Firstly, let me say THANK YOU RL for putting it in back stage because if I would've bought the pack first, I would've been really upset.
Secondly, Kudos to you guys at RL becfause this is by far the BEST looking set of anime characters I've seen for iClone yet! I mean seriously, you guys did a REALLY REALLY great job on these...
So when I saw this in BackStage I was thrilled. Man, all the possibilities... but then I took a closer look at the way the character was made (specifically Kana [the blue haired one]) and found out a few things... She's not an exact G3 character like Peter said she was... The face, hair, and eyes appear to simply be acceseries that don't really do anything but sit there... well the hair does have spring animation which is cool... but... it appears that the face cannot be animated.... a big let down for me as I wanted to do more with them than just have tthem dance... Is there a way to create facial animations with them or no?
Darn.
I really hope you guys make more characters in this style, but next time, have it so we can animate the face please. I know it's possible to make this face with the actual faces with a little work. If you guys can do that, I will happily by these as I could totally use these.
I can still use Kana right now for some shorts... she just won't smile... or talk... or blink for that matter.

I have purchased a few things from 3drt and their stuff is really good. Agree would be nice to be able to fully animate the faces in the Anime Pack. Not having the pack myself a question and possible suggestion could you change the head or not and use the head anime syle to add this would then give you the option to animate facial. Just a thought.

Those are pretty good but yes, they also have no facial animations I bet... but you will be able to bring those into iClone when 3DX 4 comes out... wow that's a lot of formats that they come in.
However... I still think these characters in the Jam band look better as far as the style of look for anime goes. These characters remind me of a sort of Miku Hatsune design.

These characters are great. The ONLY and I litterally mean the ONLY issue is that they have no face animations. How are they suppose to be singing with NO FACIAL ANIMATIONS???
...even though in MikuMikuDance, there's no face animtions either but still... this isn't MikuMikuDance, it's iClone.
I'm hoping more anime characters of this quality will come out for iClone (and not just for dance, but like school uniform stuff, normal slice of life type of things, and well... just all sorts of things), but next time with facial movements.

I have the Jam Pack and they do have very basic facial animation under the perform tab....
The set from 3Drt dont look like they have. I love playing with the Animation Masters set but it limited because of the lack of face animation....
But with the new 3dexchange the ability to bring in pre rigged characters could do away with this problem. Look at Quidam 3 that can create a very wide range of low poly (pro version, expensive) characters fully rigged including chartoon style ones.

I feel that iClone already provides comprehensive support for easily replicating this character, in a way that is fully animatable.
I took a few minutes this morning and got this far--see below.
If someone will explain to me whether I am authorized to upload a character based on Violet, with Jana's head, I would be happy to turn this over to folks that want it. Body is G3; head is G4.
Giving you the textures alone would not be sufficient, because of the many modifications to head and body proportions.

Hey animatech, I actually got them when you gave them away at the wolf and dulci show... however they are all in one vns file so I'm not sure how to split them up and actually use them. Any suggestions?
Also, I actually have Violet and Jana. If it's made out of the default characters then I don't see why it's not ok. I could totally use it as a base for other girl anime characters.

Well then I'll have to see what they are. I've come up with a way to do some limited face animtions such as eye blinks and mouth movements. But I don't want to accidentally break their face if they have some preset already so I'll have to take a look when I get home.

Yeah the Jam Band Girls , if you right click on your character then go to perform, there is a set of actions for the head, making them blink, wink n talk:D

Oh, this is great news. I know it's been explained before but it always somehow confused me. When you put it this way, it's easy to see why the policy is only fair!
This character has Jana's head and hair and Violet's body and Trey's shoes, so she is totally street legal. Although it's not necessarily a finished character design, this project spills my secret tooning sauce, including my Image-based Lighting map. If you improve her, post a picture so we can see.
EDIT: You know, it's not too strong to say that normally I actually dislike the anime style... but after creating this character, I actually think she's VERY cute!

Ok I've taken a look at the facial animations. They're actually are a good number of things I can use here. I can cut them up and use them to manually lip sync... ugh.
But they DO have face animations... but I just can't gure out HOW they're donig it.
I looked in the face and eyes tab and there's something called bones there that has no texture... my guess is that's what's controlling the face, but we have no access to those itseems. So a script's controlling them and it's playing premade animations. But I can just seperate them and fix them to be the way I need them to be.
Thanks for the character, I can learn a lot from looking at this.

Well it only works in theory since you can't change textures on the fly...
Ok so basically you make a TINY video of things like the eyes blinking. You'll have to take the eye texture and make an *eyes closed) one off of iit, then make a video at the same resolution that the eye texture is and just have the video show eyes open, close for .25 seconds, then open again. Then you bring that as a video texture of the eyes into iClone and then since you can rewind and pause and stuff, use it that way. Same goes for the mouth (and any texture for that matter)
But now that I see that they have facial animations, I don't suggest doing that or you could break the others. What I suggest doing is cutting the animations up and you'll have to manually lipsync. For things like eye blinking, it pops up in the time line (if you have Pro) as one of those little blocks so you can move and paste it and everything. You can't have tem have super dynamic facial animation, but it does work.
Now what I'm try8ing to figure out is how to make the face super deform or have their eyes go all super large like it does in actual anime. If I can figure out how they are animated, I may be able to do it through that, otherwise, I may just have to do it in post or have a 2D image pop up over the face when that happens.
So it's a little more work, but this idea was taken from observing how the faces were animated in Ape Escape 3 for the PlayStation 2. The faces are flat and the actual face (eyes and mouth) are a video texture with the animations just...well, animated somewhere else and put on the face. I think that's how it works, but that IS what I had in mind, but I can just use those facial animations that they come with...
Ok so RL didn't leave me completly hanging out to dry. Again I say though, these are some of the best anime characters I've ever seen in iClone so I hope they make more like that.

I was wondering if there was some way to have say a set of lips pronoucing a,e,i,o,u,s ect... but hidden and layered in place then change the lips by hidding and showing different lips.....
Maybe using AML... :)

The best way to use the Jam Band facial animations is in Director Mode where you can use hotkeys to select them as required. Full instructions on using the facial animations are HERE. :)

For the animation masters collection,.. those are the 3D ones in yourr earlier link right?
You can do that same animated texture trick... however I don't know how those characters are assembled so I can't say if that'll work or not.
Since you actually have access to the 3D models (the FULL 3D models) then you can just go make morph targets yourself and have a field day.
The solution I posted was for if you didn't have that option or if the faces are just flat and you don't want to make the mouth or targets. If they actually have shapes in their faces for lips but just no morphs, you can just morph them yourself in another program.

Wait a minute... is this the pack that you displayed earlier? how did you get her into iClone... if this is for iClone, where's the link for this pack.
And yes she does have an actual mouth, so you can do morph targets... but I don't think you can pull those into iClone yet (unless 3DX 4 will suuport them). Uh... right now... I'm not entirerly sure. Video animated faces only really work on FLAT or near flat things. Since she actually has litteral geometry for her mouth, (an actual 3D mouth) it may not look quite right.

EDIT: Hey Blue, what is the animation masters set? I'm trying to find it and I don't reall7y iknow where to look? Is it in the iCLone store, a different site? on that 3Dart site?
Where? The entire time I thought you were refurring to that 3D art page, but I'm now realizing that you're not. I can't give any info on that pack because I don't really know what it is.

Ok I found them, yes this is the pack you have I'm sure and THANK you , what luck it is to find these!... yes no face animations are lame... BUT... my video idea WILL work because the mouth is... well... no mouth, it's just... a line. So you can do that video idea I mentioned, just becareful because I think the entire texture for the whole character is in ONE thing so make sure that NOTHING else changes.
I have to go but I'll play with these when I get back home.

As for the animation masters, yeah there are no muths and you have to be careful when editing the texture since there are no fiacial animations.

Hi Intreagued about these anime girls and was it possible to get talking within iClone without to much work involved. So Dreamcube with some of the points I had on backstage purchased just one to see what could be done. You can get them to speak without to much trouble. 1 - Open a standard character select head then head again on the right of screen and change to the anime style head and save as custom head. 2 - Open your original Jam Band Character 3 - Then click on Head 4 - Select the anime head that you had saved. You will see it now ontop of the other face. 5 - Then on your original Jam Character delete the face and both eyes leaving just the new anime face. 6 - You will then need to change the skin colour to suit your needs but will have a full talking Jam Band Anime Girl. 7 - Save her as a new Custom Character. You will no longer have the right click face expression on this new Character but you will still have all those on your original and on your new you can have her say whatever you want. Hope this info helps those with the pack.
