Left field here, Google is getting into the 3D Rendering business. Don't think I would ever pay for render time (I'd invest in hardware) but this is interesting and makes me wonder what the future of 3D Rendering will be like.

Google must see a buck in it and when it comes to web traffic they would have access to statistics to help them make an informed decision LOL. Perhaps for architects/city planners that take up a whole floor in a skyscraper utilize the services on a large scale already.   I have the option through Renderman  and did click the button and check it out I can't recall the figures but I remember I didn't fall off my chair in fright. I could see how a big biz would not even consider their own render room and the cost of maintaining it. After all just about eveything is subbed out these days so unless they had concerns about the security side of things I think it will become the norm in some sectors if it hasn't done so already

Yes, I'm sure Google see's opportunity and no one in the world comes even close to the computing power Google has so I guess it makes sense for the right people / studios.
