I just read that Iray will be released next month in December and I have a few questions.

Does anyone know the actual day of the release?

Will Iray for IClone 7 need to be bought separately at an extra price from the Character Creator version now available?

Will no particle effects at all be compatible with it? I mean as in not just Popcorn FX but also particles and special effects made before it in the marketplace?

No - it's the same PlugIn

No.
I am sure even Reallusion does not yet know the actual day.
Hopefully it's in December, not January.

Most importantly, I want it to be release-worthy when they release it (even if that means it slips to early or mid-Janauary).

The second half of December is the plan but of course that will depend on final testing completing without no serious issues.

@Peter....if you need any testers.....me. me. me. me.

I'll be fitting an evga rtx2080ti xc ultra into my pc tonight.......if that'll help sway your answer?

That would be really interesting IF Iray gets RTX support. I believe that's been rumored.

I'm contemplating upgrading an older PC to become a rendering engine, but I'm sort of waiting for specifics on whether RTX is worth it. It WILL be an expensive upgrade...:crying:

I hear a rumor (more like a question) about Iray having RTX support in spring 2019.

IF (and I repeat "IF") that is true, it will take time for Reallusion to update the plug-in with a new version of Iray, IF they decide it is worth their time and effort, so that would easily take us into summer of 2019.  Even that is only IF Nvidia stays on track with that rumored timeline.  A lot of "IF" statements.

I would not use that as the basis for any buying decision.

What is RTX?

And what about my question about the particles and special effects?
By justaviking - 7 Years Ago
RTX:
In short, it is a new graphics card architecture that focuses on accelerating ray tracing calculations.  Through a clever combination of ray tracing (reflections, shadows, ambient occlusion) and traditional rasterized rendering (colors and other stuff), Nvidia has been able to demonstrate "real time ray tracing" and some games are starting to support it.  Do not expect iClone to support RTX any time soon.

PARTICLES:
The last I remember hearing, "particles" are not supported in Iray.  Not the first release of the plug-in, I'm not sure about future updates.  They also announced limitations with SpeedTree and some Terrains.  Some of these are expected to come later, but I don't recall the exact details.

Currently SpeedTrees, Height Map Terrains, Water and Particles (PopCornFX etc.) are not supported in Iray renders. Support for SpeedTrees and Height Map terrains is scheduled for a future update.

I mean will special effects listed as props made in the marketplace not be compatible with Iray either?

If you saw Dennis & Peter's last replies, the answer on Particle effects is a "no" unless something pops up to support particle effects in iRay later. Currently PROPS can be rendered in iRay simply by attaching that prop to the character and send to CC3 for rendering
