Video Copilot recently released a free Star Wars pack, includes some highly detailed models, such as BB8, R2D2, lightsaber, Tie Fighter, etc. I want to know how to apply the material in 3dXchange. Seems 3dXchange doesn't support .DDS format, but this pack also include the jpg files. Do I have to load all the maps (diffuse map, normal map, reflection, specular map, bump map) in 3dXchange? Or is there a more convenient way to convert them to a .mtl format? Product link is here:

Good find RagingKylo!

I'm not aware of any programs that will convert .dds files to .mtl, wish there was though. :ermm:

I converted this pack when it came out
didn't have any issues with having to convert image files.
nor did I with any other dds based conversions

I know there's nothing wrong with this pack. VC always do the best. I just wanna know how to convert them in 3dXchange within seconds. I don't know how to apply materials in this application.

I think Gimp can read those and save them as other formats.

I cannot understand why anyone would want to mess with anything Star Wars, because of all the possible copyright and trademark violations possible.
A waste of creative energy.  It is better to do something of your own, and learn as you go.

Hopefully Disney will follow the precedent of Star Trek where Paramount initially launched a lawsuit against a fan film for copyright infringement but they decided against it and dropped the suit.
Unless you are going to try to make a blockbuster movie and make money from it, fan films only help the franchise...not hurt it...but not everyone has come to that conclusion...yet.

From what I understand in this particular case it concerned far more than a fan film, with a significant Kickstarter budget, which benefited from the franchise and also benefited the originators. The whole thing went way beyond a fan film, and IMO Paramount was within their rights to object. There is too much of an everything-free tendency where copyright infringements are considered a just cause.
