not, save your non-working Dylan avatar as a custom model. Then, start up a blank scene, put that avatar in it and see if director mode will work.

This will narrow down where the problem is - just the one avatar, the scene, or all avatars in any scene.

Thank-you so much gnasche for taking the time to answer my question. After applying your thoughts - I first put in the animme man character and it worked -  I was so Happy but then.... I then individually tried Benny, Trey, the Dragon and next the Aribian horse.....all of which would not move in the director's mode -or  using any of hot keys and lastly for all when I attempted to use a right click menu anything used an error would come up....again the director's mode is not something I normally use - I would just like to have it available should I have a need in the future......I don't know what the problem is they all worked before.....

Hi,

If the Director Mode used to work for you then it might be worth uninstalling the software and then do a fresh install. This should fix any problems that may have occured with your installation.

If after doing this the problem still exists then you should contact Technical Support for further assistance. They will be able to offer you some things to try to help resolve this issue.

Well, I am still where I was on the 8th - I did a complete un-install and the reinstall (boy that was fun) Upon reinstalling the program - I tested the problem areas and they worked fine after the normal install and after the installation of the first patch - only after the 2nd patch install -  that everything went wacky. I Emailed tech support on the 9th - it is now the 16th - I don't believe I will be hearing from them - if they haven't answered me by now....This was the 2nd communicate I have send Reallusion and did not get a response - the 1st one was about how does some one go about getting certified in iclone.....I see the page for it but no further instructions. reallusion is either really busy in which case I understand or they are losing touch with their client base - I hope it is not the latter.

If anyone has any suggestions on the first issue - that is the director's mode is not working and a way to resolve it - I would appreciate it. - thanks for the help so far....

Just a thought...Do you have something actually selected, such as a character you plan to manipulate, before entering Director Mode?

Thanks for the question - Yea---I have used directors mode before - so I am familar with how it works--F.Y.I....-I  used it during the re-install process and it seemed to have worked after the original install and after again the 1st patch install - it was only after the 2nd patch - (director's mode) appears that my problem begins....Thanks for the question though...

Apologies -the above won't quote.

A common prob re; Command Error is that you're inadvertently at the end of your Timescale & haven't returned to the Start.Happens here when I forget & I've seen it Posted byothers.

Select 18,000 Frames anyway, to give you extra leeway.

Posting  Screenshots might help others to resolve it.

Thank-you Colour for you suggestion. I tried it this time making sure the action preformed was not at the end of the timeline. I have uploaded a print-screen - just keep in mind I had to take my hand off the forward "w" key in order to take a print-screen snap shot. It is probably something stupid I am doing - but I would like to use it more - I appreciate any help - thanks again.

Thank's Peter - I tried that once before - if I recollect correctly - support informed me that the character was not selected - for me to check the manual and use the forum and they closed it out. As you can see in the previous post the actor is selected - and is nothing different from before..when I was reviewing the problem with support....no - I have had experience with support and is why I am back on the forum. I know it is probably something stupid I am doing - but I just can't figure it out - and as I said before it is something I don't normally use - but it would be nice just to have it-when I may need it. Thanks for your help though- it is appreciated - have a great day everyone.

Looking at your Screenshot, these are my initial observations:

1) Not sure what your Character is. Looks like a Character with a base Cloth awaiting Texturing.

If it is, maybe you should Texture first & Save your Character to your Custom Characters, before you Animate via Director Mode W Key.

Can you test again with a Standard Character, eg; Benny? If he works ok, then that narrows   it down to your Character "As is", IMO.

2) Since your PreviewScreen Timescale Scrubber is at approx half-way along the total Timeline, I assume that Director Mode W Command is "Stuck" at the beginning & your Character hasn't moved along the Timeline?

3) Test with a different Camera angle: Press Enter in Director Mode, to change the Camera angle / Rotate, using the Rotate Tool, so that your Character is facing right to left. Then press the W Key. Doing that should give a better view of the W key not working.

Anyone-else like to comment?

Thanks for your help - I will try your suggestions 1st chance I get - Thanks again.
F.Y.I. The character used in the print-screen was Jana.

ADDED - BTW

If your Character Performs ie; Walks on the spot but doesn't Move, when pressing the W Key in Director Mode, that's because your Character needs to be in a 3D Scene. Either a Template or a Scene you've created.

It's the Scene that Moves in Director Mode. Not the Character. Giving the impression that the Character is Moving, when it isn't.

Maybe that's what you've been doing wrong, all-along?
