Thanks for the visual....I was wondering how it worked!
By toonsunlimited - 8 Years Ago
Olga,

You video explains how to rig the body, but how do you add the facial features like the eyes and mouth?
By toonsunlimited - 8 Years Ago
First Rigged Character using the Bone Template Tool.

By jlittle - 8 Years Ago
Janell,

You can set the Default Image by using the "Default Image" button.

Thanks JLittle !
That worked like a charm.

I enhance my bird with a few more wing sprites to create a flapping motion.  I was able to save the motion as a "performed motion" and apply it to the bird.  I also applied sound to the animation. Using the bone tool I was able to move the tail along with the custom wing motion I created. The video is very short, but came out really nice.

By jlittle - 8 Years Ago
Looking good Janell!

I'm working on making a Motion Bone Template for a Duck/Chicken (angled view) to get familiar with the bone system and then will do some motions for it.

Jeff
By toonsunlimited - 8 Years Ago
Testing a Octopus.....he does not confirm well with the wing template because only 2 of the 8 legs will move, however, you can manually move all the legs around just fine and still a create a good animation.

By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
Just outstanding. So great to see new characters that are non-human.keep it up.
By toonsunlimited - 8 Years Ago
Here is a Vector version and a PNG version side by side to show off the new bone template animation.

By toonsunlimited - 8 Years Ago
Was finally able to get a test going for Medusa.  It's not a smooth animation.  It will take a while before I am able to learn how  to setup a loop animation for the snake hair, but it came out ok.  Either way, there is no way I would have been able to create it in any other CTA version.

By vidi - 8 Years Ago
Looks very  nice. I love your style
I wonder why we have not springbones in this version , for the secondary motion .
Especially for such Moption like Hair Tails Ribbon and so on   That would be easier than animate all from scratch
By toonsunlimited - 8 Years Ago
Quick Dino Test.

He would need custom walk cycle and movements, However, I was able to use the bone template an assemble him correctly.

By toonsunlimited - 8 Years Ago
Here is a very simple prop test.

Nice!
You should use some bones for the tongues (and mouth?) to get them to move too.

Very good!

Huge shout out to Janell for helping me work out what the heck I was doing wrong (and there was a lot) when I first started with CTA3. I love that you can take a simple static object and give it such life now. Also, being the fan I am of .png artwork, it now allows characters and moving props to have a level detail we haven't been able to achieve before.

By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
By the way, I totally agree with Vidi that spring bones would be a huge asset to CTA3. If you could add bouncing antenna to an alien character that wobbled about as he walked, that would really enhance the visual.
By vidi - 8 Years Ago
The pencil motion  looks very cool Cool
By jlittle - 8 Years Ago
Nice pencil Garry!
What did you use for the the shadow?

Jeff

By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
Thanks for the feedback guys. The shadow, Jlittle, is just a .png oval from Photoshop with a blurred edge that I add under the character at 50% opacity and then move manually along with the character. And then as the character leaves the ground, I reduce the opacity. I think it gives more of a feeling of the character 'being there'. Of course it also essentially adds an entire separate animated character that has to be keyframed, which is a pain.
By jlittle - 8 Years Ago
Garry,

Yes, that would be a pain but it certainly looks real good and does adds that little extra realism to the scene.

Jeff

By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
I'm LOVING the new four legged motions. There is a lot of potential for great new characters here. I'd also like to see some motions that can be applied to a chicken or T-Rex style of body. Even though they're two legged, they have a distinct walking pattern different from human. Here is a linkt o a test I did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jNNAlrJVrQ&feature=youtu.be
By toonsunlimited - 8 Years Ago
Your dog looks great Garry!  Love the dog collar animation you did.  It's the the little things that really bring out the animation.  The nose sniff at the end was well done as well.

Janell
By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
Thanks Janell. And you're right about the little details. Having the dog tag wobble is a pain in the butt, because, like the shadow, you have to go right back to the beginning and keyframe its movements. But it adds detail. Now imagine if CTA3 had spring bones. Oooooooooooooooooooooooooh.
By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
Was playing around today with the idea of a character base that was shorter in stature, instead of the taller human template character. He still moves quite nicely. I love that you can bend the foot now. Small detail and probably not even noticed by most people, but I like it. Now i need to create a 'look' for this characters features.
By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
A quick character test I did today for a character I'd like to develop called Jack Danger, about a young boy in his backyard who dreams of being an adventurer, but is scared stiff of anything that moves. This character doesnt have any variation of facial features or hand gestures yet. I just wanted to test the rigging. I for one love the simplicity of the new flexible bones and the way they are rigged.

Very good.
When the knife comes out is it a hide/un-hide character swap?

Playing with the Prop Key Editor and transition curves.

Found a few bugs with the prop key editor and timeline.
They are all listed in the bug tracker.

Jeff
By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
Jlittle, nice job on the house animation. Love the springy quality you can add to props now. The sound effects make a heck of a difference too. Good job!
By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
To do the knife blade, it is a seperate prop behind the knife handle, invisible until the frame it starts the animation to pop up.
By jlittle - 8 Years Ago
Thanks Garry.
It was just a rough quickie playing around with the prop key editor to see what could be done.
Yes, The new transitions are great as is the prop key editor.

Speaking of sound effects Garry, I liked the snick sound of the blade opening.

Off to play with the new Elastic motions and see what they are all about.

Jeff
By brothertcoleman - 8 Years Ago
Once we find out how to make the interactive animated props it would be no need to have the knife blade as a separate prop behind the handle.
By the way all of your work is great.
By jlittle - 8 Years Ago
Been playing around with the Elastic Motions and decided to create my own.
Came up with this one:

Even created and added my own thumbnail to it.
Here it is in action applied to four (4) balloons.
I noticed that the orientation of the object it is applied to affects the direction.

Jeff
By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
That balloon animation is awesome! Love it. CTA3 is definitely opening up all new possibilities.
By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
Quick character test from a body base I'm working on. A new set of characters called "Little Mates".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ajewBNBhlc&feature=youtu.be

Note: I think one of the secrets to the potential success of CTA3 is a MASSIVE amount of available motions for the new characters. Just my thought. The ability to drag and drop motions instead of having to key frame every movement is a huge advantage of this software.
By jlittle - 8 Years Ago

This clip used the Prop Key Editor on the pumpkin.

Jeff

By jlittle - 8 Years Ago
The Little Mates look great Garry.

Yes, motions is what is needed the most.

Jeff
By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
Thanks Jlittle. By the way, love the magic sparkle at the end of your pumpkin video. That's a very neat effect.

Thanks Jlittle. By the way, love the magic sparkle at the end of your pumpkin video. That's a very neat effect.

It was several copies of the animated effect "Fairy Lights", that I had in CTA2. I offset each one to cover a wider area.
Not sure where I got it from.

Jeff

Another Jack Danger test. This time testing lip synching for him.

See it here http://youtu.be/IurQ_fPROLA
By etourist - 8 Years Ago
Really hope you have more planned for Jack Danger. Garry, I'm liking what you've demoed with him so far.
By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
Thanks Dave. Yeah, I'd like to think I could do something with Jack Danger. He's a fun character and flawed liked all the other characters in my stable. He's a complete scaredy cat and has a shocking speech impediment along with it.

First attempt at an animated prop.

By Andy Boy - 8 Years Ago
I have been playing around with the prop key editor deform (object smooth) function trying to make some health explainer videos.

By toonsunlimited - 8 Years Ago
Anansi, That looks amazing.
Great Job!!
By jlittle - 8 Years Ago
I second that, Great job!
Looking gooood.

Jeff
By Andy Boy - 8 Years Ago
Thanks, I think that prop key editor deform (object smooth) function is going to do it for me 😀. You can really work with the props in a totally new way and make it look quit nice.
By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
Great job Armani's on the heart and lungs video.
By VES - 8 Years Ago
I've been enjoying animating various objects in Crazytalk Animator 3 beta.  I've never been asked to test a beta version before, so this is exciting.  Garry Pye's stick man is being held down by the "man".

The fly swatter is simple in CTA 3, but would be very difficult, if not impossible in other software.

I did try to link an animated prop to the fly swatter, after adding the bone structure, but it didn't work.  Is this a bug, or did I do something wrong.  I wanted spark like effects to link and follow the fly swatter and only be visible when the object strikes.
By VES - 8 Years Ago
Here is one of my first quick projects, proving you can animate a piece of clip art very easily. It's certainly not polished, but I like it.
By VES - 8 Years Ago
Nice lung and heart animation.
By toonsunlimited - 8 Years Ago
VES

Your videos are listed as Private...You will need to change it to unlisted in order for us to see it.
By VES - 8 Years Ago
Thanks for letting me know.  I've changed it.
By VES - 8 Years Ago
CTA 3 will open up so many possibilities in titles as well.  Here's an experiment in creating "Living" letters that could be animated in unlimited ways.

I used Iclone to create 3D letters on green background.  Got rid of the background in Photoshop.  Imported it in as an bone based actor in CTA 3 and created the motions.  Once I had the speed of the motions the way I wanted, I used the Collect Clip function and added it to the Action menu.  By saving it to the custom actor folder, I could create the whole alphabet.

Very impressed so far.

Is the final version going to have the 3D like layering that CTA 2 has now?

By garrypye - 8 Years Ago
Love the work you're doing VES. The fly swatter, crab and wiggling letters ALL look awesome. And thanks for giving Larry Stickman a good spanking. He needs it.
By VES - 8 Years Ago
This is a project I am working on for my sister's church.  It utilizes CTA 3 for all the letter animations.  I am using CTA 2 and Iclone 5 Pro as well and Sony Vegas Pro for the final render.
Although any animation is time consuming, as you all know, I am constantly amazed how wonderful results can be achieved by the average Reallusion product user.

A few times, CTA 3 crashes when I exit the program for some reason.  It was quite stable when creating the letter animations.
By Andy Boy - 8 Years Ago
Hi guys
I have been fooling around with the prop key editor deform function again Smile

Take a look:

By jlittle - 8 Years Ago
Looking good!
The Prop Key Editor is going to be a very useful tool!!!

Jeff
By VES - 8 Years Ago
Here's a fun project I did that shows how CTA 3 can manipulate objects.
