For anyone who wants to play with texturing props, just attach them to your avatar that you open in CC2. You could even set up a whole scene. The PBR/IBL combo can look really good!

Can this be done without IC7?

Yes. You should be able to attach a "Classic" prop in iC6, and then bring it into CC2. Once in CC2, you can change the shader to "PBR" and apply a nice metallic material.

I have yet to mess with this and I am starting to see an alarming trend all this bling is cool eyecandy, but the shader setup is starting to worry me. I never thought I would have to say this with visual improvements but I am starting to worry I might have to move to blender for my things so I can use a different shader set because I dont want hyperrealism (I actually detest it LOL) so now i am scared to boot up the copy of the CC2 I have cause I am worried. I love iclone and am used to it and have been using it since before it had a decent visual quality. I fell in love with iclone at version 6 (before that it was just sort of something I touched once and awhile). I want improved lighting but this bling is starting to scare me :P
Lets hope my fears are unwarranted and my imagination is just being extra creative today. (although blender is starting to work on realtime it wont be around for awhile)
(i think that is the first depresso iclone post I have ever made oh well hehe)

@urbanlamb,
You should be able to make "non-realistic" materials in CC2 and iC7, without all the bling. Can you post a little picture of the style you'd prefer?
iClone has a "Toon shader" that some people use, but there are issues with it, so maybe we need more shader options.
In some applications, such a Substance Painter, you can actually write your own shader (or have a programmer friend do it for you). Perhaps with the API support announced for iC7 this will become a possibility. We'll have to see how deep their API set reaches. That might not be possible in the early API releases. We'll know much more in a couple of months.

I believe there is no need to worry as the system is very flexible and allows you to change the material to look the way you want. Instead of shiny you can have velvety, for example. It's really not about hyper-realism (like Indigo), but about the effect of light on an object. Think 17th Century Dutch painters for example.

haha thanks yeah I am i a bit worried that they might swing too far in another direction I have always had this wierd dream of making my own 3dcartoons using my own characters I have like 5 half built and a couple built and some "things" in my head along with an iclone 6 set with a test character ready for porting to iclone 7 in hopes that its what I think its gonna be LOL. I dont really use the CC I have played with it but its not my "thing". Anyhow its probably all the plastic bodies and shiny metal dudes I am seeing which i agree look cool but its not what i want to see for my own use LOL.
(so i will try not to worry the emissive textures and particle type fire sets are exactly what I wanted to see I have no need for much else in my stories and ideas the rest is a little bit scary hehe)

have you seen my dancing food? :) that is what I do but the lighting is not quite what I wanted in the stuff I have up when they started to release info on iclone 7 I stopped what I was doing. (this is kinda sort it but it was waiting for iclone 7 but you will get the idea this is iclone 6 of course.. )

edit: If i have to purchase a shader set I probably will either just ask for a refund and go back to iclone 6 or use blender because this photo is closer to what I wanted then what I am seeing produced including the starting images in the thread of the cc avatar produced by reallussion its not nice for this its too .. plastic...

@urbanlamb,
I don't think there will be a problem.
Even in this beta release of CC2, you can pick between "Classic" and "PBR" shaders, and you can do that on a per-object basis. And PBR does not have to mean shiny metal. Turn down the metallic channel, and it's not metal. There will be a bit of a learning curve, but I have a feeling you'll be happy with iC7.

oh thank you that makes me feel way better! I like the more "realism" in water/trees and the more cartoony on characters/objects. I had big ideas which it seemed to me that would be possible in the new iclone with some of what I was seeing. Its probably just everyone excited about the new stuff but if i can mix/match or go completely one way or another then this is very good!
The advancements in realtime makes it possible for me to do things that I just could not really do before as a retired one man band. I was just kinda waiting for it to happen cause I knew it would with all the game engine advancments it was only a matter of time.

I have CC2 but how do I get CC2 to open instead of CC1? Is there a path or configuration change I need to make somewhere? The attached prop follows the CC avatar into old CC but as you know there is no PBR capability there. I don't have IC7 yet.

To get said car into CC2 from iClone 6:
Add CC 1.5 character into iC6. Add car to scene. Attach car to character. This makes the car an accessory. Save the character to your content library. Open CC2. Drag the character from your iC6 content library into the scene window of CC2.
You can also drag the character in from an Explorer window (or desktop). And lastly, you can use the "File/Open" in CC2 to open any CC character file from its location.

Currently, you will have to save the avatar with prop and then import it in CC2. There is no direct path yet (as this is not the release version).
EDIT: I just noticed Rampa gave more extensive instructions...:blush:

Thank you Urbanlamb. Like you I don't want realistic texture. Just want coherent things. Animation, facial, behavior lighting but not realistic. There's a difference. My cyclope clown is definitly not realistic but coherent and that's exactly what I need. For toon shader I don't know the futur but may with the open architecture some one will write very cool shader output. I'm very confident with this release :)
