Greetings, I have just purchased a new computer for CA4:

CPU Solutions CEV-6659 Video Editing PC i9 9900K to 5.0Ghz 8 Core, 64GB RAM, 512GB NVMe SSD, 2TB HDD, Win 10 Pro, Quadro P2000 w/5GB
Now, it is very slow and jumpy when I try to use the face tracker.  I have tried different settings and no better results.  I am new to CA4, just trying to learn the program.  Is there anything I can do to make the face tracker work like the video samples show it in the tutorials?
Thanks for all you input.

Hi...

Can you confirm if the issue is in the monitoring of your face in the "Face3D Tracker" window or is the slowness of your 2D character in Cartoon Animator 4 itself?

If it is in CTA4, then try opening Preferences (CTRL+P) and lower the Max Real-time Map Settings. Then check the FPS you are getting by turning this on in Preferences or press CTRL+F.

If the problem is in the Face3D Tracker window, then it may be due to the webcam being used. Try lowering the Resolution and adjusting the Video FPS to see if that makes a difference. If you have second webcam try that to eliminate if the issue is with the first webcam or the webcam drivers.

Also if you have a new computer, please make sure you have run Windows Update and separately updated your graphics drivers. Out of the box a new computer will likely need quite a few updates so if these haven't been done, then that could be the cause of the problem.

Peter,
I updated all my drivers.  It works somewhat better.  My question:  Should my webcam be set at the same resolution as what I set Face3D Tracker at?  Or keep my webcam at 1980x1020?  Also, are there any tutorials for the 'expression mapping panel' and the 'tracking data inspector' panel in the gear list panel?  Will those help my motion be more fluid?  I am using the logitech C920 webcam.

Thanks again Peter for your help and input.

Hi David

If you are finding the Face Tracker is jumpy or sluggish at 1920 x 1080 try changing the to say 1280 x 720 or even right down to 640 x 480 and see if you notice a difference (for the better). Having a high resolution is not so important for face tracking. You should also be fine with a 30fps setting. You can make these changes in the Face Tracker settings.

And in case you haven't seen them all, do check out our Motion LIVE 2D Face3D tutorials below.
