Hello everyone,
as you all know, im working on a complete training series for iclone 4. The next class will be animation, and it will happen on February 13th 2010. I am taking my time on this because there is so much to cover in Iclone, but I also want to make sure that I cover areas where people are getting stuck at.

So where are you getting stuckon when it comes to animation? :P

cheers,

Stuckon3d

PS: the more feedback you give me, the better the class will be.

Although I noticed an improvement in IC4, I still have problems with feet not staying in place when they should when combining motions, or even during the duration of a clip.  I usually try to compensate for that by using the Transform track, but it's not very elegant.  Test01 was trying to make a squat from a standing position and had to do the whole thing in reverse to make it work.

Another thing I would like to know more about is an effective use of the AML editor.

And then there is of course the enigma of the proper use of transition curves.

Mmm, I will have to sign up now, don't I?

I'd like to know if there are ways to ensure that accessories track body motions. I rely upon shims to patch structural weakness in the iClone avatars, and it's critical that these stay in place.

Do we have an estimated time of arrival for a set of training DVDs? That might appeal to some of us who haven't tuned into the online classes.

I'M interested!

Hello guys/gals,
I want to thank everyone for the wonderful feedback, and I'll try to incorporate some of these issues in the lessons, and show how to trouble shoot it. Please keep them coming. I' m sure reallusion is reading this thread. ;)

Here's one: I am ignorant about using Absolute / Relative animation. I know what absolute and relative means, but I don't know how to really use it, and when.

This would be a biggie.

Im am in for the class. :)

hello everyone,
I really hoped that my cold would be over by now but it has gotten worse and my voice is almost gone, so I'm afraid that i will need to postpone the class one more week. I will shift the introduction class to Sunday and give the animation class on the 20th. I am truly sorry about the inconvenience. I will give a five dollar discount for part one and five dollars for part two to those that have signed up for the animation class as a thank you for your patience.

sincerely,

Stuckon3d

By stuckon3d - 16 Years Ago
Thank you guys,
here is a little outline of what we are going to cover in the class.

We will start the class by introducing the basic principals of animation, such as:

We will animate a bouncing ball :) By doing this you will learn function curves and what easy in and easy out means, as well as the good old squash and stretch concept.

We will also touch on:
blocking animation with proxies
motion paths
timing
anticipation
action and reaction
arcs
exaggeration and more! cause we like to exaggerate ;)

all of the above while bringing this image to life:

this is going to be a fun class. :)

Hope to see you there.

And as usual Great Class !

Thanks.

Hello everyone,
The Animation class part two will be on March 20th, it will cover character animation in iclone, like blending motions, fixing foot slides(as best as you can), using motion layer editor and transiton curves for exaggerating motions. We will also cover facial animation, by having a little dialogue going in the animation we create. More details coming soon. Until then keep posting here where you are having the most problems with character animation so that i can cover that in the class.

Cheers,

Stuckon3d

Hi Safegaard,
sorry my friend but AML scripting is a class in it self(three hours at least), there is so much to it. If there are enough people interested i could add an extra chapter to the series after the "special effects class", but i need to have at least 15 people interesed in that topic. However.... , we will cover the "collect clip" function so that you can create your motion library so that you dont have to fix motions over and over.

Hi Guys,
I have bad news for you and good news for me. Last Sunday at 10:55PM my son Lucas was born, 4 weeks ahead of schedule, but don't worry, he is a healthy boy of 6pounds and 13 ounces, and he is 19 inches, so he is pretty big for being premature. However complications could arise and he is being kept at the hospital as a precaution. Which means I need to postpone the class until further notice, I hope you can understand.

Sincerely,

Stuckon3d

PS: cant wait to teach him Iclone. :P
By safegaard - 16 Years Ago

Congrats Chris. I hope everything goes ok. And, of course, the animation class would be the last thing i would thing right now. Enjoy the moment...our kids are the best thing there is. Mine is 10 and a girl and the day she was born was the happiest in my life. All the best for you and your family and we will be waiting for your great classes. Cheers.

By stuckon3d - 16 Years Ago
Thank you everyone. Lucas is doing well and slowly gaining more weight.
To my surprise, babies are a lot like avatars in iclone, the come with 4 built in "perform" functions.
1) Eat
2)Sleep
3)Pee and poo
4)Cry when it can't burp or toot his rear horn. :p

Sincerely,

Stuckon3d
By twilit.tera - 16 Years Ago
LOL!

Of course the menu of perform options will grow without any help or control from you. ;)

(edit: just wait til he gets the "throw peas" command!) :D

Hi Stuckon3D,

I'm very late to join the class on bouncing a ball, etc. (since the class was in February and it's now October). Did you record it? Can I view it somewhere? I'd even take a transcript if it's available. Even a large-print-version-with-pictures would be good. :)

I'm just getting started with iClone, coming from a 2D animation background, so these concepts are exactly what I'd like to start with.

I've viewed some of your other video tutorials and got a lot out of them. I especially liked the one where you have Trey step forward and grab a bottle of wine from Violet's hand. I've used guide marks for foot placement in 2D, but it didn't occur to me to use 3D blocks to do the same job in iClone. I'm sure this will save me tons of time in upcoming projects. Thanks!

Just follow the link in my signature and it will give you all the info you need.

By the way the tutorials are amazing and well worth it :)

Hi Capemedia,

I followed all three links, but didn't see anything about bouncing a ball.
