Hello everyone,

Here is the first model of my Car'Toons series.
This is a simple model with many animable parts.

Model car: Basic car 2 doors (model A)

_ PBR with principle of materials "by type of material" to easily change color (do not forget to tick the box "Affect all materials with the same name"!)
_ Animatable elements: wheels, doors, hood, trunk, steering wheel, pedals, handbrake, shifter, steering wheel, glove box.
_ Can be used with iCar Body Shop - Mechanic Tool Kit

Other versions of this car (wagon and 4 doors) are being prepared but also a van. Subsequently will come a truck and a sedan .. and I hope many other models! .. but it is quite long to manufacture :), it will be in the year I think.

I hope you will like it !

hello here!
The second model is published!
Like first model:
_ PBR with principle of materials "by type of material" to easily change color (do not forget to tick the box "Affect all materials with the same name"!)
_ Animatable elements: wheels, doors, hood, trunk, steering wheel, pedals, handbrake, shifter, steering wheel, glove box.
_ Can be used with iCar Body Shop - Mechanic Tool Kit

I have a question. I worked a lot to try to produce a reliable setup with the principle of path. It is with this setup that I produced the animation of the video of the first model. The goal is to have the vehicle that follows the path with a physical dynamic to spin the wheels. The trajectory is thus much more precise than when using the Physix remote control system.
Unfortunately, this mechanism is quite delicate and is not reliable in all circumstances. That said, I wonder if this preconfiguration could interest some people? If so, I can integrate it into the models with a small tutorial. What do you think ?

Now, I hesitate for the third model to produce ... the van? or the 4-door version of the basic car? The 4-door version will include two sub-versions, a police version and a taxi version ... someone would have a preference?
See you soon ladies and gentlemen

With all these answers, I had to make a decision :D !
So I worked the model of the van, to vary the pleasures.

It's going well, I hope to start the materials soon!https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/4916f742-faad-450e-9b11-2b71.jpg

Well, here is the third Car'Toon model released!
This time it is a van with three possible configurations.

Like the other models, a maximum of elements are animable and one can easily change the colors.

All models can be tried!

They are very nice looking cars, Pixtim!
By toystorylab - 6 Years Ago
Seems i missed your thread...
Nice looking cars and the promo video is cool.
Love the behaviour of the car.
So, having your preconfigurated "path"-option (not sure what it really means/does) integrated + tutorial would be great.
Any chance to get a special price on a "combo of all cars" (when you finally finished all cars)?
Surely i would like to have 'em all (including the police-car)...
By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
Really thanks Animagic ! it's more work than I thought, but I'm having fun making them anyway! ;)
By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
Thank you for your reactions guys! I felt a little lonely in this thread! lol

Toystorylab: as I said it is quite a long time to make. Several other models are planned. The truck and the 4-door car (which will be in normal version, in taxi version and font version) are next on the list. There is also a sport coupe that will look like something like this:
https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/01ad80e7-c618-41c2-94ae-dd0a.jpg

When I have done these six models (I do not count the declensions, they will be integrated), I will make a pack. That way it will give "for five bought: one offered".

But I'm not there yet, already, tomorrow I will take 10 days of vacation in the snow! Then, I do not have too much idea of planning, I hope to finish them for the beginning of the summer (I prefer to plan wide because I have some other professional occupations).

For the animation system, I unfortunately did not manage to make it completely reliable. That's why I did not integrate it.
By cons, I think that as soon as I come back from vacation, I will make a free asset with a tutorial to show how I put it up and what the constraints.
Even if it's not perfect, it's still good to have the wheels turn correctly and to have the vehicle that is exactly the way you want!
So promised, I'll do that first on my return!

See you soon guys !
By Zeronimo - 6 Years Ago
love these little cars. I think I'll buy the pack as soon as it's available. In the meantime good holidays.
Can I suggest the fire truck and the ambulance?
By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
I am very happy that their design you like, find the right proportions is not easy!

And yes, suggestions are welcome.
_ taxi
_ police car
_ convertible car
_ trailer truck (with different trailers ...)
_ fire truck
_ ambulance
_ limousine
_ bus
_ camping car
_ cell van
_ etc., etc....

Ahouuuu, I think I'll work on it for a few years! : D

That said, when I finish the first series, I will ask those interested in what models to do first. I do not know if we can include a voting principle in a thread in this forum?
By animagic - 6 Years Ago
You can start a poll (option Post Poll next to Post Topic).

List the options and let people vote. 10 options per poll.

Thank you Mark !

Ok i'm back ! let's go to work on the four door car ! :)
By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
the police car is soon finished and the taxi too (but for him not yet preview).
Whether for the wagon or the 4-door version, I have to resume modeling, all the unfolding UV and a lot of things.
For the next model, I will go on vacation with a small sports cabriolet! :)

OKAY! It's published!
The three versions of the basic car 4 doors model are included in the same package: police car, taxi and normal model. As for the Van which is also declined in 3 versions, the price is the same as for each pack ($ 18 and $ 24 for the export version).

By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
Your model is a bit too excessive, too marked in the cartoon style .. I have to make vehicles that go together so that they can be used in the same project.
By cons, maybe as for some other models, I will make several versions, including a sedan.
By The-any-Key - 6 Years Ago
True. The style I am after is between cartoon and the real world. Will post on the wishlist when the time comes.
By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
The design is accurate ... it's fun .. it reminds me when I was a kid and I played with miniature cars ....: D

Love it! I think this one will find its way into my avatars garage ;). Great work.
By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
Thank you ToKoMotion! It makes me very happy :)
A small cabriolet, we already imagine a road trip on a road at the edge of the ocean, on a beautiful road with cornice and a beautiful sunset ... aaaah holidays and sweetness of life
By ToKoMotion - 6 Years Ago
Haha, so true :D
By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
The fifth model is online!
Sport car convertible (soft top included for rainy day)

Next: the truck! Less sexy but useful;).
After this one I will be able to do the complete pack and then, I will dive back into my animation system based on spline tracking and I will include the tutorial I mentioned.
Hop! in the meantime, weekend! :)

Well I ended up on a big sleepless night (we say like that in English also for one night or we do not sleep?), But .... it's done!

The sixth model is completed and the complete pack with the six models (12 models if we count the declensions!) Is published !!!

As I had announced, the pack saves the price of a model.

As of next week, I will resume my tests on the animation of the car with the path drawn. I will publish news here.

I will also add a few things in the car packs afterwards.

Well, it's already afternoon here ... zouuuu I'm going to bed! Good night everybody ! :) :) :)

By toystorylab - 6 Years Ago
Nice! I see you already have 3 of them in the content store.
Will the "bundle" also be available in the content store?
By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
Normally yes. Reallusion must look at each vehicle to validate them.
Maybe they will ask me to do some adaptations, Maybe they will want to wait for me to include demo video and a tutorial on how to animate ...
so I have no idea when.
By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
For information, I just added a lighter version for each model of vehicle in each pack and in the general pack of course.
It is the same polygonal model, but the textures are either reduced in size or transformed into simple materials (with basic pbr adjustment).
This will simplify things when some vehicles are in the background and do not need very detailed textures.

(and I advance on the tutorial :)  )
By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
Youhouuuuu! This time, it's totally complete!

Preset animation added in all the packs and video tutorial performed!

The annoying thing is that the animation preset only works well on flat shots. The physics engine that creates collision cages is really not accurate enough, the animation is quickly bumpy. That said, it can still work on small parts.

After, there is a cheating that is always possible for the terrain with volume ... I included in the packs a second set of wheels that have no details ... So, no need to rotate them with physics and we can use spline tracking and the function "follow Terrain", it works very very well! :)

So everything is available on the market place and should soon be published on the content store.
And for those who do not want to buy, the animation system is available in trial. So you can see the principle without any problem.

I hope you will like it !

Thank you for your support Toystorylab!
In fact I talk a lot about what I do on the forum because it helps me to motivate me and put me deadlines. When I was working on shows, I had a team and a delivery date. To do projects on the market place, I'm alone and it's a big job! So as I'm a talkative ... it must be evacuated somewhere! :D
By toystorylab - 6 Years Ago
They finally arrived at Toystorylab...
BUT they are way too heavy on resources :pinch:, even the "light" ones.
I don't see one populate a city with them...
I have all 8 Models (light) loaded and iClone lags, FPS 1,28.
That way, animating them won't be fun...
Unless you say that is not normal?

Hello ToyStoryLab!
In fact, these vehicles are more likely to be in the foreground. This is why the interior details are present and everything is articulated to be animable. With the quality of the models and textures, you can even make interior shots of a character driving.

In general, when you make an animated film, you do not use the same models in the foreground and in the background. Except of course if you have the technical resources of Pixar with render farm available (and ... it depends)!

In the video game, the distance is automatically detected and several versions of the elements are automatically used according to the distance to the camera.

What slowed the most graphic cards are the textures. They must be charged in memory and they must react with the lighting, especially when the materials are in PBR.

But, if you really want to put a lot of vehicles, the best is to prepare models without textures, or reduce their sizes. (because just to be used in close-up, most textures are in 2048 * 2048).

The best thing is that you show me what you want to do, I can advise you at best. Post a picture of what you are doing on this thread if you can. Today I have appointments, but tomorrow I can guide you to find a solution with pleasure :).

Thanx for quick reply ;)
No need to get worried or stressed.
Have no plan yet how i will use the cars.
Only checked after purchase and wondered how heavy they are.
Will try to make the textures smaller and see what happens...
By Pixtim - 6 Years Ago
If you do not need a rendering with material, the organization of materials is made to work without any textures.
I mean, for example, chrome is a unique material, the bodywork too, just like leather and plastics.
If you want something very light, just remove all the textures.
Only a few small details are not modeled in polygons and this will not hinder the aesthetics of the vehicle.
It is always difficult to find the right balance to configure an object for sale, the uses can be very very varied.
My logic is to tell me that it is better that I put a maximum of things and that the users will be able to remove what they do not need .. it is easier to remove than to add things;)

In any case, if you need technical advice, do not hesitate, I have some background in FX and production :)
