I cannot seem to import an FBX file from Maya 17 back into the Character Creator. I continue to receive the following error message:
Failed to load the file.
As a simple test I exported an FBX from Character Creator and imported into Maya 17 and then immediately re-exported the FBX and it still does not import into Character Creator. I continue to get the same error... not sure what I'm doing wrong...

Could be the version of FBX that Maya exports. I believe it should be FBX 2013.

Thank you for the reply, yes, I discovered this late last night actually. I changed to 2014/15 and it seemed to work correctly.

There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this board as to exporting and importing in connection with CC (not me, I'm afraid), so hopefully they will jump in. Just don't give up yet!

It looks like Maya might be adding a new root bone. This is pretty common for a lot of 3D software to do with exports. "CC_Base_Body" should be the root. Maya may very well have stuck in a new root right above that with the name of the file. So check your bone hierarchy.

I had the same challenge and all the same Error Messages Until RL gave me the Hint . Open Maya , first Start a new Scene and then import your meshes That seems important Another important step . set in the copy bind weight option Influence accociation to "name" and Export allways with FBX 2012 . Now it works !!! I have now allready create many Cloths and no Problem more.

If I remove all of Maya's rigging isn't that going to break the imported FBX?

Yes, I've noticed that starting a new scene now seems to be working just fine. Thanks everyone!
Also has anyone been able to import xgen cards into CC?

web3 (2/6/2017) Also has anyone been able to import xgen cards into CC? You wouldn't be able to use those in CC, which is strictly for CC characters. iClone perhaps, via 3DXchange.

Awesome, thanks I was going to basically model the hair using xgen then convert it so cool. I'm on the right track then ;-)
