All the movie posters at Quicktime.com have a size of 134 x 193 pixels.
Therefore, it seems to me that if you want to future-proof your movie poster for use indefinitely, design it at 1340 x 1930 pixels.
In other words, 134:193 is a standard aspect ratio for posters.

I realized that to some extent I was guessing. So I did a search, and now I can report to you the official story.
"The One-Sheet is definitely the most common among US movie poster sizes, measuring 27 inches by 40 inches. It represents the standard movie poster size used in U.S. movie theaters today."

So, along the lines of official movie posters, here is today's version of my poster (see below). Character and pose, as usual, directly out of iClone. Lighting effects added with Paint Shop Pro.
This was actually a big day for me.
Today I also completed a real "keeper" version of my soundtrack!

It's a sphinx moth with a skull on its back. Thank you very much for your question; if you have to ask, it's my problem, not yours.

Seeing your posters, video clips and other samples, I find NOTHING can be improved by me, trying to help. Your character comes out neatly! Why changing more?
The "sphinx moth" truly is more scary than a "pyramid roach" or a "stonehenge fly".
I have another variety at home, mainly by night: "A Tikal Mosquito" which is a real killer....

OK, Mike. Just knowing your good wishes is a tremendous inspiration--thanks.
For the record, I'll upload another poster soon which is a big improvement over this version. What I have discovered is that I already have in my archives some previous efforts with logo, pose, and even the moth that can be assembled into something much better than this.
The most frustrating thing about this long project is not all the hard work, or the investment in all the software and learning to use it, but the times when I reinvent the wheel because I'm neglecting good results previous work.

Here's the latest poster. You may recognize that the character pose was recently used in my contribution to Portland's Art In Hand Cards project.
Someone may even recognize here the old movie logo I developed several years ago. The legibility is not high, but the style is!
The moth is now much more legible than in the poster concept previously posted. In order to give the moth's body a nice organic curl, I vectorized it in Illustrator and warped it there. If you could see the fullsize poster, you would be struck by the skull markings on its back. This is a deathshead sphinx--originally made famous by the poster for Silence of the Lambs.
But this poster is not the first time Walt alluded to immortality by petting a butterfly.
