Is there a way to enable a rag doll effect with iClone 7 characters?

Sort of..... You can use the reach targets to have the character reach to phyiscs enabled dummies. So if you had your little mannequin there with some points for the character to reach to, it would then move with the mannequin as it fell.
There are not reach targets for all joints, but there are enough to do this. Pelvis, neck, hands, feet. The interaction of your mannequins parts will prevent the joints from over-rotating.

Thanks, I'll give this a try.

On the RL Marketplace you can find a nice "Ragdoll Behaviour" - Motion Pack by "Sen":

Thanks @toystorylab for sharing that, that is cool. I was looking for more of a physics based rag doll effect. For example characters effected by collision like props & physics in iClone

enable all the reach target effectors and turn on physics/gravity for each the defaults will make the avatar fall straight down

Yes, it works with iClone 7 CC characters. I just tried it. All you have to do is change the 6 reach targets from the G5 character to iC7, which means: Pelvis, Torso, Rhand, Lhand, Rfoot and Lfoot.

Not that I need much of an excuse to buy almost anything, but are you saying that the Ragdoll thingee in the marketplace can be used in iClone 7 with CC characters?
If so, just watching the demo video leads me to another question -- can you capture the animation clip and then animate in front of the character and bring that captured animation back in and join the two (because apparently you can't animate in front of the character while the ragdoll stuff is in there)?

You can actually have an animation suddenly become a rag-doll. It isn't super accurate in the animation part though. You can use a dummy character with break away physics constraints that the visible character reaches to. When enough force is applied, the constraints can break, resulting in the reach targets falling. It's not accurate because elbows and knees don't have reach targets, so your guiding the animation only by the existing reach targets.

Yes. That's what I'm saying. Here's Christian_CC and the juicy little ragdoll that guides him underneath, all for 399 points, which is a couple bucks. He was just struck by a basketball in the chest.

As for the second question, I am not well-versed enough to answer it (yet).

Yeah, it's not *real* convincing, but it's okay. I'm starting to think now that maybe some mocap stuff would just be better overall (my problem is at my age I just can't do these kinds of falls anymore -- oh, I guess I could fall. It's getting back up afterwards that's a concern).

I found out that if you substitute a CC character for a G5 character with the reach targets, the options of what you can do are very limited.
Much better to do the ragdoll physics simulations with a G5 character (like Chuck) in iClone 5, save the animation of the G5 character (not of the ragdoll) in an iClone 7 motion directory and then apply it to a CC character (like Christian here) in iClone 7. Son't forget to apply a kinematic motion to the ball (see pic).

Here's the result in iClone 7:

I bought "Ragdoll behavior" by Sen in the marketplace for 1899 points. There are 54 different motions. It is also for the G6 characters, but they work directly in iClone 7 with a CC character (like Christian here) Of course, you can apply all kinds of modifications afterwards, like slow-motion, edit with the Motion layer, smooth with curve editor, etc...

Yeah, those are much better and I think ultimately the way to go (or something similar).
It's not surprising, though -- as a rule using physics for 3D animation is almost never as convincing as animation by hand (particles being the exception that proves the rule).
