Does G5 Clonecloth work for CC models or are the two incompatible?

The various Clone Cloth versions only work with the corresponding characters, G1/G1, G2/G2, G3/G3 and G5/G5. The clothing in Character Creator is unique for CC characters and can not be used on other characters.

You can "transform" all of previous clothes with the new cloting feature of CC. Just export your G5 clothes as obj and then conform it as CC.
I made a little tutorial, sorry it's in french language but you can see where cliking in Blender.
