Cartoon Animator 4 - 360 Head Creator
Dear All
This WIP 2 shows how Reallusion breaks through the limitations of 2D Art, and delivers a practical way for 2D animators to create characters with advanced animation along with vivid expressions. The 360 evolution streamlines the workflow for Head Creation, Expression Setup, and directly to the animation core with face key editing, puppeteering and the timeline system. Apart from introducing a set of 360 assets and new professional animation library, users also have the path to convert existing content into 360 heads with a full range of motion.
With the new feature "360 Head Creator" of Cartoon Animator 4, you can easily turn a 2D art into a 3D animation. Find out what "Smart IK" can do.
Quickly Transform a 2D Face into a 3D Head

Cartoon Animator 4 - Smart IK
This WIP 1 demonstrates how Reallusion made 2D Character Animation more precise, powerful, yet more intuitive. Say goodbye to foot sliding, sinking or floating problems, the new Smart IK/FK system not only switches automatically, it makes creating amazing cartoon animation so much easier. Posing with locking end effectors gives you power to precisely animate characters with scene interaction. In addition, you can perfectly adapt motion files with different body shapes from our motion library, even fine-tune the character's stride or alter its motion genre.
Know More About Cartoon Animator 4
With the new feature "Smart IK" of Cartoon Animator 4, you can do IK/FK animation without actually learning the complex concept and it takes only 1/4 of the time what other animation software needed. Find out what "Smart IK" can do.
- Smart IK (Inverse Kinematic)
- Easy IK Editing: No more foot sliding, sinking, or floating problems. Easy-locking feet and hands for unlimited motion possibilities.
- Intuitive Auto IK/FK Switch: Drag-and-move end effectors for IK editing, directly rotate joins for FK editing. Other animation software may take hours to do this, Cartoon Animator needs only end effector on/off clicks.
- Stretch Animation: Enable animation creation with more diversity by freely extend any character’s end segments - head, hands and feet.
- Precise Scene and Prop Interaction: Works for all kind of motion behavior. Lock hands and feet to precisely interact with scene objects.
- Works with All Kinds of Cartoon Characters: Correct backward knee bend animation for quadruped animals.
- Smart Motion Retargeting
- Adapt Motions to any Character Scale: Works with all Template-based Motion - human biped, quadruped, wings, spine bone.
- Creative IK Motion Varieties: Auto-align character bones to the Motion Data pose, regardless of the character’s initial pose setting.
- Create IK Rig
- Auto IK Rig: Imported Photoshop Template Characters will have IK rig automatically to save creation time. Still, you have the freedom to add IK locks to selected bone segments.
- Custom GUI: Snapshot a character with a custom pose to create a Character Rig GUI.
Let me show you what Reallusion team had created with this new feature. THIS IS ONLY SHARED TO FORUM MEMBERS, YOU ARE THE ONLY ONES TO SEE THEM. Welcome to spread.

Looks like you can customize your own animated stickers with Cartoon Animator.

It's still early days and not yet confirmed, but like CTA3 you will likely just need an image editor compatible with PSD files and layers.

Why December 2018? I purchased Crazy Talk Animater 3 the day before yesterday. And I bought additional content today.
Unfortunately there has to be a start date and there will always be some customers who purchase just before a new promotion starts.
However if you have any concerns, please contact Customer Support and they will be able to help you with any questions about eligibility for this pre-order promotion.
Note: Any content you purchase will still be usable in Cartoon Animator 4.

jann (11/28/2018) Looking great! But the pricing is very confusing!! What is the upgrade price from CAT3 to CA4?
This is a pre-order promotion aimed primarily at new customers.
Existing CTA users can either buy the required amount of content to get a free copy of Cartoon Animator 4, or can just upgrade in the normal way once CTA4 is released.

Creating a G3 character wearing a long dress is very challenging. Hopefully, CTA4 resolves the issue. Will the CTA4 characters still be sitting like the CTA3 characters? eg.

Sounds interesting. I'll wait after the pre-sale period ends. I'm not the only one to wonder what the costs of upgrade will be for the CTA3 owners. And how about face motion capture for, say, android or windows? For now, it works only on iPhone, and even with iPhone, not all models are included.

Hi...
Importing full body 3D mocap motions for G2 characters will still be possible but not for the G4 characters. However more options for facial mocap for G4 characters will be included in CTA4.

My suggestion is to make the program able to animate additional sprites for each body parts. For example: CTA3 can only animate a single 'hip' sprite. Additional one is not working. Hopefully, this will happen to CTA3 also.

I had reach out for support and just have got the answers as bellow: ................................................
Dear Sovann,
Thank you for contacting Reallusion.
There are three possibilities to get your CTA4:
1. If you purchase Pro or Pipeline Bundle Packages you will get a Free Upgrade to CTA4 in 2019.
2. If you purchase content in Dec. with an accumulated value of $299, you will get free CTA4 Pipeline.
3. Upgrade with special member price after CTA4 official launch in 2019 Apr.
https://www.reallusion.com/cartoon-animator/smart-ik-animation.html#pre-sale
Since you already have CTA3 Pro, I would suggest you either choose solution 2 or 3.
To take advantage of our content accumulation ($299) event, please see the content offers provided in our Content Store: https://www.reallusion.com/contentstore/2d-animation.html
Please feel free to let us know if you have any further questions.
Best Regards Jana Technical Support Reallusion Inc. ..................................... Hope that help!! Sovann

Affinity Photo and Designer should work fine with the PSD templates just as they do now with CTA3 Pipeline.

As it stands now you don't qualify because the promotion started on the 28th November.
So the best thing to do is contact Customer Support and request a refund. Then purchase again and you will qualify for a free copy of Cartoon Animator 4 Pipeline. :)

RE: Cartoon Animator 4 (vs. CTA 3) - It is always amazing to me how software companies / developers will literally stand on their head to recruit NEW customers and virtually give away NEW product, but for those of us who have supported Reallusion for many MANY! years - we get crumbs.
While this may seem like "sour grapes" or software envy it really isn't, BUT it does leave one to ponder why is it those who have been the consumer backbone of companies like Reallusion with loyalty, promotion >> of product to both clients and artists alike, just to be in essence "taken for granted" for that support.
I have no issue with Reallusion placing a "price" on a worthy upgrade - but it should be evenly distributed across the board. For example, I have invested time and MONEY in supporting and touting the merits of Reallusion products. I have purchased their applications, their after market content, as well as to offer personal and professional examples of the product's potential and use, along with constructive commentary in an effort to "make an improved" specialty product (Reallusion software). I dare say, to the point of collectively spending considerably more (over time) than what the NEW customer has to spend to "qualify" for the free Animator update / product (vers. 4).
I felt slighted when Reallusion offered Motion (facial) capture albeit with a caveat >> in that it will only work with an iPhone - anyone with an Android product was left on an island. Now as improved as Reallusion products have evolved, "GIFTS" are being showered on all NEW comers, but the rest of the "community" is in essence, being told, "oh, I'm sorry - this promotion doesn't apply to you.
In reading some of the comments tonight - I think it is rather callous of Reallusion to MAKE someone who supposedly missed an artificial "start date" by a day or two have to jump through hoops to qualify for the Cartoon Animator 4 give-a-way. Internally, Reallusion knew what was coming and when the announcement was going to "drop". Just a little forethought would have minimized the confusion and alienation being felt by these NEW customers to the Reallusion product line.
AND one last thought - If Reallusion already has a firm price (and advertised) on the new version I am almost certain, they have a pretty good idea what the upgrade price model will be as well - even at this stage of development. Reallusion products are impressive and technically sound - however their "people skills" need some work. Just Sayin'...
Oh... Something else to consider - all of these so-called "features" as seen in the teaser preview video - can I assume then that while "technically" CTA 3 (pipeline) works, when compared to the new "Version 4", CTA 3 is at best, an out-dated and inferior product and what we thought (and promoted by Reallusion) as "cutting edge" technology, was in reality, just an interim solution - a stop gap measure, perhaps a "BETA" version; while the "kinks" were being worked out in this "Version 4 update". And how clever of Reallusion to give the core product a NEW name to justify the perception of a NEW product, versus one that has been "fixed" and void of major technical issues, as experienced by many loyal end-users.

Really looking forward to the new CTA4. Hopefully the developers will take the opportunity to introduce a 'dark mode' option for the UI, now becoming more common and particularly important with large hi-res screens where a light coloured UI can be very glaring.

Existing users can either purchase $299 worth of content during December to get a FREE copy of Cartoon Animator 4, or simply upgrade for a special price when CTA4 is release next year. Peter,
I DO appreciate your reply. Thank you. I am NOT being argumentative, I was simply pointing out a perception that has been around for a number of years regarding Reallusion's efforts to recruit new customers. Obviously, Reallusion has the right to take whatever path they choose. I merely was pointing out a consumer's perspective each time there is a product announcement / launch.
I am fully aware that (as has been Reallusion's practice) an UPGRADE price will be made available to existing product users. I assumed that with my initial response to Reallusion. I was simply voicing one consumer's opinion as it applied to how one might feel with these so-called promotions.
In all likelihood, when Version 4 becomes available I WILL support the new product and purchase an upgrade. That really wasn't my point. I appreciate the strides and advances Reallusion has put forth, I really do - BUT I still feel Reallusion should be a bit more flexible with how they treat their client base. Again, I will reference the case of several users who posted their frustration with having to request a refund and RE-purchase the bundle in order to receive the product update at little or no cost. As an experienced e-commerce developer, this should NOT be required or made to place the responsibility on the consumer to make it right. Frankly, without these same individuals willing to put their faith (and dollar) in YOUR product - Reallusion would cease to exist.
Again, I am merely offering a reasonable perspective, while respecting Reallusion's business model and opinion on this matter. Thanks again, Peter for your reply.

Yes, there wasn't an ability to record our custom animations for the G3 characters, we had to key frame all of the animations ,I was thinking along the lines of Iclone's Direct Puppet's ability to record our own custom body movements.
The same with free bone characters and items, its nice to be able to preview the movements in real time in composer mode but why not a way to record the movements instead of having to key frame everything.

Just 1 thing
I wrote few times telling about what I consider a bug in your program
I work as software developer for another company
it is about the exportation of the animation in video
I wrote again a short >>
I set an animation like opening a door (is a good example to understand the situation)
1 - then you click 3D button and you set the camera perspective 2 - you play the animation and you see a door opening from a side perspective (perfect ! ) 3 - you go to export the animation to video. the result is a video playing from front side view, it doesn't respect what program is really showing you (total fail ! )
4 - I sincerely think if the program can do it then when you export you should have an option to front view or custom perspective (or similar configuration)
I am owner of CTA 3 Pipeline and I will consider upgrade to CTA 4 if at least that had been solved

Hi Taka
3D View in CTA is only for setting the Z Axis values of objects in your scene. Crazytalk Animator is 2D software, and so the view is always from the front (like viewing a painting). If you want to see objects at different angles in CTA, then they need to be drawn or created that way to start with. You can't use the camera to view objects in your scene at different angles.
Really to have this kind of 3D functionality you will be better working in a full 3D environment using iClone which supports using toon characters.

Thanks for explaining more. I will pass on your request to the CTA team for consideration. :)

Hi there, This looks very interesting and I will look forward to seeing the new version. But I just wanted to ask if you are thinking of going back to 360 degree characters like you had in CrazyTalk2? Also would it be possible for you to develop some more 'off the shelf' characters to buy that are...how do I put this...attractive cartoon characters? Sorry but the current ones are really awful and very limited. I work for a large organisation and we need good quality characters in all different styles of dress, with suits for office workers, with casual wear, different ethnic types, all sorts of characters. The standard ones just don't cover it, are unattractive and have silly bouncy walks. There was more choice with the old G1 and G2 characters. Many thanks, Sara

I recently bought CTA3 to work primarily with 3D motions and G2 characters. I’m wondering which of the following new features in CTA4 might work with G2 characters:
-Customize Elastic Motion Effects -Smooth Head Turn/G4 360 Head Creator -Smart IK Animation -Custom End Effectors for Free Bone Characters -Motion Retargeting
Can a smooth turning G4 head be put on a G2 body?
I’m assuming... - Custom IK Rig GUI/ Photoshop Design Pipeline (PSD import/export) ... won’t work with G2’s. Is that correct?
How about: - Plug-in Facial Motion Capture Will it be useable with G2 characters directly or via G4 heads on G2 bodies?
Thanks!

I have Crazy Talk Animator 3 Pipeline (purchased as Presale with CTA2). From what I can gather from the Reallusion website, if I spend USD $150 (on sale) to rebuy CTA3, I'll get Cartoon Animator 4 upon release, or, I spend USD $299 in content (which I have previously purchased, so don't need any more), and get CA4 upon release? Can you tell me if the above is correct, and is there going to be and upgrade price for CTA3 owners?

Hi...
You will get a free copy of Cartoon Animator 4 Pipeline if you buy one of the qualifying Crazytalk Animator 3 Pipeline BUNDLES (see below). Just purchasing CTA 3 Pipeline on its own again won't get you a free copy of CTA4 Pipeline. However as you already have CTA3 Pipeline you may prefer to wait and just upgrade to CTA4 Pipeline when it is released.

If you have the Windows version of CTA3, then you can export in Sequence Image PNG format and this will give you a transparent background. You can then load the Sequence Images into your video editor ready for compositing. If you have the Mac version, then you can export using the ProRes 4444 video option and this will include an alpha channel.

CrazyTalk Animator already has Composer mode which is very much a 2D character creator system. For example for our G2 characters you have a library of heads, uppers, lowers and shoes that can be mixed and matched to create a huge variety of custom characters. Plus for G3 characters you can send these back and forth to your image editing software for custom creation and to change clothing, add accessories etc (Pipeline version).

As usually, newcomers ( those who buy CTA 3 now) get the newest version for free. Those who have been using CTA 3 for a while, will have to buy an upgrade. That's business. I wonder, though, what the member price might be when the software is released ?

Looks great but I really hope you lower the price for folks who own CTA 2 and CTA 3. Seems like you introduced the idea of 3d head and body movement in CTA 2 but these don't work on G3 characters (i wondered why this wasn't launched for CTA 3 characters). In addition we were able to change strides with sliders in CTA 2 but these also don't work on G3 characters vice versa and it seems like something similar is coming to CTA4. I feel that if you make a new version you should also update the characters made by reallusion so that they are compatible. For example I bought all these animations for G2 characters that I can't use for G3 characters. Sometimes I want my G3 character to behave like a G2 character (changing 3d angles of character) but its not possible without making the character all over to work like a G2 character. I'm not complaining but I feel more folks will purchase your character content if they know that it will be compatible without hassle on future versions of your software. I would be really happy if my purchased G3 characters are updated for all these G4 features such as 360 degree head turn, and smart IK, etc. Please don't take my post as negative but something to think about when you launch new versions of your software. I love your software and I'm looking forward to see all the new features in CTA 4.
Thank you!

Thanks for replying to my questions about G2 in CTA4 kylelee.
Peter, can you tell us if a few of the new features in CTA4 will work with G2 characters? Specifically:
- Smart IK (Inverse Kinematic) - Intuitive Auto IK/FK Switch - Stretch Animation - Smart Motion Retargeting - Facial Motion Capture
These are exciting additions and it would be great if they worked with G2's.
I bought CTA3 Pipeline a couple of days before CTA4 was announced, and can still return it to buy the bundle version that includes the upgrade to CTA4. But the bundle is an extra $130 and I'm trying to figure out whether it's contents and CTA4's new features will be useful to me (I originally bought the non-bundle pipeline as I figured I would center my work around G2, not G3).
Having spent a large amount of money in the Reallusion store in November, I'm trying to make an educated and economically responsible choice. Knowing which new features work with which generation of characters would help guide my choice.
Thanks so much.

Hi Artstar,
I absolutely agree with you and this is what I also find frustrating with the software and it's upgrades. There doesn't seem to be a consistent approach when the software is developed and a thought for the users of the software and how they are going to work with the new version. I am all for new features but it's important to try to make them compatible with previous versions. So far I have not used this software for work jobs. I have dabbled with it but the characters in CT3 are very unattractive and wouldn't work for the sort of animations we would use them for. I also don't have a lot of time to develop my own so having a good selection of well drawn off the shelf characters to buy would be brilliant. I feel Reallusion are missing a trick...or several tricks here.
The other thing is that the demos need to use good quality characters and not silly hand drawn stick men. This has got better in more recent videos but those characters are still available in the software for some reason. It seems they are aiming it at amateurs not professionals.
But having said all of that I also don't want to be too negative as in general I think the software is really good and has a lot of potential for me to use it.

Thank you for the feedback.
All previous characters and motions you may have purchased will still be usable in CTA4 when applied to the correct generation of characters. It is understandable that many users see the next generation of characters as being replacements for the previous generation but that is not really the case. Each generation has their own style and features. For example if you wish to work with characters that can be rotated 360 degrees and use 3D animations then G2 is the way to go. However if you want easy to create and customise characters that can use the "Elastic Motion" system then G3 is the better choice. It really all depends on your needs and the style you wish to work in.

sara.hack (12/11/2018) But can you customize G2 in the same way you can customize G3? Maybe I have missed a feature there...
G2 characters are fully customisable using the "mix and match" system. So for example you can choose a different head, hair, upper clothing, lower clothing and shoes etc to create an almost unlimited number of different characters without needing to touch an image editor or have artistic skills. And the more G2 add-on packs you buy the more content you will have in your G2 wardrobe to give you even more options.
Please se the video below for an example of how they can be customised with add-on packs.

sara.hack (12/11/2018) OK thank you but are they fully customiseable in the same way that the G3 ones are using a Photoshop template?
Because G2 characters are multi-angle they are more difficult to create from scratch (hence the mix and match system). However for those who do want to invest time in creating their own characters we do supply a Flash template and a DrawPlus template but not a Photoshop PSD template.

Most of the new animation features coming in CTA4 will apply to our latest generation characters only. Because G2 characters are multi-angle they use their own 2D and 3D Motion Key editors for animation. However facial motion capture will be available for G2 character heads.

Unfortunately this is really a case of the old adage "you can't please all the people all of the time".
When we introduced multi angle G2 characters, the general response was that they are great but it takes too long and requires too much effort to create custom characters.
So with G3 characters we prioritised making them easy to create but to do this we had to lose the multi angle aspect. This is because multi angle characters are always going to be much harder to create with a longer creation time because of the sheer number of parts required. This is unavoidable unfortunately.
Because of this dilemma having both options available seems the best, if not a perfect solution for now. :)

Hi, I'm completely new to CTA. I bought the Pipeline version through the special offer last month and have been interested in creating some characters for a YouTube series I'm interested in making. However, I'm struggling with what can and can't be done with the different Generations. With CTA4, can we mix some of the new technologies into G2 characters? Like Mesh warping and 360 head turn? Will there be an efficient way to develop G2 characters other than the G2 template? (I don't consider the composer efficient just convenient for small changes) May be support for an SVG template? Thanks.
James
PS: Sorry if some of these questions have obvious answers. I just don't have the experience yet. :(

Can't wait for CA4!! LOVE the new name!!... It sounds sooo much more professional.
Fun Fact: A lot of my work comes from government grants and contracts, however they'd never get approved with the word "Crazytalk" anywhere in the list of resources, so I've actually been calling it "Cartoon Animator" for the past 3 years already, LOL
But, I'm so excited, I'm busting to ask; ... will the new features include: * ability to rename our custom image layers in the scene manager? * ability to render animated gifs & swfs with & without clear backgrounds so we can use them in websites and powerpoint presentations again? * ability to render videos in 4K (3840x2160), same as we can in iClone? (Not just pngs from CTA3, as at present.) * ability to use a wider range of swfs from any source? (not just adobe) * ability to see the hierarchy of linked props in the Scene Manager, same as we can in iClone? * ability to save avatars and props which have sub-props/accessories attached, same as we can in iClone? * ability to adjust the colour of popvideos/MP4s etc that are dragged in as props, same as we can in iClone? * ability to adjust/trim/loop video textures of props in the timeline, same as we can in iClone? (the video track seems to be missing from props in CTA3) * ability to take better thumbnail snapshots for our custom assets, like we can in iClone, instead of having so much wasted white space? * ability to hide the scratch area behind a wide dark grey/black frame/border to help visualise the finished scene easier, while still being able to click and move each asset while it's out of frame? * ability to move assets, even when their visibility is switched off? & ability to change the pivot points for everything - as easily as we can in iClone with 1 click - without having to do so much messing around so we can also resize/tumble/spin everything so much faster?

The basic functionality will be the same but there will be some differences between the two systems that will be explained nearer to release. However to clarify one point, the release of the Facial Mocap Plug-in for CTA4 is currently scheduled for Q2 2019 and not available at launch.

Good to know thanks - was just wondering whether it's worth saving up for an iphone (or ipad) with truedepth camera or not. If you say there are some differences then my guess is that it would logically work better with the truedepth camera than a webcam, so for the best results it probably makes sense getting the iphone - though of course won't know for sure for a few months!

Hello there! I wonder why the character cannot move 360 degree on CA4 since now has been introduced the 360 degree head!
I'm still not satisfied with the release of this new product that imho has no big improvement to justify a new release BUT I would be totally fine with it if I could finally have a full 360 degree movement but guess what? I can do it only with the head! I always feel you make one step ahead and one back. I'm sure that the 60 degree movement of character could be achieved as well as the 360 degree head.

I have to agree with this sentiment. I'm surprised that the ability to have G3 characters naturally turn to different angles has not been a implemented for CA4. Just adding this feature would be worthy enough for a new product release. Right now, CA4 looks cool but the fact that it's missing something as basic and foundational as rotating character body angles is extremely disappointing and makes any animation created with CA4 limited.

Making the head "appear" to be 3D by translating, masking, swapping, etc. layers around may seem simple since CTA in some ways already had some of these features, I suspect it required some effort to rework those features. Also a lot of effort looks to be put into wrapping it all together into an easy to use composer as they have done. From my experience, that's no easy task. Also, making a single joint seem to rotate is a lot different than a complete body. The complete body of a G3 character appears to be a single piece of artwork that is bent by mesh warping. Without segmenting the body into pieces again like the G2 characters and drawing each joint from various angles, it won't be easy to rotate an individual part to get complete 3D movement. And then we're back to whining about why it takes so much effort to draw a multi-angle character and why the character doesn't animate as smoothly as a G3.
I'll take the head improvements and hope that the same smooth animation can be extended to the body later on. It looks awesome to me. If I need multi-angle movement, I'll use a G2 character for now.

Hello, a question to the Reallusion Masterminds,
this is my idea:
A combination of 2G movements with the 3G character. In this case the 2G figure is the skeleton of the 3G toon. So I create the animation first and then it has to be possible to link between the skeleton and the pictures from 3G. Of course we need the pictures for the whole turn around too.
Happy programming...

I'd like to make a feature request to improve the text in thought bubbles and titling in CTA4. I'm very excited about the animation improvements in these demos and can't wait to put it to use...but sometimes you need a character to say or think something with text on screen, and I hope that CTA4 might have some room in the development efforts to address text and titling.
One of my biggest gripes about CTA3 is that the text is fuzzy when inserting a bubble or subtitle from the SFX Text menu. The text is much more pixelated than the surrounding graphics, so it really sticks out and I end up having to use another tool outside of CTA3 when I need text in a project. The border of a Thought bubble or Speaking bubble is also more jagged than other graphics, so this feature as a whole could really use some attention.
Improving the clarity of the text would make me very happy, and would allow me to do more of my video annotations right inside of CTA. But even better would be if animation behaviors could be applied to text titles as well. Being able to slide-in, fade-in, bounce-in, etc. text that is defined directly into the application would be a huge time saver! Right now, if I want text to get fancy, I have to create the text as an image and then can apply special animation behaviors to the image...but that is very time consuming and a pain to switch between applications. If I could apply the animation behaviors that are already available in CTA for an image to be applied to text, I would be a very happy camper!
Not only would this feature request would be a huge boost to my own productivity in CTA, I think it would make CTA more attractive to more marketing professionals. Being able to display text in a compelling way within a video is very important to me as a marketer, especially for videos intended for social media where some statistics show upwards of 80% of videos are watched with the audio turned off. Highlighting key points in text on-screen has become a necessity in this industry.
Here's an example of a frame preview from CTA3 where you can see that the text is fuzzy in Comic, Realistic, and Subtitle objects:

Hi, I'm looking to use CTA for business.
Mostly I'm hoping to use animation to communicate with people who learn visually.
So as an example I might explain (via voiceover) that a particular nutrient improves the brain the digestive system. In my animation I would want to put a sort of light around the brain and the digestive system.
So this would require me to have a way to overlay some sort of light circle on parts of my image. From the training I've seen, I don't know how I could do this now in cta3 let alone the new program. [EDIT: In the help doc I just discovered a 'reduce opacity' animation for props that will let me do this! I somehow also just discovered an "import compound prop" on a Pipeline help page that might also allow this. Your main videos don't cover this prop stuff which I have to dig for.]
Anyway, I'm mostly going to animate props (ideas, stats, symbols) that I have drawn myself.
Would the new CTA4 have any improvements for people like me? ---

Thank you for the feedback. The CTA team will look to improve on this and have added it to the "to do" list.
For now, if you have the Pipeline version you can use the PSD import options to bring in your own text bubbles.

frankly I like the program. I see no reason it couldn't be used in tv program. Hope fully the 360 degree heads can be connected to past types of figure too as that would be a big plus, and eventually I predict that same tech will be expanded to the whole body/object, but they just need time. one step at a time I suppose.

Hi,
Reallusion started recently a 'Before CA4 launch-content-sale' (their words, give or take) which is due to end on the 25th of April. As per the title of this sale, this means that CA4 should be released between the 26th and the 30th of April.
The developer also confirmed there are no delays with the release so, the above estimate should be fairly accurate.
Thank you.

Hi...
I did pass on your feedback to the CTA team and they would like to assure you that multi-angle characters have not been abandoned completely. For now, the priority is to have a character creation system that makes it easy for everyone to be able to create their own custom characters. However, the team will continue to look at ways to make multi-angle characters easier to create for everyone, and will certainly consider reintroducing a new generation of multi-angle characters at some point in the future if a solution can be found.

Curious about the MOCAP software that was apart of the CTA 4 schedule (but sold separately). I haven't heard any more news about this and hope that this will be available the 29th as well? I cant wait to see if this will be a viable solution and also if there are particular webcams that the software works with.

People, my mental health is at stake here... and my heart might give out. It's the 29th and no Cartoon Animator 4. We are using the western calendar I hope:). Now speaking seriously, there appears to be a delay. I figure there was either a) a problem they're fixing at the last minute to make sure ca4 it top notch, b) Everybody worked so hard on CA4 they couldn't wake up this morning:) or c) there was a huge last minute response to the cta3 purchase with upgrade offer -take advantage of that if you don't own it by the way!. If it's a) it is what it is and I'm sure they're doing their best. Still like to know. If it's c) they might have a conundrum as who wouldn't want to let ppl get the offer to get cta3 and receive the upgrade. If this is the case my suggestion would be to go ahead and release CT4 if it's ready, but still allow people that don't own cta3 to take advantage of the old offer for a couple of days. I would make both ppl that own cta3 and those that don't, happy too.

I've seen that people have been playing with the Beta versions some time ago as a video was referenced. Let's hope there's an update posted soon and all features are available on day one or soon after as it's not right charging for features that haven't been implemented yet.
Here's hoping they look after their customers who have V1, 2 and 3 (some of us haven't had V3 that long really). :) Really hope V4 lives up to expectations and isn't too difficult to grasp. :)

Yes, so am I. I don't think Peter from RL will come here evryday saying there is a new 24 hours delay :-) We'll probably get it in the afternoon of April 30th in Americas, during the night of 30th to May 1st in Europe and in the morning of May 1st in Asia.

The website has been updated, evrybody can now upgrade. CA4 is really a very promising tool for 2D animation. Pipeline version is at a reasonnable price, even for the other bundles it price is OK, but I find expensive the all in one version (mandatory if you want to use Apple Face ID function) - $449 !!
We are clearly moving to a professional grade software.

Hi... The Live Face function in CTA3 was only a facial mocap solution that worked with iPhone X. However to provide a complete and powerful live performance system in CTA4 we needed a new mocap platform that will offer more possibilities (for body, hands etc.) in the future. That is why we developed the Motion LIVE 2D Plug-in, Face3D profile, and LIVE FACE (iPhone) profile. Furthermore, since CTA4 has the 360 Head Creator function, the facial mocap data through 2D Motion LIVE to CTA4 can also now display up to 360° angle definition. However, as not everyone needs these live performance features, we have made it into an optional plug-in so only users that need this solution, will be required to pay for it.
In the meantime, CTA3 Pro and Pipeline users can still use the Live Face function in CTA3 to do facial motion capture and import the motion data to CTA4. This motion data is compatible with both CTA3 and CTA4.
Please note: The motion data recorded in CTA3 does not have 360° angle definition.

I'm feeling very undervalued as a customer. Correct me if I'm wrong but at the time of writing new customers can get CTA 4 with the Mocap plugin for $249. Existing customers get it for $219.. As a customer who's had V3 for less than 8 months it feels poor and this is from someone who worked in the software publishing industry for over 12 years. $30 saving is a bit mean and I too thought web cam functionality would be included. At least let us get $50 which is 25 percent.... you can't tell me there is 80 percent new code since the last build of V3.
I'm feeling very disillusioned not reallusioned at the moment. If you'd have been kinder it'd have been a no brainer but now I will have to try the trial and really consider my purchase. Do you sell the plugins separately and how much are they as it doesn't feel like we're saving on them being loyal customers?
Product looks great though and it's just a shame about the above dampening some of our enthusiasm.

Hi...
In the launch sale, the CTA4 Facial Mocap Bundle price for new customers is $269, not $249. That means existing customers are saving $50.
Currently, you can also purchase the Motion LIVE 2D plug-in and Face3D profile (Webcam mocap) separately for $99 but you will normally always save money buying a bundle.

At the risk of sounding argumentative. We should NOT be paying for something we already had in a previous release (even if it was allegedly less capable), retaining the old version to fill the gap is a nonsense. in the product roadmap we have been seeing for many months, the mocap features were never listed as optional extras.. I'll say no more

Sorry Peter, Happy to be wrong.
If you install the trial version of CTA 4 and goto upgrade (I'm not logged in as it opens a different browser). On the upgrade page the upgrade price is clearly $249 for the mo cap and Pipeline. (you save $149)
I'm pretending to be a new regular customer here and this is what I see on my screen. Also it's not really a trial when you can't record using the mo cap just see a preview. The icons are the same as previous versions and it just feels a bit rushed sadly. Again saving $30 over a regular customer doesn't feel fair to me. At $199 or below I wouldn't be typing here I'd have gone for it and felt like a valued customer and wear my facebook badge with pride.

Redspark (4/30/2019) When I log in and go to Buy CTA4, my price is $149. I purchased in December during the sale that was suppose to get CTA4 for free. Am I trying to upgrade the wrong way? Thanks.
James
Hi James
As I mentioned to another user, the buy CTA3 get CTA4 FREE offer applied to purchases of qualifying bundles from the Reallusion Store. The offer did not apply to purchases of just CrazyTalk Animator 3 Pro or Pipeline on its own. If you only purchased CrazyTalk Animator 3 Pipeline on its own and not part of one of the qualifying bundles, then sadly you won't be entitled to free copy of Cartoon Animator 4.

The buy CTA3 get CTA4 FREE offer applied to purchases of qualifying bundles from the Reallusion Store. The offer did not apply to purchases of just CrazyTalk Animator 3 Pro or Pipeline on their own. It had to be one of the special bundles that were listed in the Reallusion Store during the promotion.
I have to say, that I didn't find that very clear from the promotion. I clicked on the promotion and bought CTA3 Pipeline specifically for the free upgrade. If CT3 Pipeline was not a qualifying option, why was it on the purchase page at all? As a first time buyer, that was clearly confusing. You have to make these things idiot proof or idiots like me won't get it. ;)
I did purchase the Motion library and the G2 Power Tools afterward but I don't suppose that counts towards it. :(

scribbley3rd (4/30/2019) Sorry Peter, Happy to be wrong.
As I mentioned in a previous post, prices can vary slightly due to past purchases and there are often special offers being run such as offers for trial users. The price of $269 is the price a new customer would pay who is visiting the Reallusion Store for the first time.

If CT3 Pipeline was not a qualifying option, why was it on the purchase page at all?
The purchase page of the Store lists all products for sale which is why CTA3 Pipeline was listed on its own. However, those bundles that included a free copy of CTA4 were clearly marked.
What I would suggest is that you perhaps contact Customer Support and explain that you did purchase other products but not as part of a bundle. They will then be able to let you know if you qualified for a free copy of CTA4. Please use the Support Form below to contact them. Thanks.

CTA4 has the 360 Head Creator function is this working on the trial version? I cannot see how it is accessed or any specific tutorials? So how do we know if this function is a workable solution. I also think the upgrades seem to be very expensive. Especially as an elite member

Hello, I recently purchased CTA3 Pro in your store for a promotion: "Cartoon Animator 4 Pro can be obtained free of charge when you buy CTA3 Pro (US $ 99) at the Reallusion store." Now I have difficulty with poor English, and I can’t find my free copy of Cartoon Animator 4 Pro. I will be very grateful to you if you help me figure out where I can download my copy. Thanks you. And one more question, with Cartoon Animator 4 Pro, can I import files from Photoshop? Or do I need a Pipeline version for this?

Hi...
As I mentioned to others, the buy CTA3 get CTA4 FREE offer applied to purchases of qualifying bundles from the Reallusion Store. The offer did not apply to single purchases of just CrazyTalk Animator 3 Pro or Pipeline. If you only purchased CrazyTalk Animator 3 Pro on its own and not part of one of the qualifying bundles, then sadly you won't be entitled to free copy of Cartoon Animator 4.
If you have any concerns about this, please contact Customer Support using the link below. They will then be able to confirm for you if you qualified for a free copy of CTA4. Thanks.

I was looking at this too trying to work out how we go about setting up a 360 head on a new custom character. I am also struggling with the upgrade price being around 80 percent of the product to new customers. I looked in help to look at what's new and if it's all worth nearly the entire price of the product again in less than a year. Maybe send an email to sales? :)
I'm glad that $30 is a slight amount of money to some but to others it can make a difference if you can easily save it being a new customer :) I'm always for the customer :)
