Can anyone give me some guidance on how to create a putty like or clay like texture for a characters skin?

Thanks,
Wes

I know you keep asking this, but it might help if you provided an image (embed it -- don't make us download it) to show exactly what you mean.

If you are just looking to dabble the skin, for example, you can use a Substance texture (just drag it over onto any character).  In general, this would allow you to "texture" the skin rather than distort the features in any meaningful way.  I can think of a lot of Substances that would work, even some free ones from Substance share.  If you want to distort the features (something like Clayface from Batman) then you can bring the OBJ into Blender or some other 3D program and manipulate and work with it (just don't change the number of verts or their order) and then bring it back as a morph into Character Creator.

And, of course, you can combine the two techniques.

If all you want is a plain clay-colored ("mudbox"), you can easily change the materials.
Here is a quick example of one in Character Creator.  It is similar in iClone.
I simply made a small color patch in MS Paint, and dragged it onto the color channel.  Then I added a light-gray one on the roughness channel.

Hello,

Thanks for the info, sorry I haven't attached an image, I'm trying to be proactive before I get my illustrator samples back. I'll post a sample when I have a character setup.

Thanks,
Wes

I also gave it a try yesterday evening and came up with this muddy/clay texture:

Add some bump and/or tiling and your Golem (just a guess) is done:
