If you find all the different types of avatars such as G1, G2, G3, standard, non-standard and non-human confusing then take a look at the video below. Plus as an added bonus if you keep watching you'll see the next addition to your cast of iClone actors - GEvolver (Coming Soon). :w00t:

So, I take a week away for a little vacation, and you folks bring about a revolution (gEvolver) while I'm gone!

Now I'm going to stay put and make you sure you don't ever shock us with innovations again. ;)

The new tutorial is beautiful, just beautiful, and the news about gEvolver is ... somewhat shocking. :ermm:

Can you tell us what this means in terms of:

- marketplace opportunities for character developers
- availability of new avatar parts for iClone animations
- potential for an iClone-ready avatar to exist in multiple 3D animation environments
- a choice between iClone or Evolver as an environment for perfecting characters?

Is GEvolver avatar creator an external program ?
How much controll over how the character looks do we really get?
Is there any more information about this ?

Iv been looking at a program for avatar creation but £400 its a bit much this could be just what I need.....:)

You can find out much more about the avatars themselves by going to the Evolver website.

http://www.evolver.com/

GEvolver will be a special iClone version of the Evolver avatars converted to iClone standard characters with interchangable uppers, lowers, shoes and a G4 Head.

More information on how these will be implemented into iClone will be coming very soon. :)

I had a bunch of points Backstage, so I took the plunge and created a gEvolver.

A custom character--face, body, hair, eyes, skin, upper, lower, shoes--costs 2000 points BackStage.

Does that answer your question?
By bluemidget666 - 16 Years Ago
Err No still a bit confused :) you did this from backstage ?
By Paumanok West - 16 Years Ago
Inventory failure.

I received the email which says my avatar is ready, but my inventory shows empty at

http://da.reallusion.com/evolver/

In addition, I checked inventory in BackStage, but it does not show the avatar.

:crying:

EDIT: @bluemidget No, I did this at

http://da.reallusion.com/evolver/

However, that website is owned by reallusion and knows how many points you have in BackStage. It uses BackStage points to buy the avatar.
By bluemidget666 - 16 Years Ago
Thank you :) Im gona check it out now .. have you got a avatar up and running..:)
By bluemidget666 - 16 Years Ago
This is fantastic..But 2000 points per avatar ........

But this is cooool...
How soon is soon?

Hi Pau,

Just as a matter of interest how did you know about the GEvolver website?

I ask because to the best of my knowledge this hasn't officially launched yet and may not be fully working. I will check this later but in the meantime I would advise caution in spending your points there until confirmation that the service is live.

By Paumanok West - 16 Years Ago
Peter,

I saw a mention at the RL Blog and thought it was okay. It appears from what you say that I may have been too hasty.

I appreciate how complex it must be to execute the construction, transport, AND payment for an iClone avatar by a technology partner, so I completely understand if the pipeline isn't finished yet.

I will be happy to either ask for my BackStage points to be redeemed or simply wait for the pipeline to be completed and receive my gEvolver avatar then, if that happens soon.

Yip it works, i have this in iclone working well

By bluemidget666 - 16 Years Ago
So is it safe to use it yet .. I already have 5 avatars made ....:)
By W.VEEKE - 16 Years Ago
hi,

There are a few little inconvienient things yet, so better wait till RL releases the website. The avatars can be exchanged with g3 bodyparts but not connect yet. They speak very well but you cannot exchange the head.

Wil

By bluemidget666 - 16 Years Ago
Cheers Ill leave it till later:)
Can the heads be altered even more once in Iclone ?:)
By Paumanok West - 16 Years Ago
I'm glad Wil got his girl, but my inventory is still empty and my RL points are down to nothing.

Hey, maybe I have an identity management problem at Evolver?

Can someone look into my user ID details and see whether I am registered twice or something?
By Dreamcube017 - 16 Years Ago
Wow this is freaking awesome!

The next step will be to integrate this with the actual evolver site so we can transport characters from there. The reason I say this is because on that site I have an account already and have like four characters.

Also oddly enough, I created a character at the Gevolver site and then went to dashboard after saving and she wasn't there... odd...

Well this is still great.

Hmmm 2000 points? I have to check how much it is to buy points again, but that's cheapter than the normal price for normal export which is 40 dollars and then about 20 more for facial animations so I think this is pretty good... although I still wish they were 1000 like the normal characters were.
By bluemidget666 - 16 Years Ago
2000 point is a bit daunting as thats $20 + 19% vat makes it nearly £20 per avatar, so I have to think about "do I really need it" over "do I want it" if they were 1000 or even 1500 points I would buy loads, so kinda glad there not.

Though they do look good and you really can make you characters look just how you want them to0. Plus the avatars heads made from uploaded images are 100X better than what Iclone itself can do.

Also no clone cloth once there dressed there dressed, and does this see the end of character development within Iclone......mmmmmmmmm :):)

Is it safe to use the site yet ?
By aknzrdude - 16 Years Ago
i noticed the gevolver polys are about similar to G2 - so higher than g3 characters - might pose a problem from multiple characters
By W.VEEKE - 16 Years Ago
Hi

The caracters use less space then g2 or g3 characters because all most the whole clothing is painted on the body inclusive the shoes. There is only one texture also. So it is a whole different character then G2 or G3. I think G3 have clothes with more detail.

Wil

By duchess110 - 16 Years Ago
Like Wil just had to see what they were like.

The picture shows the poly counts as a guide so they are not to high as Wil stated.

By Harper - 16 Years Ago
Interesting that polygon count is related to gender and G3 is less gender biased the G2 or gEvolver. Just a theory, is the popularity of a model schema proportionally related to the size of the gender bias?
By Dreamcube017 - 16 Years Ago
Hm the pricing may seem crazy, but it's actually half the price of the normal ones like I said...

REALLY, the face image matching is better than iClone's? Well then I'll just have to give this a shot then won't I?

I wonder if it's any easier, because even after about 20 minutes of trial and error, I still don't get the desired results in iClone so we'll see.

Oh and by the way, I don't know if the gEvolver site can do it yet, but on the normal site, you can make your own clothes with texture maps... just like clone cloth and you can even make parts and sell them in the evolver store. So maybe iCLone gEvolver will get this feature too.

Oh and also, the gEvolver characters even differe from the actual Evolver characters because the actual characters (the 40+ dollar ones) have multiple poly counts and the clothing is seperate from the actual character and you can import them to different places like blender and ogre and thigns like that... Unity too although it doesn't mention it. So it'd be neat if te accounts were linked and this is why... maybe when it's done, we'll be able to link ou accounts.
By bluemidget666 - 16 Years Ago
This took 5 mins and does look like my girlfriend

Im not saying the price is wrong just not cheap, the faces you can create with this are so much better than Iclone can do, but I would like it within Iclone not external and costly, I need to do the maths, I can buy a program for £400 that will do this, and more thats 20 avatars from this site ..... ummmmmmm you see what I mean.. I like this but its not a long term solution and I think it could kill developing character development within Iclone...

By Dreamcube017 - 16 Years Ago
Hmm I am going to try the face thing on the normal evolver site because it seems gEvolver looses my characters.
By bluemidget666 - 16 Years Ago
Is it safe to use this site yet ?
By Dreamcube017 - 16 Years Ago
I doubt it. We weren't even suppose to know about it and as long as it says "This is in beta testing" I don't think it's safe to use for production work... well I guess if you can pull them in then go ahead, but if something glitches up, don't be angry.

Hi Everyone,

The official launch of the GEvolver service will be very soon now. As soon as it is launched I'll update this thread and let you all know. It shouldn't be long now. :)

By Peter (RL) - 16 Years Ago
The iClone Avatar Service is now officially available and you can start creating your Standard avatars (2000 points) immediately. You can find out more about this service HERE.

Non-Standard avatars will also be available soon and are slightly cheaper (1300 points). The final touches are being put togther for these avatars so they may not be quite ready as you read this.

*** As a special launch promotion you can buy two and get another absolutely free. ***

Nice! How long will the 2 for 1 offer be going on?

Just to clarify this. It is buy 2 get 1 free.

There is currently no fixed date for when the promotion will end but I wouldn't leave it too long. ;)

Hi.. Non-Standard characters have no interchangable parts and can't do facial animation. They are just one complete mesh but they can be fully animated with all motion files.

Been having a good readup on all the new paperwork released.

One question for you Peter are Reallusion going to do just a Head Option. As there seems to be some very good head models that could be created and the head interchange with G3/G4Head Characters seems to be the best fitting. Also may be a cheaper option to buy and make the existing G3/G4Head Characters a little bit more unique.

Just a thought.

Hi BM,

When you make your purchases you will only be charged 4000 points for the 3 avatars so you should still be able to purchase if your balance is 4000 points.

I think because of initial demand it may be taking longer to receive all avatars. This should get better in a couple of days. Please let us know if you still haven't received all your avatars within 24 hours.

With regards to the size issue when transported to iClone. I will check this with the GEvolver team and see if this is a known issue or a bug. I'll post more information when I get it.

Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. :)

Hi Duchess,

The iClone Avatar Builder uses Evolver technology to create the avatars rather than Reallusion's own software. Currently Evolver use a single avatar system with the head and body combined with a single texture map.  This means that at the moment a head creator alone using this system is not really possible. I will pass on your suggestions to the product team though. It may be possible to implement something similar in the future.

By duchess110 - 16 Years Ago
Thanks for the reply.

Also another suggestion while on.

If the head option does not materalize please oh please ask them to do something about the shoes. I would sooner have my characters barefoot.:D

By Bigboss - 16 Years Ago
I think something does not sound right in Peter's response?

It is said in the DEMO Video that GEvolver characters can exchange G4 heads so I assume you can import GEvolver character into iClone, save and use its head on another iClone Character?

Did I miss something?

This is becoming quite interesting :) !!!

Thanks.

By afterThought - 16 Years Ago
If I get what Peter meant correctly, I think he means that coming out of Evolver, you can't just export the heads alone. It has to be the heads with the body. It's the conversion to an iClone compatible format that allows us to save the heads separately.

I quite agree Duchess. The shoes are the weak point of the GEvolver avatars. Thankfully you can switch them to standard G3 shoes which makes all the difference.

Hopefully the guys at Evolver can improve on these in the future.

Hi BB,

My point was that on the Evolver side, the avatar is supplied as a single .iAvatar file with a single texture for head and body. As the Avatar Builder is powered by Evolver technology it would require a change at their end to supply heads only.

You are correct that you can put a GEvolver head on an iClone avatar but the texture for it remains part of the full body map which does cause color issues. To get the color just right you will need to do a little editing of the texture.

More information can be found in the Avatar Builder online guide which you can find HERE.

Hm I see how it works now I tyhink... DARN I wish the G-evolver characters kept the body shape I set up in Evolver though because I'm really not the best at morphing characters yet and they morph so well and easily there and they have the shape I want... and then for me to go do it in iClone myself... is not quite the resulting shape I want. ... Trust me, I've tried.
