The new Kinect Mocap Plug-in is now available for purchase and trial download! Combine iClone 6 with the power of Kinect for Xbox One, Xbox for Windows, or Xbox 360, to create authentic motions using your own body.

New Features:
  • Now compatible with Kinect for Xbox One, which is equipped with a brand new 1080p camera, and a new TOF (time of flight) sensor that offers unparalleled tracking accuracy.
  • Additional trackable skeleton joints that enhance neck up/down, upper torso and wrist rotation, and squat movement.
  • Improved 3D visualization for better floor and foot contact, including the ability to save floor calibration.
  • Rapidly switch between multiple performers captured on camera without having to re-target each time. Do this by directly right-clicking on the tracked body.

To learn more about the Kinect Mocap Plug-in, please visit http://www.reallusion.com/iclone/mocap/
To see the Kinect Mocap Plug-in manual, please visit http://manual.reallusion.com/Kinect_Mocap_Plug_in/ENU/1/default.html
  • If you have purchased the previous version of the Kinect Mocap Plug-in after (4/20/2015), then you are eligible to get this version for free. Click here for the free upgrade. If you purchased the Kinect Mocap Plug-in before this date, then you can buy the NEW Kinect Mocap Plug-in, at a special member pricing at our store.
  • Three separate installers are included and each works with different mocap devices. It is important to choose the correct installer that matches your Kinect sensor, otherwise the plug-in will not work.

Very disappointed to see that previous MOCAP Plug-in owners are going to have to pay for the upgrade when the previous version was seriously flawed and virtually unusable.
Having logged in I cannot see a "special member" price anywhere unless you are talking about the member price that applies to everyone ($79.99).
How much will the upgrade be for previous MOCAP plug-in owners? Please do not tell me I will have to pay $79.99 like everyone else as that is not really an upgrade price at all is it.

Also the features page only mentions compatibility with Windows 7 and 8. Is the MOCAP Plug-in compatible with Windows 10?

HI RL team

I just bought the new Mocap plugin even with the high price (already own version 1) but I am really disappointed that there is no face mocap.

Without face mocap this is just the plugin that should had been when I bought version 1 only difference is that now it's working OK.

I really hope you improve this V.2 version.

hi realtimer,
Is this new plugin works with Kinect v2 for Windows (not xbox version) and Windows 10? For me it is not very clear in the doc.
By Kelleytoons - 10 Years Ago
According to the docs this version works with both versions of Kinect -- Windows 10 is only supported with the newest Kinect V2 (the newest Kinect works with both Windows as well as XBox One).  And if I'm reading them right, using Kinect V2 requires iClone 6.21.
By Zeronimo - 10 Years Ago
thank you Kelleytoons  for that clarification, you has been of great help.

The upgrade price is indeed $79.95. Member Prices and Upgrade Prices are the same thing. The full price however is $99.95.

I have a Kinect for Windows and just downloaded the new Kinect Mocap Plug-in, however, installer says Win8 required (I am running Win7 64).  My question is, if I connect my device to Win8 machine will I get all or most of the benefits of the upgrade or do I still need to upgrade my Kinect to the new 1080p version?  Thanks!

Hi Eris,

Unfortunately there is no facial mocap in this new version for Kinect For Xbox One. The features included are explained HERE.

The Kinect For Windows v2 devices and the Kinect For Xbox One are the same thing and both work with the new plugin. In fact Microsoft have discontinued the Kinect For Windows v2 device and now only sell the Kinect For Xbox One with PC adapter. Both devices will work with Windows 10.

Thanks Peter. I have to say that I think that is a poor show in customer loyalty terms - normally you would not expect to pay 80% of the full price for an upgrade. I would have paid for it at a more reasonable price but will spend my money elsewhere on this basis.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm sorry you feel disappointed with the pricing. I will pass on your feeling to the sales team.

I also think for an upgrade the price is too high. There also should be a difference between Member Prices and Upgrade Prices.

Anyways ... thanks for the news and for passing the feedback to the sales team.

It looks like the Kinect 2 will track a full 360 rotation as well.

This looks like a pretty good deal. The sensor and pc adaptor look to run about $130.00 - $200.00 on Ebay. Another eighty to one hundred to get the plugin , and your good to go.

So is there any finger tracking available with the Kinect 2 plugin? That would be icing on the cake! :)

The Kinect will, but it's not clear if the plugin written for iClone will do so (that YouTube video was using other software).

I already have the Kinect (since I got an XBox One right out of the gate, before it was an optional device) so I went ahead and, for $50, bought the Windows adapter/cable extension.  $80 more for the plugin doesn't seem bad to have something to play around, although I have to admit I'm a little disappointed at seeing the demo videos in terms of tracking accuracy and motion cleanup needed.  It may well end up being more trouble than it's worth to capture motion this way.

The image below shows the two different Kinect For Windows devices. If you have the older Kinect For Windows v1 then you can't use the new plugin designed the Kinect For Xbox One. You will need to use the version of the plugin designed for the older version. If you have purchased the Mocap Device Plugin then this can be found in your Member Account.

Ahso, the loyal supporters of Rl are duped. We supported RL by buying the Mocap PI and now have to pay the same as anyone else (with discount) for the upgrade. ????? Hu Really..... Not to mention we have to buy a new Xbox one since our original mocap devices will not work with it. Also the xbox one will not work on USB 2.0 ????

OK, I guess it is just about making money, hu and not taking care of your dedicated loyal supporting customers. As people will talk about this on the net it may also defame Rl from future customers, thats reality. So have it your way. I for one am very disappointed . After all we have been through with the original conversion to IC 6 , waiting so long for the original included IC6 components and now this ?? It is just not good business for RL or fair to the ones who had purchased the original Mocap PI.

I am  also disappointed that when we spend over $100 a month we get a discount in the store....that is only good for 10 days. HU? Really, OK thanks for that, Yes we are all rich and can afford it within those 10 days.....NOT. The discount should be able to be used during that full month. ie; Spent $100 in OCT so the discount should be for all of NOV.

We love our iClone and RL Products but these things mentioned here are not good for anyone. It hurts us all. But having said that, does it really matter? Business is just business and that is about making money anyway possible, right? Why should RL be any different toward those that support it so it can grow and continue to develop its products?

Take it or leave it, right? No choice here. So is business. Welcome to Earth!

So which is best? Xbox one or Xbox 360?
I am not familiar with either. I have the MS Kinect V1......for the trash can now?

According to this chart (supplied by RL):

http://faq.reallusion.com/index.php?action=article&cat_id=011001007006&id=743&lang=

if you are using Win 7 only the original Kinect is supported -- IOW, forget about upgrading your hardware device (whether you update the software depends on whether you quality for the free upgrade or whether you think the new features are worth the $80).

The new Kinect has better resolution and some better features that may or may not be supported by this plugin (but you won't be able to take advantage of it with Win 7 anyway):

http://faq.reallusion.com/index.php?action=article&cat_id=011001007006&id=742&lang=

I hate editing things after the fact but to my mind it appears as if RL is still going to supply the OLD plugin for the older hardware.  That's a bit confusing with this new release, so they really ought to point that out to folks.  It also might lessen the "sting" of those who feel like they are getting taken advantage of -- if you have the older hardware you shouldn't upgrade anyway (at least that's how I read it, but it really IS confusingly laid out).

You don't have to buy a new Kinect -- the original one is still supported in this upgrade by RL (it may not have ALL the features of the V2 but that's not RL's fault).  (Again, I'm editing this because it appears not to be the case.  I wish RL hadn't lumped both versions in together without making it crystal clear which worked with what, but if you think of it as being their plugin ONLY for V2 of the Kinect the sting shouldn't be so bad, as this will only affect you if you are going to buy a new device anyway).

And neither is the USB 3.0 requirement -- that's on Microsoft, who requires both it and at least Windows 8 in order to run the new hardware device (so nothing RL could do about it).

By Alien Maniac - 10 Years Ago
OK, I have done some research. BUT

Do we even need to buy the Xbox one unit to use the Kinect with iClone 6? OR just the
"Xbox one  Kinect" w/sensor and the adapter to connect it to your Win PC for use with the iClone mocap program?
ie; http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Kinect-for-Windows-Developer-Bundle/productID.314513600

Also, I am using win 7 Pro now but may upgrade later to Win 10 Pro. Will that be any problem or extra cost later from Rl on the mocap plugin? As I understand it, there are different Windows versions of the mocap plugin by RL. ?????

Sorry but I have never used nor know anything about the Xbox at all. So I am totally in the dark here.
Can someone please enlighten me...... thanks.
By Kelleytoons - 10 Years Ago
You certainly don't need an XBox, you just need a Kinect.  But the version sold by MS only works with Windows 8/10, so if you want to use it with Win 7 you'll have to hunt up an older unit (last time I checked they were going for outrageous prices on eBay -- hmmm, maybe I ought to sell MY older one :>).
By erisku - 10 Years Ago
Hi Peter.

I read carefully all features before  buying and plugin is working OK.

I was hoping next year maybe you would add some more features with an update considering that we are paying for this plugin and the difference in features with V1 version is not big.

I would suggest you consider adding some more features since other third party software have done this a long time ago.

thanks

The big and most important difference from what I understand is that the quality of the motion capture is far better than the previous version and actually usable. The should be worth it in itself.

What I don't like, but that's not RL's fault, that it doesn't work for Windows 7apparently .

By Alien Maniac - 10 Years Ago
AhSO

Thank You Kelleytoons   for all of the information that should have been provided by RL, I DO APPRECIATE YOUR TIME AND HELP. Apparently those that know don't think it important to let us that don't have a clue know. Not everyone knows what they do and we can not read their minds. LOL

So, time to upgrade to Win 10? Humm I did it once on my MSI780DX and had so many problems I had to get rid of it completely and buy Win 7 Pro upgrade from MY original Win 7HP (to run my 32GB ram) and that is where I am at now. Do I take a second chance on Win 10? Perhaps not. I think I will need to sell both my MSI laptops (780DX 32Gb Ram and 680DX 16gb Ram) on ebay to upgrade to a new MSI with all the goodies before I do anything else. The 2 MSIs are limited with the graphics GPU 570M Nvidia 1.5 cards. I have discovered that the 32GB Ram sys runs so much better and faster and hardly any crashes........ BUT they are 2011 models. So.....

I guess if one wants to continue we must keep moving forward and upgrade everything constantly. doh!

I've been using both for a while, and Kinect for Xbox is more easy to work with and more accurate compared to the old 360. But of course that also can depend on which software you're in. I have not tried the new one in Iclone 6 yet, agree on that to hear about upgrade price was not so fun, feels like I did not have time to use the old one a lot before it was time to buy the new version. But at least the price is lowered now. Think you will like the Xbox one version.

As I suspected, you can't turn all the way around with the iClone plugin, even though the Kinect does offer that capability in other software.

It looks like a decent first pass, but I really think they could take better advantage of ALL the things the Kinect V2 can do -- facial capture is one of them.  Even just basic mapped to emotions would be great.  But it's fun to play around with and I'm sure I'll find a use for it (truth be told, I have SO many motion files now it's hard to imagine needing more or custom ones).
By brothertcoleman - 10 Years Ago
I've just tested the Kinect Xbox One version and its better than the first version but still not that natural looking.
The wrist rotation is kind of jerky but improved,I wish it could register finger movements or make a fist.

Reallusion is on to something here as they improve it in time.

One issue that's disappointing to me is the imotions  from iClone 6 still cant be copied or used with CTA2 Pipeline.
The  imotion files look the same as the ones in iClone 5 but fail on import.
https://forum.reallusion.com/uploads/images/45e4d3c7-df1d-476c-9a94-6263.png

OK now that I have purchased the Xbox one Kinect for windows and the RL IC6P Mocap upgrade plugin program........

NOW I see another new  "Iclone Perception Neuron Mocap program in Beta" for using the PN Sensors and software.....Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

does that mean we will have to buy another different RL IC6 Mocap program to use the P Neuron sensors?

What is going on here? Our current recent upgraded IC 6 Mocap will not work with the PN sensors? OR what?
If it will why the new Beta already? Kinda confusing.

AND Is RL going to offer us any package deals on the PN sensors? OR are we just on our own to buy direct from them??????

This new Nov 1, 2015 RL Youtube video says nothing about a NEW Beta Mocap program to use the PN sensors..

I don't really understand because it's like wonder Reallusion sell us a kinect 360 .....For know the beta Neuron plugin is free. I hope it'll stay like that :-)
By Rampa - 10 Years Ago
each type of sensor requires a different plugin. If they were to do a Leap Motion sensor just for hand capture, that would require another plugin. There is no universal plugin for all devices.
By animagic - 10 Years Ago
Perception Neuron is a completely different approach than the Kinect as it requires sensors on the body. So it is unrelated to the Kinect Mocap and requires its own plugin. RL has been working on it for a while. Initially PN was offered at a reasonable price, but after the launch that price was bumped up substantially. There is not much RL can do about that, but they may be able to get a deal, if PN gets their production problems sorted out.

The Kinect Mocap uses a kind of camera and is a low-cost option that is an improved version of the plugin that was already available for iClone 5. Initially it would not have been available for iClone 6, but people have been asking for it, so here it is. With the new Xbox One camera, which has a better resolution than the old Kinect, it may actually be usable.
By innocia - 10 Years Ago

By animagic - 10 Years Ago
I still have an old Kinect Xbox 360, which I never did anything with as I don't have enough space. I bought the new plugin because it was on sale. Now it seems that the new Kinect would be well suited for my primary use, which is adding gestures to dialog. The only way to that convincingly in my mind is by capturing motions while the dialog is being spoken or while listening to a recording of the dialog (in which case I would do the gestures myself). Does anyone use Kinect Mocap in this way and/or does this sound this feasible?
By Kelleytoons - 10 Years Ago
Yeah, just tried it and it's certainly feasible.  Remember you won't get finger movements (so you'll need to spend some time editing your hands) and the movements aren't exactly subtle, but you can definitely load up an audio file and, during capture, hear all that's going on and react to it.
By Kelleytoons - 10 Years Ago
I'd also recommend, doing this, that you allow yourself some "lead time" into your clip that you're trying to perform to.  I kept trying to create something to show you but got frustrated because the audio started right away and I wasn't *quite* ready so my actions were always a bit behind.  In point of fact, I think the best thing would be to loop the audio three or four times, and use that as your track, so you get a few "takes" in order to get everything the way you want (if you watch RL's demo of the KV2 you'll see them doing just this, doing three or four takes of an action and then using one they like).

I need to do more of this -- it's pretty fun to play around with mocap.

As a first step I upgraded my laptop to Windows 10. To my surprise it went smoothly. I don't dare upgrade my main work PC though, as I am not sure everything on it is compatible.

My hope is to use the laptop for auxiliary tasks, such as Kinect-based Mocap. If that works well enough, I feel it may make sense to have it portable. For example, I still need a flamenco performance for an old project idea, and I can't do that...:crying:

Eventually I hope to acquire a laptop that is powerful enough to be a full-fledged iClone workstation, so I can travel with it.

I have a question, if anybody is still monitoring this thread. I know the Xbox One Kinect connects to the PC via USB 3 (using the special cable). My laptop has only USB 2. Would that be a problem?
By Kelleytoons - 10 Years Ago
Yes, it will not work without USB 3.0.

It also won't work with *some* USB 3.0 ports -- my own (new) laptop has four ports and there is only one that works (I get errors reported by the Kinect checker -- which, BTW, you can download and it will tell you whether your hardware and software meets the requirements.  Don't have a URL handy but if you can't find it in a search let me know).

And (one more stipulation) even on a USB 3.0 port that works you can't have much, if anything, else on that port.  It needs a LOT of bandwidth, and that's the principle reason you can't run two Kinects on the same PC.

So you'll either need a new laptop or need to use the Kinect 360 (assuming you can find one -- I may eBay my own just to see how much I can get :>)

Thanks, bummer...:crying: I have a Kinect 360, but that is sort of a dicey proposition. I have a laptop planned, but that will not be overnight.

My work PC has Windows 7 and USB 3 ports, but I'm a bit hesitant in upgrading to Windows 10. We will see...

I have done much research on the Kinect V2 and found that so many are being reported DOA. I bought one on Ebay and had to return it because it was defective. (We tested it on 5 computers.) The problem with buying on Ebay is if you have to return anything it can take weeks to go through the process.

Having said that, MS store is selling them now for $99 new....nice.

I have decided NOT to use it and must now sell the Windows Kinect cables, I paid $60 for it. If anyone needs one.

You should try your 360 with the free version of Brekel.

Or the ipisoft software -- it actually has a much better trial (unlimited 30 day).

I see that the Kinect for Xbox One is $99.99.

This may be answered already but I was wondering,

Would I have to buy Iclone Kinect Motion Plug-in ($79.99) and the Kinect device for Xbox One ($99.99) OR Do I just buy Iclone Kinect Motion Plug-in?

Thanks
By Alien Maniac - 10 Years Ago
YES hcameron90

You need:
1. Iclone Plugin for Kinect Xbox (This allows you to use the Xbox Kinect sensor)
2. Kinect Xbox Sensor
3. Xbox WIndows connecting cables (for a PC) - I have a new one for sale cheap):
By Kelleytoons - 10 Years Ago
But let me be clear here -- if you go this route (you can get brand new cables for $50, so for used let that govern your thinking) don't get the iClone software without trying out at least the two other major Kinect sensor software packages.

I've got a thread here that describes my experiences with all three, and at the very least you ought to read it before you spend any money on software (buying the Kinect V2 sensor and cables is a Good Idea, though, IMHO).

I think I will first try what can be done with the iClone plugin and the Xbox 360 Kinect then, both of which I have anyway. I'll keep all your valuable comments in mind, though. It's just that I don't want to spend too much time at the moment as I will be moving to something else in the future. My needs are simple, just gestures during dialog because that is the hardest to get right using motion clips.

By Kelleytoons - 10 Years Ago
Right, I was responding to HCameron.

I don't know if the new version of the plugin that works with the 360 has it but if it's like the V2 version you can just select upper body only, which is about the only thing it does that nothing else offers and may work well for you for just gestures.  However, the frustrating thing about the iClone plugin to me was how poorly it recognizes the upper arms whenever they cross the body, let alone when they cross each other.  In this regard the iPi software is perfect.

iPi also has a demo verson of their $99 software (well, it's $99 per year but if you have other solutions down the road this is a good stopgap) that might work perfectly for you.  It works with the 360 and while it won't do turnarounds it tracks arms and legs perfectly otherwise.  At the very least you ought to download it and check it out since it won't cost you anything to try.

Dialog gestures are indeed the thing I am most looking forward to doing, but it's also just very simple, subtle things.  I have TONS of mocap clips for all the action stuff in the world I'd ever need, but so few that have movements that say "this character is really alive".

I'm reading the online manual and I came across this:

If the computer where you installed the plug-in and the Microsoft's Kinect depth camera is on an intranet, and you                   wish to share the device with another computer where iClone                   is installed, then you need to write down the IP address of the shared computer.

So does that mean that the plugin can be on a separate computer that doesn't need to have iClone installed?

By Kelleytoons - 10 Years Ago
You're talking about RL's plugin, right?

I have no idea -- I can't really test it because the computers I have the ability to use Kinects on both have iClone installed.  Hopefully someone else here can help.

It does have a separate piece that is first fired up (outside of iClone) so perhaps that then alerts iClone it's available.
By animagic - 10 Years Ago
I have to test it but the menu in iClone where you connect to Kinect gives the option Local or an IP address. The plugin requirements don't include iClone, but you would need iClone to record. It doesn't have to be on the same machine, apparently.

is that Kinect for Xbox ONE works with windows 7 pro 64 bit

By frankee - 10 Years Ago
I am disappointed, I bought iclone 6 pipeline with mocap and xbox kinect one. Now I discover that my windows 7system, 64-bit does not.
I'm really disappointed that you give information to sell your products.

From the microsoft site (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=44561) about system requirements:
"Supported Operating System Embedded 8 Standard, Windows 8, Windows 8.1"
Perhaps you could upgrade your system to win 8.1 or 10?
In my experience the new Kinect is not a bad thing to have, there are apart from Iclone's mocap some fun 3D scanning you could do
By Anonymous2020 - 9 Years Ago
This may be old news, but as I was researching the use of the Kinect v2 with iClone 6, I discovered the reason why it will not work with Windows 7. When Win 7 was being written, they did not know that USB3 was going to come along. Win 7 cannot use the increased data stream that USB3 provides from peripherals like the Kinect. Win 10 is able to use it. (Windows 8 is also able to use it, but given the low adoption rate of Win 8, Win 10 will probably be the OS most people will use if they go this route for mocap. Also, don't forget that the free upgrade to Win 10 is supposed to expire on July 16, 2016.)

Hi all, what's the situation with mocap clean up? From what I've read iclone has very limited timeline/ sequencer/ layering options for intermediate animators. Is it still true today or has there been any major additions since iclone 6.0 that I'm not aware of?

Wait so after spending nearly 700 on this software I still have to buy this separately. You guys are really nickel and diming people. Is this true?

When the quality of a similar Brekel? When the RL soft would finalize the acceptable level?

When to expect a new version?
Thank you.

Hi,

I am new to iClone (just purchased the pre-order bundle with kinect mocap) and looking for resources to learn how to use this kinect mocap plugin with my Kinect for PC.

I noticed a lot of the videos at the link below say "This video is private" when I try to watch them.  Does anyone know how we can watch those videos?

https://www.reallusion.com/iclone/mocap/learn.html

Also, what are the best resources to get started with the kinect mocap plugin other than the vids on that page?

Thanks

Yes I am having this same issue.  Has Reallusion gotten back to you about this?

The videos that say Private are old iClone 5 videos. For help with iClone 6, please see the tutorial video below and the Online Manual.

Hi,

So I downloaded the trail versions of iClone 6 together with Kinect Motion Capture. Im using Mocap_Plug_in_Kinect_XboxOne_trial.exe on a powerful windows 10 machine. I manage to connect with Mocap_Plug_in_Kinect_XboxOne_trial.exe however its not connecting with iClone6 itself. They don't seem to be communicating with each other, meaning no plugin window is enables or greyed out. So i can get the same results as: https://youtu.be/Q_2N_IthX74?t=45s

If this happening cause I have the trail period?

How far away do you need to be from the kinet? I'm asking because I don't see how you can use the keyboard and mouse if you are standing too far away.

You can use the Body Command feature when you are operating the Kinect by yourself. This is explained HERE
