I have been working on this for quite some time. I am trying to determine if I can make complicated objects in Sketchup to determine if it is worth the effort. I am now taking a course in Blender 2.8. After I finish the course I hope to see what kind of results I can get out of that system.

That's certainly an impressive looking car. You say this was done in SketchUp?

I got the original model from the warehouse. Then I used the warehouse model as a guide. Then I went about rebuilding the parts in SketchUp. I discovered that complicated objects can be built but you definitely need quite a few extensions. I am learning a lot about modeling every time I try to make a new object. I am using the free version of Sketchup 2017. Here is the dashboard that has a bit more detail. I built most of the individual parts or rebuilt the larger parts. Sketchup is not a solid modeler but you can still do a pretty good job of making solid looking objects.

Nice work! My only advice would be to ditch Sketchup and put in the time to learn Blender -- the interface is a nightmare, but it is free, extremely powerful, and exports into all popular formats (AFAIK). I avoided Blender for over a year, but ultimately it is the best tool I could find for free that allowed me to construct sets and props, import and modify library models, and export FBX and OBJ to 3DXchange (in fact the OBJ worked better than FBX). It also has powerful texturing facilities (I used a Sketchup library house, re-textured it and baked it in Blender and OBJ-ed it to 3DXchange with excellent results).
Start with some basic tutorials (coffee mugs and donuts) and you'll soon get the hang of it.
Good luck!

this is the car from american graffitti - 58' chevy impala ... very nice!
the chrome and glass textures could use some more tweaking the glass just needs opacity down a few notches and the chrome a bit more reflectivity if your recreating the actual car from the movie, it has stylized red stripes following the chrome

Looks really good.
Could you talk about how you did the textures? I love sketchup but struggle when it comes time to texture the models.
Thanks in advance. And again, looks really good.
