First short test with Character Creator. Nothing special, but it was fun. I wanted to see how disproportionate I could make my guy. CC seems like a great tool, but I wish I could get more extreme with the character properties.

Actually I see no big difference between Genesis and CC. It depends what you are bringing out of it ...
At the current state there are more morph and content options available for Genesis and you can also make custom morphs and clothes. The big plus of CC is, that you are generating native iClones and hopefully RL is going to offer all the other boundless possibilities as well.

Two Quick Cut Scenes using CC and IC6. I want to use IC6 for web-series and long form animation cinema content and am coming to terms with the workflow and my own abilities. Finding lots of great tools here to work with and can only appreciate all of the hard work put in by the Reallusion Team in getting this done.
First up is a standard walk into town sequence. Live Switched Cameras. Second up is a 30 second monologue now brought to life (in my mind) as two girls in New Orleans one from another planet (think Star Trek, perhaps) complaining to her friend about being accused by another girl for doing something wrong. Standard coverage (Wide to Over-The-Shoulders)
Lots to still learn and finesse - but a good start and with practice (much, much practice), I shall be ready to begin my real time animation long form work in the Fall

I though it would be a problem that we can't use pictures to creat faces, but obviously we can still do it the old fashion way. Good job, reallusion!
And there is no problem to creat Asian Faces, which is very important to me.

Well, I made a reasonable baby, but there is no way to scale it down to baby size. No iClone body scale for CC characters! Still needs a smaller jaw, but that's the smallest it goes. Getting close though.

Nice work! Is this from the basic free version? I'm amazed how far CC can push the style of the characters. Its too bad it won't run on my dx 9 laptop so haven't had time to play with it yet. Need to have free time to play on my desktop at home.

I have seen several comments about CC not being able to generate faces from pictures. I have had many attempts at generating faces from pictures in iClone 5 and it took me a lot trial an error before I began getting anything halfway decent but was never really happy with the results. Here I have taken one of the characters from brothertcoleman's request for the ability to create custom faces in CC in Wishful Features. On the left is a face generated from the picture such as done in iClone5. In the middle is the Photo and on the right is my very first attempt at creating a look alike in CC. I don't think its perfect but after half an hour's work on my very first attempt I think it's pretty close and for me the process is far simpler than the workflow in iClone5. I think CC is a fantastic tool that is more than capable of creating any human face I need as it is right now and it's only going to get better as time passes by. I know everyone is different with regard to their preferred workflow and that is fine with me. But never again will I be using iClone5's face creation from photo's. I just don't get the control over the shape of practically all parts of the face like I do in CC (let alone the body). Great job reallusion PS I bought the Essential Pack which has a lot of extra sliders for controlling the shape of the base characters.

Thanks for your nice comments.
I used the skin that comes with the CC essential pack, so I didn´t adjusted the textures yet. The characters are created by just working on the proportions. If you want to have extreme morphs in CC you have to save your character in iClone first, then reload it and send to CC again. You can repeat this till you have your desired shape.

alemar (9/9/2015) ... you can't edit the character in CC, if you make your own morph and import in 3Dx? is that correct?
The character will work in CC after you have adjusted the shape. You won´t have a slider for the morph you have created in your external software, so you can´t undo this shape adjustment, but all the other morphs that come with CC will still work. Hope this make sense.

Oh really I love Hexagon .It has all tools for modelling and for me it is the easiest and fast workflow ever. Hexagon is a pure Modelling tool therefore I use it in Combination with 3D Coat for the another tasks (e.g sulpting texturing retopo and so on). I have not Zbrush

Working with CC and a short film script I had on hand, I drafted a 7 page web comic to work on my storytelling, compositional skills and coming to terms with IC6, CC and building up the muscle memory required to create comics and real time animated cinema. "That Pale Light In The West" is a short film noir story with adult language and themes - so I shall not post it here in its entirety. You may read it here on my WIP personal blog detailing my discoveries in IC6. I'm enjoying coming to terms with the nuances of the program and finding new ways to work prior to taking on a much larger project this Fall. I believe that exercising before a marathon is imperative - and opportunities like this help me to become a better artist and animator.

Hi, did you run this through a Blender Import of the PMD, and then Export the FBX? I am curious the process? Sorry I missed this the other day. Yes. It was imported into Blender from a PMD file, and exported as FBX to retain the skeleton.

I love that character. Made me laugh. Great job! VirtualMedia (9/11/2015) Joe Dirt is lookin to score some fireworks in this animated toon short. (Comedy Lipsync CC Toon Parody)
The Joe Dirt Character was created in Character Creator, hair in ZBrush, animated and rendered in IClone 6 pro and figured it would be a good fit for the white tank top that comes with CC CC and IC are a character creator and animators dream tools and only getting better.
Thanks For Watching...

How did you create the 4 horns and wings, What 3d program did you use? curious..... The wings area very old freebie Prop of RL (I think by 2010 - Damon-Wings) which are even animated. Only the texture I have to I have done sometime in Hexagon The two horns. Have a replica of horns that I had as a prop times. Unfortunately I can not find the original. Thank you Dragonskunk, Postfrosch for your kind words. It is very much appreciated. I made the uniforms in Photoshop. I downloaded images of WWII uniforms from the web and also used diffused maps from Reallusion's US 2ndRanger & 101st Airborne Pack. I used CC Christian as a standard model for pants and shirt. I turned the shirt into a M41 field jacket by adding 3 props for long sleeves (left & right) and jacket bottom. In order to do this I altered the opacity map of the shirt. I also altered the opacity map of the pants to cut a bloused effect near the boots. See photo.

Hello Everyone! This is my first post at the forum. Just recently acquired iClone with CC pack. So I am a week old "icloner". A main reason I purchased an iClone was to try to animate my doll. I found CC very impressive but I am miserably failing to create a character of my doll thus far. Guess, I should attribute that mostly to the lack of artistic skills. After a few days of struggle I come up with this character. Well, she resembles Phoebe (doll) to some degree, but it is very far from perfection I had expected. Here is a pictures of Phoebe and her character (from calibration).

Animate your doll? I find that both hilarious and disturbing at the same time. It's no wonder RL doesn't want to provide genitalia to it's customers since they'd soon be asking for the ability to underage their "dolls".

Amazing tool... aging a character takes just a few clicks. now to get rid of the 'drawing' look I've found that the best fix for this is to increase the self-illumination of the material to about 20 percent. If you go much higher, it starts to look bad and flatten-out. That's iClone's sub-surface shading method.
I tried reducing the strength of the normal as well, but it gave the wrong effect.
|
By Colonel_Klink - 9 Years Ago
|
Hi rampa. Thanks for the hints. I redid the pic with 20% self illumination and dropped the normals down to 60%. Not so harsh to look at now, which is 100% better.

I am currently recasting a project I am working on with CC characters. I wanted to present what I have so far. The image below was created to show them in some environment; it is not related to the movie.
I really enjoy working with Character Creator. The main problem (as reported in the CC Issues thread) is the interference between CC avatars and terrains. I found a workaround where if I load the characters before adding a terrain, the characters behave normally.

rampa (11/1/2015) Does it work if you just replace the terrain, with the avatars already in place? That's what I meant, I think... The crucial part is that no terrain is present when loading the avatars. For existing scenes, I have to remove the terrain, add the characters, and then add the terrain again.

That is interesting as several others have been able to.
Try this:
- Load the Broken House 3D Scene.
- Drop Cristian and Natalie anywhere in the scene.
The result should be pretty spectacular:
It seems that somehow the lower clothing is problematic.
|
By Rampa - 9 Years Ago
|
That did it!
So, then I wondered if it was something to do with the bounding boxes. I tried loading a mesh terrain, and checking the box for "bounding box", and got the same distortion. Then I tried adding some primitives to an empty scene and converting them to terrain with the bounding box on. When I added Christian, there was no distortion.
Back to terrain with bounding box: If I added Christian outside the terrain on the grid, he had no distortion. So, it seems that uneven terrain with a bounding box distorts CC avatars when they are placed on it. The "Old House" has some uneven terrain with bounding boxes on. It is the dirt piles, I think.
The 3D scenes have all objects as terrain.

I had already started the cast for my project "Colour Blind" in Iclone 5, and sort of hesitated recreating them in IC6. However I took the plunge and have decided to create the main characters again, giving them a higher definition look. using CC is a lot of fun, except when forgetting to make incremental saves to the characters to enable aging over time.
The following two characters have been done entirely in CC with the use of external pictures stretched and manipulated in Photoshop.
As I said it has been fun but the only peeve I've found so far with the process is the limited morphs on certain facial alterations in CC which means having to go back and forth from IC to CC to make extra changes.

Hello Everyone! This is my first post at the forum. Just recently acquired iClone with CC pack. So I am a week old "icloner". A main reason I purchased an iClone was to try to animate my doll. @MistaG I only just noticed this thread (way too many departments on this forum), and despite being amazed at how flexible Character Creator is (wow), it's really your post that caused me to reply. I love people who go against the flow like that, who couldn't care less what others might think - so a massive thumbs-up to you
As soon as I saw your post I thought to myself, man, there's gonna be some comments about that one, and sure enough there was. I know that in places like Japan for example, those dolls are big-time popular, but some cultures just haven't caught on to the love doll thing yet. To be honest, I was gonna buy one myself many years ago when I first started learning photography, thinking she'd make a great alternative to a real model, something to pose and practice glamour photography on. I know some of those dolls are incredibly realistic and would easily pass for a human if the lighting was carefully set up, like this one :
https://secure.realdoll.com/?projects=Olivia-realdoll2-config-2
She's way too pricey for me, but I'd freaking love to have her in front of a camera, I'd have a whole bunch of them if I could afford it. Anyway, nice one, MistaG, your post made my day and you did make a good job of capturing her with Character Creator - she's a hottie!

I am logged in with my reallusion account after checking updates though. Thank you for the warm reception ! You are right, not many people appreciate the idea of having a doll(s) around. Some do... Stacy Leigh is one of them. She is one of the best doll photographer and author of Ovilia pictures from the link you have posted as well as owner of dozens of other dolls. I am on the other hand could afford and have space for just one:rolleyes Ok, now I risking to get a whole bunch of dislikes on youtube, but I am going to do it anyway. Something I put together last year. It is very far from perfection and is full of quirks .

This is a portrait created using a pair of the high-res photos provided by RL (Oxana). Head created in CrazyTalk 8 Pipeline and then further enhanced in CC. Render done in iClone.
I used real-time smooth, which helps in rounding the shoulders. I played with the lighting to get the illumination right. I also added a bit of self-illumination to the skin.

As to buxomness: this can easily be adjusted in Character Creator using the appropriate morph slider (I don't know the specific slider off hand).

I'm a rookie to Character Creator and have just recently downloaded it but I love these little cartoon characters you can build with it - I haven't bought any other packages for it yet but it's way to cool and I look forward to 2.0 - Not a great piece of art but kind of a funny cartoon like figure from CC.

Looks good to me rguy. I started trying to make my avatars using CC more now but am still learning. The reason is that when I try to use an image to make the characters head, the image is never high enough quality so the results are bad. The people I try to create avatars from don't necessarily pose for pics as I am playing around for fun at their expense. And they know it. So with the 100 head pack I try to fine a head that is as close as the person I am trying to create and morph it into shape. Takes time but the results are much better than the image to head method. I hope RL comes out with another 100 head pack for CC so I can get some different starter heads. TS

The Same Avatar As A Explorer ! I started to buy the 100 head pack but I didn't - I kind of thought I could make a million different heads like I've done in DAZ from a single head form - and would try to go for the clothing later - I did watch the tutorial on creating life like lighting for the 100 head collection which was pretty cool - I always love the point lighting for strong facial realism and would like to see Linear Point Lighting in Reallusion ! - I'm really impressed with the versatility of the standard CC program ! Here's a render of my latest character - I thought it was pretty solid with the standard render engine in IClone - I didn't get a Pirate Yet , so I created my own - lol

@Christy0
A nice movie. That must have been a lot of work to create so many CC Characters. I also saw beautiful waves on the beach. Maybe you will tell the secret.
Best Regards, Arie

Best Regards, Arie Thanks pinguintje, Yep, a bit of work, but was fun finding my way round CC and seeing what it was capable of. So much I know about it still.
The Cool waves are part of GrannyJ's under the Boardwalk set. It was great having the ready made beach to just be able to put your iAvatars into. http://city.reallusion.com/ContentPreview.aspx?i=JIC94aecb2d2072c6753
