Hi Everyone,

Unfortunately we have become aware of a serious issue with the creation of morph sliders using Blender or Sculptris. Please see below for our plans to remedy the situation for Sculptris users and the current workaround for Blender users.

Issue: Character Creator 1.51 closes down when creating a morph slider from an OBJ file edited in either Blender and Sculptris.

Steps to Reproduce:
Export the OBJ from CC.
Sculpt the character in Sculptris or Blender, and export to OBJ.
Import the OBJ in the CC Morph Slider Editor.
Error message occurs and forces CC to shut down.

Solution:
For Sculptris users: The issue will be fixed in CC1.52. We do apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.
For Blender users:
CC1.51: Check the "Include UVs", "Objects as OBJ Groups" and "Keep Vertex Order" when exporting the OBJ in Blender.
CC1.52: Check the "Keep Vertex Order" when exporting the OBJ in Blender.

Greetings,

I desperately wish this solution worked for Blender, but it does not for me. What import settings do you use? I use the same ones I use for Daz 3D (maintain vertex order).

There's a morph I need to fix, and Blender is the only tool that can do it. Unfortunately, I cannot import the fix back into Blender.

Hello Mythcons,
Hi Peter,
I can only say: For me it works with Blender.
CC does not crash when I use this when you reimport to create Slider. (I also hffe yet that it works mi Sculptris again soon. The program is better in sculpten for me)

Greetings,

Okay, I just got it to work. You DO have to import in a specific way. I am used to retaining the vertex order both during the import and export process (as required by Daz 3D). However, you must import and split the groups (default setting), then export as Peter explained.

If you import with a retained vertex order, then export with a retained vertex order, it will not work.

Greetings,

Well, the process works, but unfortunately the process is not compatible with Blender's shapekey workflow (since it does not retain vertex order). If you try to add a morph as a shapekey, you get this:

Okay, I figured out how to import/export to Blender and retain shapekey functionality.

1) Import with these settings:

2) Export with these settings:

3) NOTE: You cannot add or remove vertex groups (aka polygroups) while editing your mesh. If you do, you will lose the ability to import back into Character Creator.

4) If you need to use vertex groups for the shapekey workflow (as I do), make your changes on a copy of the mesh, then transfer your changes as a shapekey to your original mesh. Then export the original mesh with the above settings.

There's some good tips here for us non-Blender users, I haven't had enough time to play with this much yet but wanted to tag this thread with "Blender Work Flow" so it will be easier to find when I get some time.

i have same issue with icc 1.51 and .obj file that exported via 3dxchange 6.51 !! is a solution with 3dsmax?

I prefer to use 3dxchange to export obj files to blender (through iclone6). Of course it is a longer road but I do not have the need to use any objkey file. The most important is to "keep vert order" when importing or exporting files in blender.
