Hi does anyone know how to export an animation with a transparent background, or alpha channel etc? In order to import into FCPX and place over a different background there?
I've checked the manual and I can't seem to find anything about this? only exporting as a sequence file, but i have no idea what this is art how that would work in fcpx?
I know this can be done in crazy talk 8 so it must be able to be done in crazy talk animator?

Hi Robbie – there are two key settings, highlighted in the screenshot below. (1) Set your video codec to Apple ProRes 4444 and (2) ensure you're not rendering the content of hidden layers.
Only the ProRes 4444 option supports transparency (via an alpha channel). See here: About Apple ProRes.

Thanks a lot for your helpful and quick reply. So strange I couldn’t see any option for Apple pro res when I tried to export before. Only for export to iPad / iPhone / 1080p etc etc. Now when I op ened the project again Thise options have disappeared and in place are the Apple Pro res etc. I guess I must have done something wrong. Strange.

That sounds like some of the Frame Size pop-up menu options, from about half way down the Render Settings dialog box. Anyway, glad you're on your way to a CTA/FCPX workflow now.

If you are using the Windows version of CrazyTalk Animator 3 you won't have the MOV option. Only the Mac version offers this option.

Thanks for replying. Then is there anyway to export a video with transparent background using CTA3 on Windows please?

If you wish a transparent background then you can export as Sequence PNG or our own .popVideo format. You can also Quick Render an Animated GIF with transparent background.

In other words I can't export the video with transparent background unless I buy PopVideo software for $99? While Mac users can do it for free using some apple format? Is that correct?
Thanks

you can export as RAW avi and have it with transparent BG. But the file sizes are HUGE!
most efficient route is to export as a PNG sequence. your editor should be able to read a filder containing your sequence as a video file.
Also you can just set your background to something like pure green or pure blue (or any color really that your character isn't using. And just use your video editors "keying" feature to make that color invisible. With that method you can use any video format you want.
