Here's an 8 second shot of a "camera move" done in iClone. The background - is a *video* (of lights clamped to a metal truss) 'behind' the Avatar. In particular watch the changing focus on the lights as the camera moves towards the Avatar. Please comment on this 'test shot' - is it 'believable'? (Video & Photo experts?) - I'm chasing 'realism'. Steve. (Play FULL Screen --- no audio).

Did you render this all in iclone alone?

Hi hcameron90 ... Only the background video was rendered outside of iClone. (That was done by 'rendering out' iClone's camera motion of only the B/G lights .... - then importing that video into Fusion 9 (free version) to apply the 'defocus' ). The reason? Fusion can do a proper 'defocus' which is what *truly* happens to background objects in such a shot. (There's a 'difference' between 'defocus' and 'blur' as I've recently found out - Thanks to Mark @ illusionLAB). So this is a 'compromise' solution which 'gets around' the fact that 'true defocus' can't be achieved in iClone atm. Steve.
EDIT: But once the Fusion 'defocus video' was placed as a 'background' in the shot, iClone did the entire composite 'render' (using 'Preview' mode, and with a 0.8 strength iClone 'blur' - which subtly blurs the entire scene (both avatar foreground + Video background). This removes any 'jagged' edges and helps 'blend' the composite shot....

I think everything across the board looks very real. If I wasn't a 3d person, and just a shlup off the street without an eye for the stuff, I would mistake it for real, potentially. Very good indeed!
