Exiting, Character Creator 2 is here! I have started it and gotten an error message:
After pressing Retry all has worked ok.
First I have loaded a CC 1.5 Project.
I have converted to PBR Outfit, how described here: https://forum.reallusion.com/309181/6-Convert-Characters-from-Classic-to-PBR
Have added a texture for the metallic channel and played a bit arround with the textures and the atmosphere:
The export as iClone7 has worked, the export as iClone 6.5 has brought an error:
So it was a good start for today with much more possibilities. Thanks Reallusion. Tesira

Today I have tried the Mesh Modifier.
I have 2 feathers at my hat. Now I have selected a part of one feather.
If I change this part, also the second feather is changed.
Also I have had a crash of the Character Creator during the work with the mesh modifier. But can't reproduce until now.

Now I have experimented a bit with the skin. This is my original 1.5 Character.
Now I have changed from classic to PBR in the texture tab.
This has not changed so much, so I have changed the metallic texture and the atmosphere.
Here I have dropped an atmosphere from iClone in my scene of the character creator.
Finally I have switched back in classic mode and this was odd - the moving effect was with classic greater than with PBR. No clue, if this is right, or if here some flags are switched in a false way.

Today I have made some tests with the Appearance editor. This is the original character:

With a iClone atmosphere:
Now I go in appearance editor, where I get a message:
If I clear the unused channels, I get this result: All dos look a bit odd. I don't know, what this function dos clear or remove.
If I keep the unused channels, all is ok also after the changes in the editor.

Today I have played with the Visuals. I have loaded a new picture and changed the parameters a bit. Until now I don't understand, how we can use it. Is it for adjusting the avatar? Will something of this saved with the avatar?

I have loaded a png file in the roughness channel.
Now I have inverted it. After inverting the image was gone and after the launching I have gotten a fully clear image.

Today I have made my first fbx export with Blender 2.78. Well, the import in CC has worked, but I until now have great problems with the material.
After some calibration and loading of textures I have gotten this.
Here I have loaded my projekt from CC 1.5.
So until now I don't know, what is the best way, to work with the materials. Have a nice day Tesira

Now I have loaded Essential10. It dos look allready after loading all a bit odd, but if I try to open the Appearance Editor, it has needed maybe 4 min to open it and if I move a slider it dos always hang.

I just loaded a Project from the Essentials Pack, and one from the Professional Outfits pack without any problems. Changing the materials from "Classic" to PBR also didn't cause any problems.
Added:
The only "problem" that I encountered was a warning message about missing Morph Sliders from the Essential Morph Pack. I don't have this installed on the Beta.

Most of the visual differences have to do with how each version lights the scene.

wires, I don't think, that this is only connected with shadow and light. I have changed a lot, without getting a really good result. All the odd effects I have seen meantime are all connected with .png textures and/or opacity. Maybe there really is an error in the calculations.

Well brainsguy, with the metallic also some is very odd.
If I make the metallic parts in in the metallic and roughness channel black, the colors are nearly so how in the texture. The nonmetallic parts are white.
Here I have inverted the metallic channel:

Also a bug - the brightness -100 dos give white and 100 dos give black.

Meantime I have seen, that this dos happen with the brightness -100 ->white texture and 100 (black) only, if the texture is inverted. So maybe not a bug, but confusing.
Here we go fully metallic with a black texture in the roughness channel and a white in the metallic.

Yes, "all metal" with "zero roughness" should be extremely shiny.
No roughness = total smoothness
It really should be "zero" rather than "-100."

Here I have worn the pirate lady to my little girl. It fits well, So cool.
Only the gloves are to small.
And I have problems with conform. There happen odd things. Here the result of increasing the gloves:
But this dos not work always in the same way. Sometime the effect is haevy, sometime it dos work a bit, how it should. Sometime it dos already happen, if I click with the mouse at the gloves. So it is hard to find the reason for this.

What a great pirate costume for your little girl Tesira! :)
There might be some displacement on the glove material. That would cause that. I usually hide the body mesh if it is fully hidden by clothing. You use the mesh edit tool to select and hide parts of the mesh.

Well rampa, the gloves were really fully deformed after this effect. There also the hide mesh would not help. We seems to have here really a bug.
Here we have worn the next outfit. The shoes were much to great and also conform hasn't helped. So I have used the mesh editor, this has worked well. With this character also the appearance editor has loaded fast and has done, what he should. I only have had problems with the nails. Nothing has worked, I have 5 times tried, to change the color. But suddenly all was ok. So again hard to say, what was here the problem.

All these effects, which are not so right to reproduce, dos look how a memory leak and/or an overwriting of variables.
So I have tested a bit the memory use after loading of CC 431.740 load the child avatar with hoodi 571.988
load the child avatar with skirt 565.292
open Appearance Editor 1500.116 unload Appearance Editor 759.504 loading again girl with hoodi 785.740
And this seems to become more over the time.

After some loading of different characters, opening and closing of the appearance editor I have loaded again the girl with the hoodi. Now the memory use is already 1.561.352K
But today the conform and increasing of the gloves has worked without some problem.

Meantime I have learned some about the substance editor and made some material.
This dos work well in CC.
But also I have found again some odd effect. After some working the sliders fully have not worked more. After new start all was ok again. Then the brightness of the opacity texture has no effect at the opacity.
But if I invert the texture, the dress is fully transparent.

Now a test of the Appearance editor. I can load there a new material, but nothings happens.
When I activate the Appearance Editor, the new material is loaded. But now I can nothing edit more.

I am away from my iClone computer, so I can't verify this myself, but...
Is it possible the Substance simply has no adjustable parameters? Some are like that. That might be why that part of the Modify panel is so empty.
You can still use the other Tab to adjust color and texture maps and stuff.

Justaviking is right. If your Substance does not contain any adjustment parameters then you can only make adjustments inside the Materials tab.

I have had thought, that the parameters in the Appearance Editor are program parameters of the CC. Ok they are parameters of the substance. Have learned a bit morel. Here I have made my first substance in the Substance Designer with a lot of parameters, which I can change in CC. It has worked well.

Ups, after saving and loading again I get this result. The mesh is fully deformed. Before the saving all was ok.
This is the same mesh. The onliest difference between both is, that the mesh of the pullover is gone through the smooth of the mesh editor before saving, the mesh of the jacket (2. picture) not.

I remember learning Substance Designer. Once you start to understand the basic concepts and how to use nodes, it is a lot of fun. I am still bad at it, but is is a very powerful tool.

I have made a new substance in the Substance Designer. So a new test of the substance and the memory use. Original Character memory use: 520.940K
Loading Material and activating the Appearance Editor 610.200 K
Deactivating Appearance editor 526.924K Activating again 610.210K
Changing colors and pattern size
Changing fabric pattern scale
Changing pattern scale
changing hue shift
changing stains parameters
changing hat and shoes material
After all changes and deactivating of the Appearance Editor the memory use is 545.664K. So this dos mean, the dramatic increasing of memory use, which I have seen with other substances, has not happened with this substance. So the substance is the problem?

Yes justaviking, she knows this and has asked already for more. :) So lets look a bit, how we can help her.
In the Substance Designer you have some substance and fabric templates. So first of all open a new substance and choose the Physical Based Substance template.
Now move the fabric template, you want to use, in the graph editor.
It will not do much, until the channels of the template are not connected with the output channels.
If this is done you see the new substance also in the 3d view. Now you can publish the substance already and use in CC. Only you will not have some parameters, which you can change in CC. The next step was the hardest, because I havent found some tutorial for this. So I have tried a lot. Finally I have found a button between all the possibilities, which in th Substance Designer can be used. I have klicked at Expose for every parameter, which I want to use in CC.
This has worked. Now I could change all parameters in CC. Meantime I have learned some more. I have added a blending layer, Tiling, a texture.....
So I hope, the girl will get a new fabric in the next days. :)

With right click at the node, you can also go to Expose. There you get a dialog, where you can choose, which parameters you want to change in CC.

Today I have made a substance with a mask and 3 different materials. Slowly I have so many parameters, which I can change in CC, that I have lost a bit the overview. It is easy, to change the mask for a other dress.

Finally I have learned, how I can make a substance with textures, which I can dynamically load in CC.

I have tested a bit more. The problem with the png Texture in the Roughness and Metall Channel seems to be solved.
But in the Base and Bump Channel the png Textures until now don't work right. I get a clear picture after inverting and also the sliders don't work right, if I invert the texture.

Today I have done some tests with the opacity channel.
The original character is this:
Now I save the opacity texture, save it in my graphic program as png picture and load it again in the opacity channel of CC. Here I get now a fully white picture. All transparency of the top is gone.
If I change the brigthness, nothing dos happen:
Now I invert the colors of the texture in my graphic program and change the gray values to opacity values and load the png texture in CC. The top is after this right again.
The changing of the brightness of the texture dos change nothing and I also haven't some possibility, to change the opacity with a other slider.
There are more odd effects, but they all are connected with the png textures.

Tesira, I'm seeing from your screen captures that your Opacity map is a linked texture. That might be the problem. Try loading as a regular texture file.

hi animagic, well, if you load a jpg texture in the opacity channel, so the gray values of the opacity texture control the transparency of the shirt. If you load a png texture in the opacity channel, the alpha values of the opacity texture control the transparency of the shirt. But you haven't a slider to change the alpha values.

Hallo Tesira ich schreibe auf deutsch, das kann ich besser Du hast viele schöne und interessante Beispiele mit Substance Texturen gezeigt. Hast du die Texturen im Substance Designer selber entwickelt oder dort vorhandene abgewandelt ?
Wenn du sie von Grund auf selber entwickelt hast, war das sehr zeitaufwendig und was gab es da besonderes zu beachten ?
Ich habe mich schon einmal an einer Stein-Texture nach einem Youtube Tutorial versucht. Das war sehr auf wendig und zeitraubend und das Ergebnis fand ich nicht so toll.
Dann habe ich bisher auch keine Möglichkeit gefunden eine Icon-Vorschau in iClone oder im CC im Bereich Material zu erzeugen. Da erscheint immer nur das Substance-Logo mit dem Namen. Beim Substance Designer und beim Painter werden die Material-Vorschauen immer vom Programm sofort erstellt. Das fehlt mir bei iClone und beim CC bisher.

well, you can see here in this thread, how long time I have learned and worked until I have gotten this substance with 4 materials and many parameters. It is not something, what is done in 1 hour. I have learned step by step, every day a bit more. I have first made single substances, have saved them as sbsars and brought them finally together in one substance. But not the creation of the substance itself was the greatest problem, but to organize this lot of parameters in a way, that all is easy to find in CC.
The Icon you can get in iClone, if you go to the substance folder of iClone. Add there your substance and a png picture with the same name as the substance.

@hj,
You need to create an icon in Substance Designer and save it in the same place as the sbar file. It also has to have exactly the same name as the substance.
Select the icon in the 2D window and export the image as PNG. I think that the default size is set to 256 x 256, but you can reduce this in something like GIMP or Photoshop to 125 x 125.
Make sure to save the image with the same name as the Substance, and also save it in the same folder.
Inside iClone the images will show in the Material Template folder where they are saved:

The activating of the Appearance Editor without keep or clear dos work much better. On this way I also can bring my materials, which I have made with my own substances, fast in the new PBR_V1\CC_PBR_Cloth_V1_5MAT.ccText, when I activate the input Maps for a material channel.

Today I have made the update to the newest CC version. I have deinstalled the older version first. So the installing has worked without some problems.
CC has started and I could load my older project. First of all I have wanted to test the Opacity. So I have tried, to load my png texture in the opacity channel at the texture panel. This has not worked. I have gotten a white texture.
Now I have activated the Appearance editor. The transforming to the new PBR_5 substance has worked well.
Here I could load my png texture for the opacity of the base material.
It was also possible to change the brightness of the texture there. After this I also could change the brigthness of the texture at the texture panel.
So this was a good start, to do some more.
