Hi Everyone:
New to iClone (7) and I am looking at the iClone 6 Fundamentals Training Videos and am wondering if the will still apply to iClone 7 considering the series was developed for\with ic6
I Thank you in advance
D.

Although the training videos are quite good, Reallusion has been more active in creating their own tutorials for iClone 7, (as have others, such as Warlord), so there is no immediate reason to buy the training videos. Search on YouTube for iClone 7.

The user interfaces of IC6 and IC7 are quite similar, but some things would be done differently (often easier) in IC7 and there are also additional features.. So if your are just starting out it's better to learn from the current version.

Yes, I can vouch for the number of 'online' videos available, over 400. I'll post a detailed list for you. These videos include products other than just iClone, (and they're in alphabetical order). It's not all, but certainly *most* of them. I purposefully added dates so that I could get a handle on what time era a particular feature is from.

Some of these videos have been made by iClone members - a substantial number by 'Alan Marques' - (the ones you mentioned - Alan's 'iClone 6 Fundamentals Course'), and 'WarLord' - (with his Youtube Channel 'WarLord720'). I think one of the hardest things for any iClone newcomer to work out is, "what is relevant" to the current release? Also, I've often googled information about some iclone approach, only to find the answer is from a 2008 or 2010 thread - and is mostly not even relevant.

Your asking about reference videos has helped bring this list to the forum (may be helpful to others), plus made me 'tidy up' my 'growing list'. BTW - I haven't watched even half of these as yet - lol ..... But It's fair to say that things are moving along with iClone - those who've 'grown with it' have had the advantage of assimilating gradually over time.

Hi Everyone:
New to iClone (7) and I am looking at the iClone 6 Fundamentals Training Videos and am wondering if the will still apply to iClone 7 considering the series was developed for\with ic6
I Thank you in advance
D.

As the creator of the iClone 6 Fundamentals course I am obliged to say that although there is still stuff in it that is relevant, iClone 7 has changed so much that you would not benefit from buying it, much that I would love the royalties.  There are too many reasons to mentioned but the big two things to point out are that the menu system has changed to accommodate new features and some items have even been moved from the pull down menus into dialog boxes like 'Project Settings'.  Nothing more annoying trying to follow a tutorial and finding you can't because the menu item is simply not there.  The other big one of course is PBR which is just not in iC6 and makes the whole lighting module pretty much redundant.

sonic7 and Rampa are have provided an excellent list of free YouTube tutorials and undoubtedly right now this is the way to go for the moment.

I wish you well in your adventure with iClone.

Greetings & Merry Christmas.

I'm a newbie/beginner with iClone and possess a LOW level of technical savvy with this sort of stuff.

Notwithstanding Alan_M's professional modesty & admirable honesty, I'm currently working my way through Alan_M's course and finding it VERY helpful.

Yes, there are things it doesn't & can't cover, since iClone has continued to advance in so many wonderful ways.

But there are a LOT of things the Alan_M course DOES cover -- and does so without hype ... steadily, patiently and with such incredible thoroughness.

The tone of the course is sober and steady -- in that practical-minded, nuts-and-bolts way that's made the Brits such outstanding engineers & innovators.

That may not suit everyone. For me, it's "practically perfect".

The above videos, recommended by Rampa are, of course, very good.

But, personally -- at this early stage of my understanding -- I've found them difficult to follow since they leave out steps or assume a level of familiarity with terms and workflows that I lack.

In conclusion ...

I highly recommend the Alan_M course.

It's massive, it's logical, and it's superbly well organised.

Wow Prodos, I am truly humbled by your reply, it is very kind of you.

I have myself viewed many tutorials, both professional and amateur in my time and have found a great number can be infuriating to make your way through.  So, when I designed that course I tried my best to avoid all the pet hates I had come across in other videos.  The main thing was to produce a Project based course that had a structure that could be easily followed and the second was not to shy away from trouble shooting.  The authors of far too may tutorials in my opinion, when they come across a technical problem that stops them in their tracks, they either gloss over the issue or far worse, they completely edit it out as though it never happened.  This leaves the viewer in a difficult position if they come across that problem, which is very likely, as they have no idea how to deal with it.  I always feel it is better to show how you deal with such things and create workarounds or fixes, just as you would in the real world when running into software issues.

I am very glad you are enjoying the course and thanks again for such a positive review.  My hope is to produce an iClone 7 version which I am negotiating with Reallusion about, so we shall see what 2019 brings.
By sonic7 - 6 Years Ago

Alan, it was an oversight on my part, not having included your course in this list. (I've since rectified that). I do appreciate the enormous effort that goes in to producing such a course. I'm thrilled to hear of the possibility that an ●iClone 7● course may possibly eventuate --- I sure hope it does. The reality is that iClone software (and it's features) has grown exponentially in the past couple of years (a mere 24 months). It's going a little to fast for me personally, but - well - that's progress. The natural implication of that is that *good*, up to date learning courses need (unfortunately) to also be available at an exponential rate.

I take my hat off to you for being involved with an such an endeavor - and do wish you the very best with the 'negotiations' Wink

Greetings Alan,

You're very welcome!

My hope is to produce an iClone 7 version which I am negotiating with Reallusion about, so we shall see what 2019 brings.

The Reallusion developers are obviously brilliant and inspired individuals -- and very competitive -- advancing their 2D & 3D software in leaps and bounds.

The problem is that this kind of "overdrive" energy does not necessarily make for good instructors.

A lot of people know how to use technology in amazing ways. Very FEW people know how to TEACH.

I've learned more about using iClone correctly just from following your careful, thorough overview of iClone's MENU items (!!) then I have from watching dozens of hours of those other way-too-fast, way too hyped up, completely incomplete, careless tutorials.

I'm not exaggerating.

The best thing REALLUSION could do for its truly exciting products is invest HEAPS in calm (I repeat: calm), steady-minded, honest-to-goodness, no-nonsense teachers.

That would be a very good and a very profitable business decision for REALLUSION.

Well ... enough "writing to Alan"! I must now get back to "listening to Alan"!
Yes, back to my iClone tutorials.

The good stuff! Smile

prodos .... you do make some very *valid* points here for sure.
I'll personally now be *totally honest* - When it comes to *purchasing instructional videos* - I'm a cheapskate - no doubt about it (well let's just say that many a $ is spent on the 'software' - so there's not much 'left over' - lol) ...
Which is *why* - I've always sort out the "freebies" .... (I don't think I'm alone with this approach) However, once you find a *good* teacher (read; no hype, talk you through like a 'friend' approach) - then I'd personally be prepared to pay a reasonable amount for that instructor's expertise ...
(and I also by the way, make reference to 'WarLord' here - for all his efforts - as well as others like Rampa, IllusionLab, Kelleytoons etc)....
By justaviking - 6 Years Ago
I'm going to link to a video with some great advice.
(I've shared this before, but it's relevant to this thread.)

Andrew Price (a.k.a. Blender Guru) talks about the **VALUE** of paying for training (and better hardware).  He makes some great points.  In terms of paying for training, assuming it's good training, you not only learn faster, but you learn proper techniques, "why" you do things, and you avoid learning bad habits.  For me, iClone and my other software toys are just that - toys - so I'm very reluctant to spend much money on them.  Even so, I can see that he makes several very compelling points.

Greetings sonic7.

When it comes to *purchasing instructional videos - I'm a cheapskate

You want "cheapskate"?!

I'm a Greek-Australian (Full name: Prodos Stefanos Nicholaou Marinakis). I think that tells you everything you need to know! BigGrin

However, once you come to realize properly a *good* teacher (read; no hype, talk you through like a 'friend' approach) - then I'd personally be prepared to pay a reasonable amount for that instructor's expertise ...

Absolutely agree.

I hesitated a loooong time before buying Alan's course (for the above ethnic + possibly a few rational reasons to boot).

So glad I finally took the plunge.

Mind you, it was on special at the time.

But it all worked out just fine in the end. Cool

By sonic7 - 6 Years Ago

@Dennis ----- Well I've seen some of Andrew's videos before (to do with Blender) - but - in this particular presentation I have to say - he makes a lot of sense. (not that he doesn't make sense with Blender). Mind you - the final 'judgement call' about free vs paid is still down to partly a 'subjective' call. Personally, I think you get to *know* whether you're 'relating' to an instructor (or not). Prodos' mention of 'hype' vs 'true teaching ability' is very true. The hard part with psid is knowing what the experience is going to be like. But with all this discussion, I do feel that Alan's 'reputation' as a teacher has been shown to be solid.

@Prodos - I think, to be totally honest, you readily *get to know* an instructor's 'manner' - when you have access to 'listen' to them - 'free' means you *can* readily listen & decide. With *paid* - you're buying into a bit of an 'unknown', - though you could *miss a good opportunity*, because of 'holding-off' purchasing ....

I think it's a *trust* thing, and I'm a very 'wary' person at times -- lol ....
By jarretttowe - 6 Years Ago
Paid versus free is simple...people are more likely to use something they paid for versus something they got for free.
Reallusion should have a master class training series on udemy that addresses every aspect of their software. I really like their recent youtube focus, but they should be doing this continually...and they should reach out to veterans here to produce videos on specific topics, and there should be a focus on basics...scene creation, planning, camera movement, character interaction, etc. Of course, we want the technical stuff too, but a robust training course on udemy would be huge for the platform. Having a course on udemy would also spur creation of other training courses. And the more training available, the more the user base will grow.
By sonic7 - 6 Years Ago

Hi Jarret  " .... people are more likely to use something they paid for versus something they got for free .... "
Ideally yes - I'd agree - unfortunately, in my situation I'm guilty of *failing* to use stuff I've paid for and, at times, go hammer and tong at eeking out the 'free' lol ....
But I have to agree with your observation about the need for a 'robust' course - focused on 'basics' ....
The acid test would be - If I can understand it (and get 'productive') - then it's a *good* course - lol

I thank you again for this growing list. The information provided in these videos is helping shorten the learning curve.Your hard work in cataloging and listing these is greatly appreciated. And to the monitors of the form posts\lists like this should be pinned to the top. It is very helpful and answers many questions.
By sonic7 - 6 Years Ago

Well thank YOU Doug for starting this thread .... it's most productive I feel ... Smile

I look at it this way .... I'm:
* Not Computer Illiterate (not totally anyway)
* I'm a 'creative' person with a passion for Audio Visual
* A bit of a 'Perfectionist' - to my own downfall
I *hate* reading 'manuals' - love watching instructional Videos ....
So, as a result I love to engage with the likes of WarLord, Rampa, Kelleytoons, Mark (IllusionLab) etc etc ... I get 'bits' from all their Videos ...
But maybe 'structured' is what I need .....

IMHO There are far too many free  knowledge resources online to even consider paying
for anything 3D/CG related instruction.
However I respect those who offer quality paid instruction.
I have a huge library of video tutorials(17 gigabytes)
For C4D,Lightwave ,After effects, nexlimit realflow,Endorphin and of course Iclone, going back to the version 5.5 days
for me the best way to learn is with real projects with real objectives.

I am completely self educated in 3DCG via free  online Tutorials

As little as three years ago ,I did  not even know how to model anything of a complex shape
and knew very little about alpha channel  based compositing & VFX
however with the help of free tuorials on YT, I have managed to liberate myself from a whims of Daz
clothing content makers and now create my own custom clothing and other items for my Sci fi base animations.

I personally  found the reallusion video's By Kai extremely helpful when I migrated from vestigial Poser "pro"
to Iclone 5.5  for Character animation.

I agree - I purchased Alan's course for iClone 6. Agreed there are many other sources for the same info, but having it all in one place and with specific breakdowns for reference is awesome, plus Alan has a style that is very warm & user friendly. It only left me with ONE QUESTION:
WILL ALAN NOW MAKE ONE FOR iCLONE 7?? Inquiring minds want to know! How about it Alan?SmoooothCool ~V~

Since the OP is just starting out, I recommended checking out the current collection of free tutorials first.

I bought Alan's course and I don't regret it, but there are changes in iClone 7 that may not be obvious unless you are familiar with both versions.

EDIT: I just noticed that even Alan himself doesn't recommend buying it.

Also, free or paid, the most important aspect of training that it is or is kept relevant.

As iClone development zooms along, a comprehensive, professionally put together new course is vital -- now more than ever.

I join Rogue Anime -- and many others -- in strongly supporting a new Alan M course.

In fact I think it would be ideal if it was a sort of ongoing "subscription" course that was updated every time iClone got updated.

The modular format of Alan M's iClone 6 course already lends itself to that approach.

Imagine a course that was hardly ever out-of-date! Perhaps lagging no more than a week or two behind each iClone improvement!

What a competitive advantage that would give Reallusion!

First off I would like to say a big thank you to all those who have been good enough in this thread to say such positive things about by course and indeed my teaching style.  Comments like this very much encourage me to look to push forward with creating another one.
Prodos's comment about a course that gets updated is very valid and something I will definitely consider.  A lot of people, including some of the Reallusion staff I deal with do not understand how long it takes to create a course like the Fundamenals series, it was in excess of 50 hours and even working with Makin Movies handling all the editorial it took many months to create.  During that time iClone 6 did get updated and menu items moved and new ones appeared resulting in an addendum video being generated to cope with that.  It is very hard to throw away hours of recorded material and start again.
The other thing that a lot of end users do not realise is how long it takes to record the material, a lot of YouTube videos are done on the fly and often leave in fluff and errors, though a lot are also truly excellent.  To get a recording of the type that is in the Fundamentals course-ware we have learnt that it takes about one day to get one clean hour of usable recording.  I tend to do a lot of pre-planning of the structure and content before actual recording and if I run into one of those outstanding iClone gotchas then I have to go away, find a solution, and then come back and design that into the recording session, the brass bolts on the pub bench being an example.
So, the long and the short of it is that it takes many months to create during which time you cannot really work on commercial projects, which means no income.  In the case of the last course Makin Movies paid me an advance on the royalties so I was able survive through the creation process.  The commitment since the previous course, has been too great for myself to have contemplated a new course of the same volume.  However, things have changed for me in my work life and I now find myself in a position were a I can seriously consider producing another course.
Unless there are any strong objections I will either point RL at this thread, or cut and past some of the comments about my course and teaching style as this will undoubtedly help me with my negotiations with Reallusion to do another course.
Thanks again one and all for your kind comments.

Just one more thing (A famous quote)
I would like to ask of those that have purchased and gone through our course what their opinion is of the first module on the iClone UI.
The reason for this is that module was a bone on contention at one point between ourselves and Reallsion.  RL felt that no one would pay for a course module just about the UI.  Ultimately I belive most people bought the bundled course so it became irrelevant, but at one point they were even considering giving it away.
I personnaly feel there is value in knowing where to find things and also what all those menu items and dialogs actually do.
What are you thoughts on this?
All the best
By sonic7 - 6 Years Ago

My biggest regret (with 'hindsight' now gained) is that I didn't "commence" my exposure to iClone two to three years ago with iClone 6 AND *your Course* (based on what I've heard about it). That would've put me in good stead, maximizing my learning experience, and 'cushioning' the iClone 7 blow - which has changed so much. Anyway, it is what it is ....

Alan, I can't speak with experience about your course (I wish I could), but I do agree that the 'interface' is so fundamentally important - that I'd call it a *must*. What's the point of teaching a person how to be a 'driver' if first they don't learn the car's control's and their function? So you're right in that respect. Personally, I'm hearing you loud and clear regarding the 'time' taken to produce these tutorials. When I used to do professional editing, I used to work on 1 hour per finished production minute, BUT that was just throwing Video, Voice-Over and Music on basic Corporate level docco's in an edit session - at a great rate of knots. The production team had already done countless hours writing and shooting footage etc ... So yes - many hours per finished minute. (only to be eclipsed by 3D animation - lol). The hardest thing for someone like yourself Alan (as you've mentioned) - is trying to *lock-in* some sort of 'definitive' iClone *Version* that will remain relevant to the tutorials for as long as possible. I don't envy you - it's like painting a moving sunrise on canvas .... - it just won't keep still  - lol. (I just wish there was a way you could *insulate* yourself from that difficulty).

But if your 'teaching style' is anything even vaguely like WarLord's easy manner - I could listen to it all day long. Teaching is an art - and some 'have the gift' - I'm sure you do - otherwise you wouldn't have been a consultant for the BBC, nor an instructor at the London Film Academy School. So I think it would be absolutely terrific if you were to create an iClone-7 course. - I'd buy it ....

Greetings.

I've only recently started the course and am currently working my way through the first module.

Every single thing I'm learning is valuable & useful.
I'm going very slowly because I try out -- and even experiment -- with every feature.

If a feature is good enough to design into iClone, isn't it also good enough to learn?

These highly talented tech entrepreneurs are innocently oblivious to how some of us non-tech, non-geek types learn.

What geeks (bless their hearts) think is "intuitive" -- in other words, not requiring step-by-step instruction -- is nearly always wrong.

I have some close friends who are Historians. They can absorb names, dates, places, etc. with incredible thoroughness and accuracy.
They're always surprised when others can't do it.

Reallusion recently made available their iClone manual in PDF. It's massive & covers everything.

Except the text is so faint I can't read it. (I've seen others who have complained about that also.)
What does that tell us?

For one thing, it tells us that being excellent at one thing (developing outstanding software, for instance) almost guarantees you'll be awful at other things. That's a fact.

And, yes, Alan is very right: Knowing where to find things ... by having short, well-explained videos for every, single feature -- focusing just on that one feature (for instance, "the Help menu") -- is extremely helpful as a reference.

I sincerely hope that Reallusion will bite the bullet and Unleash The Alan. Let the teacher teach.

Is that too much to ask for?

Regrettably, I find myself agreeing with this statement ....

I feel that the UI is explained quite excellently in the iClone manual, and would under no circumstances pay for any video that just repeats what anyone can read at their leisure. There is no reasonable requirement to waste time watching a video when the whole UI is so well documented as in the manual - just spend a few moments looking through the "Knowing the Environment" sections, they are also in the PDF version and can be printed out for quick reference reading when required.

One shouldn't forget the extensive list of RL produced free tutorials that are up to date with the latest versions. I do have the purchased iClone "Training Videos" and when I watched how objects were penetrating tables, legs getting buried in chairs etc it was obvious to me that there was very little time invested in ensuring that the product had even a hint of professional animation included - in short, and IMHO, a total waste of money.

I think that's a valid point.

I take from this that some people learn very well using a manual.

And others -- such as me -- don't.

(Edit: And I see in the next comment that sonic7 has a similar take & personal preference.)

Gerry - with all due respect - tho I 'perceive' a somewhat passionate and legitimate view of your's on this .... I do feel that for *some* (and I do include myself here), that Visual Learning is 'Key'. I'm not saying that's the case for everyone. I do feel we're all somewhat different creatures with respects to how we each lean. I really sometimes feel somewhat ashamed of my inability to learn from text books - but I AM what I AM.  So in reality, I have to concede the differences in every individual's abilities - though I do *try* to acknowledge our unified goal here of being iClone creators ... I guess I *sort of* know what I'd like to achieve at the end of the day (though I do have my doubts) - and *if* I can leverage 'visual - aids' to achieve an almost 'monkey see - monkey do' approach ---- then so be it ! ....

Good points sonic7.

Suggestion: Would it be possible for sonic7 to receive half a dozen random lessons from the course? It would be useful to get his firsthand feedback. Can Alan or Reallusion Support people provide that?

@prodos --- funny you should mention that --- those very same thoughts were running through my mind though-out late yesterday and today ...
I'd be thoroughly honored if I had the *opportunity* to review Alan's material...

Reallusion - I have found Alan's training videos on iClone 6 to be comprehensive, and thorough. Having Alan's breakdown by chapters and passages REALLY is a godsend for reference as well as straight up classroom training. Alan has a complete working knowledge of the products and warm style that is worthy of an iClone 7 tutorial series. (& beyond) Kai is good, Alan is a master.
If you have any doubts that it may not sell, I assure it will, and I would buy it in a skinny minute! Alan is your BEST asset.   ~V~
By Alan_M - 6 Years Ago
Gerry's comment is very valid and that is why I asked the question.  Getting various peoples opinions allows one to make informed decisions.
I personally know colleagues in the industry who cannot watch training videos, they prefer technical manuals and some do not like electronic or on-line manuals even to the extent that they like a physical book and will print out a PDF if there is no hard-copy manual available.
And then of course, I know people who do not like printed or electronic documentation at all and prefer to do all their learning from structured video tutorials.
So, ultimately it comes down to personal preference and under those circumstances a straw pole is always a useful thing to do to get an idea if you are going in the right direction or wasting your time.

I will see what I can do, as the co-creator of the course I have reasonable amount of say about what happens with it.  Not to mention the fact that I of course I have the archive of the entire course.  The only issue would be the free assets provided by Reallusion, I would have to negotiate getting access to those as they were provided as a specialist download from the Marketplace. It may be that you would have to live with some watermarking if I provided them directly to you.

Well, that really is darned decent of Alan to try and make this happen.

If it turns out that both a longtime iClone user (sonic7) AND a clumsy newbie (yours truly) end up finding a moderately out-of-date course on iClone 6 worthwhile -- even though they're both now using iClone 7 ... well ... that is not a trivial outcome.

Then we've got Rogue Anime, who is an experienced user who has already done the iC6 course AND is ready, willing and able to fork out for an updated course.

All in all, this is shaping up to be a ringing endorsement of the instructor and an indication that there is very likely a profitable market for such a course given by such an instructor.

That's how I see it.

Dont be shamed  Steve,
Creating animation in a 3D program is a highly visual
activity using a highly visual peice of on screen computer software.
How exactly  did you learn to eat with utensils??
By watching "Live footage" of your parents /etc perform these tasks
.not by reading a book about it.

Hi.

The complete list of tutorials is all well and good appreciate the compiled list and the work behind creating it, but are there actually any links on where to find all this?

This link for example:

iClone 6 - FUNDAMENTAL TRAINING VIDEOS:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NC5pYW3ifWs

this is only a demo preview? you actually have to buy the course right, or?

sonic7 (12/23/2018)

Was curious to know how Alan was travelling with the iClone tutorials?
Steve.

[b]AlbinosGambit
this is only a demo preview? you actually have to buy the course right, or?
Albin.

Hi folks I will do my best to respond belatedly to this forum posts, in particular sonic7 and AlbinosGambit.
First let's address Albin's, it is indeed correct that the iClone 6 Fundamentals course that I created in collaboration with Mysterious Movies is still a paid for product and as per the link previously provided you will see the course still retails for 79$. It shows a reduction from $116 but I cannot recall a time when it was not sold at $79 for the full set of modules. So, yes, it is a commercial product still. There was always an intent to do a course for iClone 7, but more of that later.
Onto Steve's question "Was curious to know how Alan was travelling with the iClone tutorials?".This is going to be a long one so strap in.
The original course was a collaboration between Reallusion, Mysterious Movies and Myself. Reallusion did the high level management content guidance and marketed the course along with providing access to some normally paid for library content that would be given away with the course. Mysterious Movies were the company that had the relationship with Reallusion and did the financial deal for the course, they also provided editorial for the end product. And of course, I was the designer and creator of the course, I would record the screencasts and then hand these over to MM for editorial which including annotation overlays, though I did quite a bit of that myself as well. As you know the course is some 50 hours, this does not get magicked up overnight, if you are making a course and videos that will be sold then the end purchaser has the right and expectation for the material to be presented well. We all know the state of a lot of general free YouTube tutorials where they leave all the errors in etc.
So, the way it works is you need to plan the course ruthlessly before you start recording. When you do record the rule, I have learnt is that for a full day of recording, (8-10 hours) you should only expect to get one hour of usable material by the time you have finished editing. As you can see, this becomes a very long process and the only way I could create the course was by agreeing a monthly payment plan with MM so I could pay my bills and not starve. (Obviously after release I was also eligible for Royalty Payments).
That is how the iClone 6 Fundamentals Course got created. When it was completed, I went back to my normal day job as a VFX Supervisor/Consultant. The only way that an iClone 7 course could be created would be working under a similar arrangement or for some other way to present itself. (The latter has kind of happened so stay tuned).
So, this is why I disappeared off the radar, work would not allow the luxury of any spare time to work on another major course of this scale. And then life happened! Five years ago, I started to become gradually ill, it progressed over subsequent years until finally the medics over here in the UK figured out what was wrong with me. By the time of diagnosis, a huge toll had been taken on my body and due to my inability to work reliably on a daily basis I ended up losing my entire client base. I had to accept the reality of my situation and decided that the best thing was to retire from the industry I love. I finished my last commercial project back in October of 2019 and have not worked commercially since. This forum is not the place for medical stuff so I will simply use one word that most people will be familiar with. 'Cancer'.
The irony is that I now have a huge amount of time on my hands and I have been looking at doing more tutorials, I just have to find a way to managing things with my health as I am far from being out of the woods as they say. I do not want to embark on another massive course only to discover iClone 8 pop's out just as I am about to launch the iClone 7 version. We are due a road map for iClone any time soon so let's see what is on it.

Anyhow, that is it for me for now, if I think of anything else I will pop back and post.

Hey Alan, nice to hear from you...
Though the circumstances are not that nice.
Wish you all the best with your daily workaround having "cancer".
I bought your course way back and enjoyed it a lot!

Alan - What can I say ? .... I too am very sad to hear of your recent news. I can only say *try to rest-up* and do whatever it takes to alleviate stress - meditation - whatever ...... If you can get yourself into a 'good place' mentally and emotionally (as hard as it might seem), then your body's healing power can get to work - (which, I don't think should ever be underestimated) ....... I do wish you all the very best Alan ... Hope to hear more, and (as Prodos put it so well), wishing you "a return to heath and happiness" ......

Gentlemen,
Just a very quick personal thank you to you all for your kind words and thoughts. I appreciate it very much.
As a creatives I am sure you can all empathise when I say that I find being able to create digital art in any form is a therapeutic release. Although health does indeed come first I am working towards and looking forward to being able to sit in front of my workstation once again and create some art, in whatever form that may turn out to be.

Again, many thanks.

I too wish you a speedy recovery Alan,

I still revert back to the iC6 tutorials and can relate them pretty well with iC7's interface, it at least gives me enough information to find my way!

I can't thank you enough for all the hard work and dedication you put into it, and so I know that you have what it takes to beat this thing!

Looking forward to hearing from you here on the forums, I've missed your insight! Smile

iClone 6 - FUNDAMENTAL TRAINING VIDEOS:
Yes, I understand its commercial product, do you think it still has value?

Regarding all the other tutorials you mentioned, where can we find them? I can't see any links for that?!||

All the best!

Was curious to know how Alan was travelling with the iClone tutorials?
Steve.

this is only a demo preview? you actually have to buy the course right, or?

Hi Albin,

"Yes, I understand its commercial product, do you think it still has value?"

It is somewhat difficult for me to answer this question as I created the course and could therefore be accused of being positively biased just to get a sale. Smile What I would say is that other purchasers have commented that they still find aspects of the course useful even when using iClone 7. Having said that the jump between iC6 and iC7 is quite extensive and the most notable area where you might find the course lacking is the lighting and rendering due to the fact that iClone 7 implemented an HDR/PBR workflow which massively improved render quality over iClone 6. Of course that module does teach basic three point lighting which is a generic real-world standard used in live action film making and photography. I am sorry I cannot be more specific for you needs but I would point out that it is a Fundamentals Course and is designed for new users. If you are already a medium to power user of iClone you may not get much out of the course.

"Regarding all the other tutorials you mentioned, where can we find them? I can't see any links for that?!||"

This one has confused me as I did not mention any other tutorials, that huge list you quoted on Page 5 of this thread looks like it was created by Sonic7 and not by me, so I cannot help you with any links if that is what you are referring to, you would would need to ask Sonic 7.

All the best

The videos can be found on YouTube. Just search for the title to get to them.

For example, "Creating a Stylized 3D Character with iC7 & CC" gets you a page with links to the specific video as well as related ones.

Thanks!

Appreciate it, then I will find my way.-) I hope to create some fantastic stuff with the software, but right now I am just overwhelmed where to begin.

at least I have started to watch all the basic tutorials from reallusion on their website and also some more advanced stuff. Like Face key editing and just playing around learning the software.

Anyone who has experience with using Kinect Sensor V. 2.0? for PC using it to do animations? Do you recommend it?

is it recommended to start using Blender to make my own characters, props, etc first and try to for example replicate some scener from Toy Story to learn?

@AlbinosGambit

Regarding Blender 8.0, I am working on a feature film. In my experience, building basic structures in Blender is worth the effort. For example, I am just completing a casino lounge with stage where my main character's wife is singing. The advantage of building this room in Blender is that I can import it as one object, greatly reducing the load on my graphics card when animating.

As far as learning iClone, the advice I would provide based on my workflow, is this: have a project you want to complete. Any time you watch a tutorial, use it to complete some aspect of your project. This also helps in deciding which tutorials to select from the plethora of videos available.

Cheers,
Nathan
