Got an email from RL regarding the inclusion of PopcornFx around December this year.

It appears to me this is mostly a graphic tool.  By that I mean it will mostly have application for signs, titles, splash screens and such.  Correct me, if I am wrong.

My interest is particles with physics.
Examples might be waves on oceans, waterfalls, fountains, flowing water, smoke trails, propulsion with degrading smoke, etc.

I am not knocking the plugin, just expressing my interest.

Did you watch the videos here?  https://www.reallusion.com/iclone/vfx/popcornfx/default.html

It sure looks like it will have a lot of 3D (volumetric) applications.  It looks fun, and I can't wait to see what people do with it.

Yep all of this could be done with popcorn.

For ocean wave I suggest to use a flat mesh driven by animated heighmap texture , like other engine do.

This ocean is not particle.

I wouldn’tgo so far as to say you were wrong but it seems to me – and as you say ,correct me if I am wrong – to be middleware.

By middlewareI mean packages that are designed to sit between. In the case of PopcornFX itseems to sit between anything that can output standard files, such as Alembic orFBX, and iClone.

On YouTubePopcornFX told me that it could use game engine files to import liquid effectssuch as sea swell and glass-filling into iClone.

@mtakerkartThanks for the Realistic Ocean plug-in reference.

I will be watching this plugin- We need competent physics/particles tools

popcornFx looks promising... I can see Matrix style swarms of Sentinals on the horizon :D
