I purchased iClone 6 Pipeline this week and wondered if iClone 6 supports PBR Substances/Textures yet?

Thanks.
By mtakerkart - 11 Years Ago
It accepts Substance texture (dynamic way) but not in PBR render way.... Yes I know it's little bit weird but may next year .

Thanks for the reply.  I thought that might be the case :(.

Do you own Substance Designer?  Or Substance Painter?
I bought the (the "Indie pack") and it was many months before I touched Substance Designer.  Substance "graphs" no longer intimidate me, and it is astounding what people are able to do with it.  It's a lot of fun.

As mentioned, iClone 6 doesn't (and won't) have a PBR shader, so it doesn't support a "metallic" workflow.  However, it does support "substances" if they have iClone-friendly output channels.

How far down the rabbit hole into Wonderland would you like to go?
By Rampa - 11 Years Ago
Those channels can be frustrating too. They're running a Substance contest over on Substance Share, and none of them work properly with iClone!:crying:

https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries?by_category_type_id=11&q%5Bs%5D=approved_at+desc

Seems that not all software uses the Substance channels the same. For all these cool free Substances, there is nothing going to the diffuse channel in iClone.
By Kelleytoons - 11 Years Ago
If you have Substance Designer you can fix this -- the "diffuse" channel can be named a lot of different things, and the folks who design the materials don't always pick the right ones.

I went in and edited a few and just changed some of the channels to names iClone recognizes and they work fine (although, frankly, I couldn't find any of the entries I actually liked -- then again, I have Substance 200 and *plenty* of materials).

This is one of the things that drove me crazy about SD when I first started to use it (why in Heaven's name isn't there a more standardized way of referring to certain channels?  Either that or some kind of translation in the various software that uses Substances -- iClone ought to be smart enough to recognize the various diffuse channel names that Substances use, for God's sake).
By justaviking - 11 Years Ago
I participated in the aforementioned Procedural Material contest.  They specifically wanted their outputs consistent with a "metallic" workflow:
  • Base Color
  • Metallic
  • Roughness
  • Normal
  • Height

Last night I modified my output channels (took 5 minutes)  to be iClone-friendly and it actually worked in iClone!  On the first try!!!

All the contest entries are freely distributed here (four categories):
https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries?by_category_type_id=11

Awesome stuff.
By Kelleytoons - 11 Years Ago
The only one I couldn't figure out was height -- but I used the "roughness" for the bump channels on those textures.

What, exactly, is the right mapping?
By justaviking - 11 Years Ago
Height --> Displacement

(I'm away from my iClone computer, but I'm quite sure that's correct.)

In Substance Designer, I *added* new outputs, giving them the correct name and the correct "output."  I left the unnecessary ones sitting there, and iClone gracefully ignored them.
By urbanlamb - 11 Years Ago
Base colour = diffuse
height = displacement in iclone (so you need iclone6)
metallic you can move to specular
normal just leave it as that
and I would probably just delete roughness or change it to match the blend channel or something

By justaviking - 11 Years Ago
LOL... I mapped Roughness to Specular and ignored Metallic.
I wonder what gives better results.
In my case, it looked okay.  Maybe not for other materials.
I was thrilled that my sliders and stuff worked.

P.S.
I inverted the Roughness before connecting it to the Specular output.  Not sure if that was right or not.  Worst case scenario is my slider works in reverse.
By Kelleytoons - 11 Years Ago
Thanks, guys -- I had them right except for the height/roughness.

Could IC5 folks use bump for height, or is that just not going to work?  (Don't care myself but...)

iClone 5 doesn't support substances.  Also doesn't support "Displacement."

You could output basic texture maps.
The free Substance Player should be able to take a Material and output the maps you need.  Some assembly will be required, but it should work.

Well if it looks cool that is all that matters hehe.  I just instinctively link metallic to specular because most of the softwares designed to bake things usually link metallic to specular and often you create coloured specular maps based on the metalic colours of textures for extra oomph.     The substance designer I like it though for baking things out beforehand.  I find at present its just as easy to bake out the components and import that into iclone as to import the substance.   You can't have a lot of substances running it takes up too much graphics card memory I find even with a huge card so I have to flatten them out and bake them anyhow so I just import the component textures.   I still use the designer but externally.    After I sat and worked with it I realized that it wasn't that difficult even for someone like me who hates anything to do with programming even the node based stuff I dislike doing it so i put up with it :).

There are a bunch that seem really useful to me. I'd be overjoyed if someone wanted to take on converting a few to work. SD is not an expense I can justify for the foreseeable future. :)
By Kelleytoons - 11 Years Ago
Let me know which ones and I'd be glad to do it as the time allows (obviously there are at least two others here who could as well -- perhaps splitting it up would be easiest).

You've certainly helped me more than I could ever repay.
By urbanlamb - 11 Years Ago
I can probably convert a few.  I haven't looked much at their repository for some reason but I guess I should take a peak one day soon.   I will have to get familiar with their share repository first I dont want to get into any trouble so I need to sit and read the rules :D

Just checked its not hard to share there http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/  so I guess its just an issue of keeping track of who made what and linking back :)
By Rampa - 11 Years Ago
Here are a few that jumped out at me. Mostly organic stuff/ground cover. No rush or anything, and you should always have a look and see what's cool for you! ;)

By justaviking - 11 Years Ago

I'll tackle these two (the bottom two).

UPDATE:
The Stylized Rock Generator (#1026) is a "7-zip" (.7z) format, and I don't have that on my system.
I'll work on the barnacles though.
Meanwhile, I'm going over to the Allegorithmic "Substance Share" forum to ask them what their standards are for the uploaded files.
By Kelleytoons - 11 Years Ago
Okay, I'll take the top two <g>.

At least for now -- I'll do others if time permits.
By Kelleytoons - 11 Years Ago
As these can be freely shared (as long as you only share the non-editable version) I'll just post a link to them here rather than put them in the SD library.
By Kelleytoons - 11 Years Ago
Here's the link for those two:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44162406/Substances.zip

I still think "roughness" ought to map to something in iClone -- not sure what, but the slider in the mud material seems to indicate it would be useful.
By justaviking - 11 Years Ago
I am having trouble with lack of free space.
I just deleted a bunch of old attachments, but I guess the server hasn't updated my info yet, so I'll have to wait a while to complete the upload here...

Full... but 5MB available... Which is it?
Should be plenty of room for a 39KB file.

Barnacles on Rocks...

Please give feedback.

QUESTION:  What do we do with Ambient Occlusion?

On my material, I have the ability to load in a custom bitmap, and in iClone there is a list of things you can apply it to, including "AO."  But I don't see any way to map an Ambient Occlusion output from Substance Designer to iClone.  Suggestions???
By urbanlamb - 11 Years Ago
I will fart around with this on the weekend I guess.  I saw a few that I might like to use when painting things up in 3dcoat as well :)
The ambient occlusion I dumped that since we have ambient occlussion internally in iclone and with the upgrades in iclone6 its actually pretty decent so I figured it would okay to dump that channel completely when doing substances.

Thanks for having a go at these!

I actually found one that works as-is. It's some cool looking ice. :)

And a sky-map generator that might be really useful if anyone wants to have a go at it.

I did this one first the ice one can you check it and let me know if its working the way you thought it would?
After some thinking I used the roughness channel as a "reflection" channel and also used it for specularity.  I have no clue if this reflection channel will work ultimately but it seemed to.  The actual specularity channel was .. borring.. so i thought the roughness would work better.
I farted with it for a bit and all the sliders seemed to work.
By urbanlamb - 11 Years Ago
here is the skysphere one from here https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/646

I took the AO and Another couple of channels and smushed them together and called it both reflection and specularity.
I also took the mask layer which was basically the clouds and smushed it together with the diffuse layer in order to get clouds .. so hopefully its not too cloudy lol otherwise the sky seemed kinda meh.
I exposed a few other parameters that seemed useful in hopes that it all would work  it seems to work in iclone.. ..

Finally got enough space cleared out.  I think the free-space calculator wasn't working right.

Wow! Thank you Urban and Viking!! I think we have very Senior Substance in this thread ! I really don't understand why the sbar from substance website doesn't work in Iclone but yours works fine ! :-)
By Rampa - 11 Years Ago
I've just had some time to play with the ice. It looks very good, and has all kinds of amazing settings! :) Thank you so much!

I'll look at the others soon too.
By urbanlamb - 11 Years Ago
haha okay (and your very welcome) it looked right its just I was unsure of what others expected.  Its really a matter of just trying to decide what would be useful inside iclone and "exposing" a bunch of settings to show up.   All the heavy lifting is already done (thankfully because I hate coding ^^)
By justaviking - 11 Years Ago
I need to be very clear... the "Barnacles on Rocks" is not my Substance.
All the credit goes to Mario Cada.
https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/1028

I merely downloaded it and put in "iClone-friendly" outputs.  I did not model the substance at all.

WHY DON'T MANY SUBSTANCES AT "SUBSTANCE SHARE" WORK IN ICLONE?

Many applications handle substances differently.  iClone is not unique.  In fact, there are some pre-defined settings for people exporting to Unity.

For example, the "height" channel is called "displacement" in iClone (see Image 2, below).

iClone doesn't know what to do with a "metallic" channel (that also goes with "roughness" and "base color").  Our shader doesn't support those things.  We use "specular" and "diffuse" channels.

Below you can see the complexity of the "Barnacles on Rocks" graph.
All I did was take the final connection to the output nodes and connect them (also) to ones iClone understands.
I didn't even disconnect the original outputs.

So most people when they create a substance don't bother to connect more than necessary, based on their target application (which might be Substance Designer and Substance Painter).

Barnacles work great!
The sky sphere is a little hard to fine tune for me still, but it works!
Low tide also works great.

I found yet another very interesting looking forest floor one. It's called "A Moment of Zen" It looks to be not only a forest floor generator, but has different seasons as well.

You DO know, Viking, that you don't need to create more outputs to use these in iClone, right?  All you have to do is to rename the existing outputs and change the type (you can do this in seconds in the right hand rollout without even looking at the substance in the visual editor).

I guess so, but it's only about 20 seconds of extra work per output the way I did it...  Adding an Output node and connecting it are the only extra steps I did.  Specifying the Usage and giving it a name is about the same amount of work as changing the Usage type and renaming it.

This way I preserve (for myself) the original outputs, for no particular reason.  But since they don't seem to hurt, I figured there was not harm in it.  Though I suppose they might still be adding a few milliseconds to the processing of the substance.

Either way, the hard work has been done by the author.  Tweaking the outputs is easy-peasy.

Some of them require some editing for example the skytool would not work in iclone without me adding a couple of shuffle and blend nodes in at the end.   The one with the tide was simply not organized well and it took me awhile to find the output nodes and it was simply a matter of changing the info on the final nodes.   The ice tool didnt have all the right paramateres working in iclone so i had to go play with the input area to get the sliders to show up and actually added 2 new output nodes and did some cutting and pasting.  So they are not all built the same way but are mostly adaptable.   Some obviously were built for use in unity while others were obviously meant for use inside substance designer or something like 3dsmax (like the sky tool) .

Again though i would also like to stress that we are not the authors we are just taking the info that is there and playing with a couple of areas to get the info to show up in iclone.  They are very very complicated we are just farting around and deleting this and combining that and flipping this switch for this to that to get stuff to show up using the iclone parameters :)

Here is the moment of zen one which is pretty cool.  I exposed a pile of input paramaters so it can make wierd looking changes now lol .  I also put in a "reflection" channel but i would suggest simply baking the info from that and moving it to blend its just that was the only slot that would take the info that was not taken and it will give some nice shading.

Your welcome if they are borring its fun to expose the input paramaters and makes things less boring.  The zen one is a very huge one everytime I exposed a set of paramaters I had to let the pc work and go do something while I waited.  It was cool to see that you could make the snow a bit deep even by turning up the displacement a bit.

Anyhow have fun with them.  I am sorting through a few as well as I think they can be very useful now for environmental stuff even though iclone doesn't support them outright they can still make some interesting affects!

I am going to use the zen one in my next video I think :D

Here is one that I thought was cool "tree mystified".  I 'fixed' it of course lol and added a reflection and specular channel I think it would make good scifi stuff too. (you can just delete the textures you dont like if you dont want a shiny reflective tree..) :D

I actually really love this one. It reminds me of the forest floor in western Washington, where I used to live. Again, it has an insane amount of adjustability. It'd be so hard to replicate the look without this. It does need a reasonably tessalated base, and then to have the tessalation cranked up a bit with some reasonable depth offset. The sticks actually double as roots really well. I loved mountain biking in this kind of terrain!

So thanks. I'm glad you did this one! :)
By urbanlamb - 11 Years Ago
I guess it was the surface I was using as the sticks were not looking very stick like when I tried to enlarge them :)
Anyhow I found this one as well and it needed no real tweaking it appears he likes lots of buttons like I do.  I just had to change the height to displacement and put the AO under reflection since there is water represented I didnt want to dump the channel just in case.

Its "shore rock sand"  found here https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/913

I will do a few tomorrow I have downloaded a pile that looked interesting :)

Yeah that one was really cool and he had left it so you can get some decent variation.  Some of them they make these huge detailed layouts and then only leave it so you can toggle things on and off which to me seems to be a waste of a substance so I go button happy so it can be changed in as many ways as possible.   Anyhow I had been ignoring that share site or I would have been using those files sooner :D
By justaviking - 11 Years Ago

I went back and reviewed the original list, and some new ones.
Here is my tally:

We can see who's been busy!  Thanks, Urbanlamb.

Meanwhile, I'll share *MY* humble substance with you.  I have things I plan to improve.  I'll let you know when Rev B is available.

It's Whiteboard, like you'd see in an office conference room or in a classroom.

  • There are a number of adjustments, and the main one is the "writing," which can be on/off, blurred, faded, and replaced with a custom texture of your own choosing (see "Input" in the second picture, below).
  • By changing the background color, you can make a chalkboard (black, green, or any color you want).

Thanks Mr Viking,

I decided to check the thread for more downloads before i go to watch bad movies and go to bed. I will add that to my now growing collection of iclone friendly substances.    The only substances I have created from scratch so far are the ones for baking out uvmapped stuff that have ID colour maps on them.

I get intrigued by the fact that in some cases its all procedural shapes and there are no actual bitmaps or photos of any sort so my next learning journey will be to figure out 'how they do that cool stuff' :)

I was working on the "Snowy Ground" (#885) but am not getting good results in iClone.  It's fixable, but I will need to settle down and think about what I'm doing.  It's too specular, the ground is too "blah" colored in iClone.  I had to fix the height (displacement) map because it was working inside-out in iClone.

On the other hand... Impressed with "procedural" substances?

PREPARE TO BE AMAZED!!!!

Allegorithmic just finished a "Procedural Substance" contest.  You could use some incoming graphics, but only in a minor way.

Look at the stunning winners...

There is NO GEOMETRY.
These are rendered on a flat plane or a  cube.

Hi justaviking, I have owned Substance Designer and Painter since V1.0 for both and worked on a few beta's. I develop Substances mainly for Unity hence considered porting my Substance Sci-Fi packs to iClone.  you can watch a short video of how my Customisable Substances work

In regard to some other posts about outputs.  They can easily be modified in Substance Designer to suit the host app.  Some Substance integrations include under the hood remapping like Unity, whilst others require the remapping to be done inside of Substance Designer.  the Alloy shader plugin for Unity packs multiple maps into different channels in order to utilise only one RGBA texture like follows.
Metallic > R
AO > G
Specularity > B
Roughness > A

This is easily done in Substance Designer and the main reason for my original post, to find out what iClone shaders expect to be fed with.  Now I know they do not support PBR, I can try and adapt one of my PBR Metallic workflows to work with iClone.
basecolor > Diffuse
Normal > Normal
Roughness (inverted) > Specular

I think someone mentioned in a post above to use the Metallic output for Specular.  The Roughness output inverted is best use for traditional or non-PBR shaders Specular channel.

EDIT:  OOP, I just noticed there are now 6 pages to this thread since I first posted.  I only viewed the first page when I did this reply.  Sorry I repeated something already covered.

Okay, I did the stylized rock generator that was in 7z compressed format (1026).  I've just included it in the same zip file for the other two I did:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44162406/Substances.zip

So is anyone else bummed we can't get thumbnails for these inside of iClone?  I guess you could do this in iClone 3 for the materials there (and I'm guessing maybe you still can for anything that is an iMTL file) but you can't do it for substance materials.  Not having a thumbnail is a bit PITA as far as this old man is concerned, who can barely remember his grandkids names, let alone what any particularly named substance does.

http://www.reallusion.com/ContentStore/iClone/pack/G3_CloneCloth/CloneCloth_help5.aspx

I see this as a bug, plain and simple.

I downloaded it but it didnt have stylized rock, but it had rock with barnacles.  Maybe you clicked the wrong link? dunno anyhow be back later to do some more as well.   Thanks for the substance conversions :)

Ah, shoot.  Old man time.

It's fixed now, but just in case the link changed: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/44162406/Substances.zip

These look great KT! :)

The rock wall and mud are pretty great. Now, if we could just have iClone support animated Substances like the lava "flow".

And those thumbnails! I have actually saved little renderings from iClone to use. They just need the same name, and to be in the same folder as the Substance.

I'm pretty sure you can save a Substance as an iMaterial as well (and have it remain a Substance), and use the right click on it in the Content Manager to add a thumbnail.

oh thanks!.

The rock one has lots of knobs so its great :)
The more knobs the better I think

and yes it would be nice to see some animated substances support ^^

Yes!  This would be a great user-friendly fix to streamline workflow and efficiency!!

Ditto on the animated Substances :D

Yeah, I just now figured out all you need do is to save a PNG with the same name in that folder right before the email came alerting me to these messages.  It's still a PITA there isn't an easy way to add a thumbnail to a substance in the same manner as an iMaterial (so you could do it all in iClone) but at least I can now see what I'm looking at.

Love that Stylized Rock!

It gets even better if you load your own diffuse on it, for a little color. ;)

I found this grass one that has some potential I think for piles of things.

"procedural grass" https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/64

I have a couple more that I liked, but they have no knobs so I have to "fix" them so they have knobs some sci-fi ones and stuff.   So I will be back when they are "fixed" :)

here is "royal stone floor" although he titled the file differently.  (scifi floor)

We just went through this above -- put a PNG image in the same directory as the substance (wherever you have saved it).

Hi HJ
Hope I haven't misunderstood your question
To have an image on the icon of the material in the content panel of iClone you just need to put a png file with the same name as the material in the folder where the materials are.
See image
Open iclone and add a flat surface and put your material onto it.
Take a screenshot and crop it in an image editor
Save the image into the folder where the material is with exactly the same name as the material.
When you re-open iClone the material uses that image as it's icon

EDIT
Kellytoons beat me to it

here is a cool one "the lie behind the love" has moving parts its like a puzzle box or something..

Well now to go do something else.   I will keep posting files until i run out of allowance I guess :)

Forest Mud? I put the ao in the emmissive channel because you might want to bake it out and use it.  I also made a reflection channel because of the water but i dont think it works :)
Its from here https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/890

Also "The River Styx" from here https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/617

That mud one is really nice! I wish the rocks could get just a little bigger. I found with the shore rocks that using some actual iClone water with it was quite effective. It made perfect tide pools, with proper reflections. :) Helps here as well to get those puddles just right. Thanks for this one. It's super good!

There are others I think will be cool I will probably do them this week sometime.

I did these two little videos quickly as we mentioned about animating subtances and well we can.  I am not sure what the jerkiness is but I think flowing lava etc can be achieved with these
here is the river of styx and the mud and water texture

And that scifi one with the aperture I did that one as well quickly.  They do take up a ton of processor power however to render I actually had a ram problem rendering the cube one and I just built this pc its got a 6 core i7, 32 gig of ram and a 970 graphics card.  I got low memory (ram) warnings on my pc I had to do some shuffling of resources quickly to get it to run sooo alas animated substances are probably not entirely practical right now in real time engines lol.

Anyhow I have decided the best substances are probably the environmental ones and for the moment regular texturing methods is probably better for many things.
By Rampa - 11 Years Ago
I agree that the natural ground cover and stone are the best. One of the eyeball creators looked really good, but the CC already has one of those. There was a decent chain-mail that could rust and stuff. But that complex nature stuff really takes the cake! :)

I'm going to work on a transparent posable path that can be fitted to match the displaced surface, and then added to the terrain as a dummy so it can be walked on. Some displace quite a bit (shore rocks, for instance) and need such a thing.

More substances.

1) Magma Rocks - had no buttons other then making the magma glow more so i made more buttons lotsa buttons.
Its from here https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/978

I kinda liked this magma... pardon hopefully there is not so many buttons you loose your mind LOL

2) Temple Wall - was completely buttonless .. now it has some.. it might be semi useful
Its from here https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/785
he calls it vine for some reason anyhow its the right file i think..

3) Pyramids wall - is from here https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/803

4) Stylized Procedural Stone - had a very low rating so it was burried.. I dont know why its excellent!
Its from here https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/962

Apologies for my button fettish :D

Another couple of substances

1)Creature Scales from here https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/986
I added an emissive channel but i attached another HSL shift node to it and exposed that because the design is just too cool to not use all the buttons ^^

2) Metropolitan Street from here https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/924

( starting to run out of substances worth bothering with so I will do the last few tomorrow I guess )

You can save a Substance as an "iMTL" by clicking on the tiny disc (save) icon right above the material list at the top of the material panel. When you do that, it saves the standard sphere of the material icon. It does remain a Substance as well, and fully editable. It has a little indicator that it is a substance in the lower left corner.

You'll get an icon that looks like this:

Ah, good find.

It's a *bit* disconcerting that it changes the extension to an iMAT but, as you point out, it does show that's what it is by indication.

oh that's cool I haven't actually gotten to sorting my substances yet I just have them in a giant file folder for the moment until I am satisfied I have converted the ones I wanted :)
By Rampa - 11 Years Ago
I just started sorting the ones from this thread. There is no way to capture a new thumbnail for materials like there is for props and avatars. So if you want a flat preview, you still need to save a PNG file. The complex terrain ones can be easier to see with a flat preview.

okay I think I  am done now.. (i have run out of space)
here is the last ones that did not look like they were simply textures run through the software

By urbanlamb - 11 Years Ago
hehe well hopefully they are of some use there are lots in there that I am sure to use and others just looked cool so i converted them.     I probably will have a go at making my own again soon.   I am saturated right now so I need to go do something else for a bit but my substances are pretty borring although i learn something new each time i fart around and make one.
By Rampa - 11 Years Ago
Many thanks for all these conversions!

Here is some chainmail that I liked, if you get a hankering to do some more. ;)

thanks for the help with the icons
thanks for sharing the many to iClone adapted materials. :D:D:D:D:D

Question: How do I change a material for iClone in the designer?

Do I need only to change the names in the output?

https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/cacd1b78-3d1f-4e33-8870-678a.png

Is it possible, in short, a step by step specify.

Something I am doing wrong.

yeah you need the sbs file (the one that is editable)

first look for the outputs and see what is there sometimes you just need to change those and in others you need to "fix" things.  (look below at the attributes not the typed labels)
for instance opacity maps seem to be reversed in iclone so you need to go add an invert node to flip them so the black and white is reversed.   (stuff like this)

so first step go change the output attributes and import it into iclone and see if they are all working.    Then there are many substance materials up there where they for some reason give zero options which is kinda silly because then its just a basic texture so if you have that go through the input areas and look at how you can change that.    You need to expose paramaters in this case usually its very close to the start of the graph.

Then for inverting stuff you would need to add an extra node at the end just before the output to reverse things.    If you see substances are loaded with more or different buttons then what you get when you convert an sbs file this is because I "fixed" it lol.

There are a lot that are just basic textures diffuse, normal etc that are not procudural at all just ignore those we have lots of substances inside iclone already we can adapt and simply replace the diffuse, normal etc.

By hj - 11 Years Ago
Hello
Thank you for your quick response.
I had forgotten to switch the "usage". It works now.
Some Procedural textures in iClone burden on the video card and the memory of the computer with me and are very to use iClone in at hardly any.
It is better for me to generate the textures and then to use in iClone.

Yes if you have substance designer you can bake a lot of stuff out beforehand.    The purpose of converting stuff was for those who dont own the software although the substances for terrain I likely would import into iclone however they do take a LOT of power to use so I have found its often easier to bake them out for the model inside the substance designer if you own a copy (its on the black friday sale now by the way)
By Rampa - 11 Years Ago
I find that the ground-cover type Substances, where displacement plays a large roll, are best done in iClone on a per-object basis. Then they can be baked with "bake" button once they look right. Just using a slightly curved surface vs a flat one can change the look drastically and require a different multiplier for the displacement and other variables. You can also disable channels from using the Substance graph. I usually un-check the "Use Substance" box reflection and glow, but am glad that UL has included them for extra versatility.
By Rampa - 11 Years Ago
It is probably worth pointing out that if you have downloaded Mixamo Fuse (which is free now) you can grab all the Substances out of it. That way you can have a huge Substance fabric library very quickly. It also has body and clothing Substances much like the CC. It's clothing Substance supports 8 materials by different color regions. Also comes with a nice "zigzag" pattern Substance.

They all work in iClone, and already have the PNG icons created.
By urbanlamb - 11 Years Ago
oh yeah I forgot about maximo i just fished out the substances in there.  I had not realized they had a substance in there that worked in iclone that used the colour idmapping but that is fine now I have several lol.    I also noticed that there were a couple of substances on the share site that were good that have been 'upgraded' and more stuff added so I probably will do those next week and remove the older versions from the thread.
