Hey guys, I read in the WIP threads that iRay will be available for rendering multiple frames inside Iclone 7.
The question is, will it be usable? Will we be able to render, for example, 1000 frames of IC footage with iRay, or will it take too long (like, an entire day).
Because if it takes 5 minutes to render a single frame, I believe no one will ever use it to render long sequences, and that will make it a redundant feature.

I would expect that more information on this subject will be available when this is released for iClone - which is supposed to be later in the year.

Hi Lamias
Rendering animations using the Iray plug-in will take much longer than the built in iClone render engine, but the results are fantastic (in my opinion). The time it will take to render a frame will of course vary depending on the complexity of your scene and the size of your textures. However the Iray plug-in features a batch render option so you can be rendering without iClone even running.

Thanks for replying Peter.
Could you elaborate on how is a batch render helpful? I am not sure I understood.
If rendering takes too long anyway, what is the advantage of IC not running?

Peter, I guess the standalone batch render, like all other Reallusion products, can be installed on 2 different PCs. This will make it possible to work with iClone on a PC while rendering on the second PC. Am I wrong?

I also expect a "Batch Render" will allow you to fire off a multi-frame render, so if you want to render a 300-frame animation, you don't need to sit there and submit individual frames three-hundred times.
As for running without iClone being involved: a) In theory you could continue editing in iClone while rendering, though in practice your system would probably be so busy that you'd have poor performance and you'd get too frustrated to continue editing b) If you can close iClone while Iray is doing its rendering, that will free up some system resources to Iray gets all the power it can find c) As mentioned, you can probably do Iray rendering on one computer while doing iClone editing on another
We should know a lot more "soon" (?) when CC3 is released, and then we'll know a lot more when iClone 7.3 is released in "4Q18" (hopefully before Dec 31st :P).

I think that would be the best solution. (for those who own 2 computers of course)
