Thanks!! :)

Lamias, Very well done for a first video, especially the flawless motions of the characters. I also liked when the bartender poured a drink and liquid actually filled the glass. Nice touch. :) If you're seeing that boar-like creature in your dreams, perhaps you should stay away from spicy food before going to sleep. ;)

Well done! Liquid glas done with texture blend??
No, i used a 3D prop (pipe) to resemble the liquid pouring from the bottle, and another 3D prop (i think it was a cone?) and i just changed it's transform values on the timeline so it would grow inside the bottle, as the liquid was poured.
Your idea of texture blending is good, and it would probably take less time and work. Too bad i never thought of that! :P

That's rather brilliant! In your YouTube description you said you had problems with animation and motions. Can you elaborate?

First of all, thanks for the kind words!! :)
In your YouTube description you said you had problems with animation and motions. Can you elaborate?
Yes of course!
The problem begins with me, actually. When i envision something in my head, i want to realize it exactly in the way I have pictured it. The problem is that, concerning motions, there are only two ways that I know of to achieve this: 1) Own a Mocap Suit and record everything I want or 2) search through gigabytes of motion libraries, play out hundreds of them to see which fits the picture in my head, and then spend even more time cleaning and adjusting said motion with the Motion Layer Tool. The latter solution takes F-O-R-E-V-E-R.
-At this point I have to say that I don't like to use Edit Motion Layer tool to create motions from scratch, because they appear robotic in my opinion-.
Let me give two examples (both have occurred while using Iclone): 1) Fighting scene. One character grabs another by the neck and throws him to the wall. So the sequence is: he has to be thrown to the wall, bounce on it, fall down probably, and then move a bit to pretend he is hurt, and/or try to get up. Alright?
This means i have to combine a "running motion", a "bouncing motion", a "fall down motion", and a "moving around" or "get up" motion, string all 4-5 of them and then adjust them with Motion Layer. The result needs A LOT of work to appear presentable, to my mind at least.
2) A character returns home with his shopping bags. I want him to "walk to the kitchen", "arrange the bags in line" and "start searching each bag to find something". The simple sequence of "search one bag, pull out, move body to search second bag", is difficult to be achieved, if not impossible, without it appearing robotic.
I know i could use camera cuts and other tricks in order to facilitate the process. But if my mind sees this scene as a single camera shot, i am disturbed by the fact that i have to use a second and a third camera, just to mask out the weirdness of Iclone's animating tools (the "perfectionist" trait I talked about earlier, it's a flaw really). :P
So this is my problem. I am restraining myself to not make any other movies until I can afford a PN suit, which hopefully will solve my psychological issues.
I know I elaborated way too much, and i 'm sorry for that, i just wanted to get it out of me..!!
Thanks again for the comments!!

Lamias:
The deal is: You want the same thing we all want. The problem is making that into reality. Without spending thousands of dollars on animation software and hundreds of hours learning to use it correctly, it's just not going to happen. Iclone is a great animation tool for the amateur to bring his story to the screen, but it is not going to produce professional quality animations over the length of an entire story. Sometimes it does, and sometimes you can get surprising smoothness and accuracy from the software but, if you expect Pixar type quality you will have to buy a more expensive software and the machine to run it. In the meantime, we do it the old fashioned way. Get a movement that approximates what you're looking for and either tweak it on the timeline or change the camera angle so you "make it" look correct. Remember, that on the screen, it doesn't have to be what you want to see, only that it looks like what you want to see. Did that make sense?? Probably not but I said it anyway.:P

What you say does make sense. It's the logical thing to do. However, my brain is stuck in a loophole. Let me explain: :P
I could easily think of 15-20 stories that are in my head, and that I would like to transfer to the screen sometime. Some of these stories have occurred to me when I was 9-10 years old. Since then (I am 25 now), I have been trying to find a way to make them into a screen play. With Iclone I finally have a way of doing it, and I am happy.
But I don't want these ideas to be limited. I don't want to transfer to the screen anything less than exactly what I have envisioned. Those stories have been stuck in my brain for 10-15 years, always playing in repeat, and I don't want to tell them with technical limitations, because I feel like I owe them to be told exactly as I imagined them when I was little.
I am not sure if I 'm making much sense, but that's the way I feel. If someone in here has the same stupid reservations, please talk to me and help me!! :P
Thanks for taking the time to watch the movie and for reading my loooong answers!! :)

Great answers, thanks for letting us into our production process, always informative to know the limitations of the software.
To be honest, I will probably go with the camera cuts to sort out the limitations of animation, but then I do a lot of 'live' shooting with actual humans (I know, very unfashionable) and I find that in those situations I also need to use camera cuts to cover up the limitations of the location, so as no to break the illusion of being in a different era (for example).
Low budget film making is also a game of compromise :)
Have you thought of doing tutorials to show of your animation skills?

That's why i am thinking of purchasing the PN suit. I think it gives enough freedom in the animation process, and that it's worth it's money.
Have you thought of doing tutorials to show of your animation skills?
Well, i don't know how to respond to that. :P
To be honest, I consider my animation skills almost non-existent, so I don't know what could I offer by recording tutorials. I will think about this more carefully though, thanks for the suggestion!

i agree,, awesome work,, i'm curious as to how many hours from start to finish???

Thanks guys!!
Well, it's difficult to calculate, because I started it in September, then I left it, and picked it up again 3 weeks ago, but I didn't work everyday on it.
I would say that a total of 70-80 hours were spent on this project. That includes everything from the beginning inside Iclone, unto the editing in MAGIX.
It's just an estimated time, I could be wrong and it could be a little more :P

wow,, you use magix for editing?? that's what i used years ago,, i'm a mac now and i use final cut pro,, and adobe after effects,, 70 to 80 hours sounds about right,, my first dvd took every bit of that,, where did you find the really good sound effects?? have a great one

EDIT: Double post, sorry :(

Well, MAGIX is what I used years ago, when I made a couple of movies with a PC Game called "The Movies", I don't know if you have heard of it. I learned to use it well so I thought I would continue with it.
But now I am trying Sony Vegas Pro and I think I am going to switch over, it's a really cool program.
As for the sound effects, I just googled what was needed. I think I posted the SFX sites in the video description. Everything I found was free! :)
Can I ask a question too? How did you find the voice-overs? The barman and the cow boy are the only people who talk. Did their voices sound similar to you? And if so, how much? Be blunt and truthful please, I really want to know the truth so I would know what to work on..!! :P
Thanks for the feedback!!
