I have been wondering what method or technique have people used for laser shots. Here is a demo using a cylinder attached to the gun. This cylinder has a cool glow map and I am controlling visibility with an on off command for about 20 frames. Since I am using GI the character lights up briefly while the laser is being shot. The benefit of this method is that it is not that labor intensive, I can animate the scene and then go one by one and add where the laser shots will fire. Are there any better methods out there that can look like this? Maybe easier?

Yeah, on the first frame you can set the color for thew cylinder and glow and that's it....
