I see many people using DAZ generated characters in iClone6, but is IC7+CC2 good enough to skip the DAZ+conversion step? I'm waiting to upgrade my workstation before trying IC7+CC2 but I'd like to hear some impressions from somebody who has already tested it.

wendyluvscatz (6/21/2017) does it have to be an either or? I use both. Usually a workflow has a lot of steps (multiple render passages, video editing, and so on). If I can skip DAZ import process and have good results with CC2 alone it can be a timesaver.

CC is still difficult because you have to go outside Iclone with exports and imports for develop clothing. Daz3d has excellent high quality content, but exporting through 3dxchange and conversions can take some tweaking. Daz has thousands of content items, and if you watch sales carefully you can buy good clothing and accessory items for characters for cheap.
One example : This sci-fi aircraft from movie Oblivsion is $1.99 to PC+ members. https://www.daz3d.com/aircraft-colo No way you can buy this quality of content in Iclone stores for that.
Learn how to export from other applications using 3dxchange pro and a whole new world of content will open to you. Daz studio is not easy to learn, and working with it can be frustrating..I mostly export through 3dxchange into Iclone. Daz3d doesn't hold a place with Iclone for Video production, but they sure have some outstanding artists producing content for them.

I guess that the impressive DAZ clothing collection may deserve some time spent converting them ;)

I buy clothing for Daz3d characters I import. Got to shop a bit and watch sales, but if your time is worth anything... you do better not to have to create clothing.
RL may eventually produce a more complete CC that really is a full featured clothes production tool. You may be a whiz at producing clothing and working with the better applications for making clothes. Rampa and Wendyluvcatz and some of the experienced forum members are masters at it.
IMO... it is very worthwhile to learn at least enough to use 3dxchange with Daz3d to access the thousands of content items offered.
I forgot to mention... Daz3d decimator tool allows me to lower poly counts of Daz3d content items (very high poly) I export to Iclone. RL has provided the expressions for 3 of the Daz3d genesis characters, so you can do just about anything with Daz3d characters as Iclone characters.

I still fail to see why one needs to make a choice, just use both and toss in a few Fuse Mixamo rigged characters and Makehuman ones for good measure and those new Blender Bastioni ones too I have not tried yet.

while in Blender you can use the tutorials on this forum to dress all your CC people in all their clothes and DAZ studio transfer utility to put your iclone CC clothes on DAZ people too. So its a virtual smorgasbord of 3D people to be had.

iClone has very limited output option (standardGPU, the new PBR+GI, toonshader, Indigo), while DAZ has countless custom shaders that can give your scene a very unique look. Actually I'm just falling in love with DAZ shaders like this one:
 https://www.daz3d.com/visual-style-shaders
Converting DAZ characters into iClone is ok, but when my animation is ready I'm stick to iClone limited render options.

I find that one of the advantages of DAZ which RL has enabled (with Morph Creator) but not fully integrated is that in DAZ all of the morphs are available in the animating engine. So, for example, if I want to animate the transition of Pinocchio's nose from a small nose to a long nose, I don't need to create a character, add a nose morph and then port it into the animation engine. All of the morphs available for DAZ characters are automatically available in the animation engine and can be key framed. With RL, as of now, I would need to export a CC Pinocchio character and then export a second Pinocchio character with the elongated nose. Then in iClone, I would need to use Morph Creator to create the nose morph so that it would be key framed in iClone. Why not make all of the CC morphs automatically available in Morph Creator when a CC character is used? Yes, you can do this manually by exporting each moprh and then adding it in Morph Creator but why not have the system do that automatically? Or provide an option to load the CC morphs automatically? It seems that RL is trying to bridge the gap between iClone and CC but it still feels like two very separate programs when compared to DAZ Studio.

Totally Agree! I would add to that by adding 3DXChange to the total iClone experience. All three programs should be rolled into one comprehensive package.

Are there any decent tutorials for bringing objects fro daze to iclone? or clothes from daz to iclone and fitting a cc avatar?
