Hi Everyone, We are pleased to announce that we will be upgrading our forum on the 4th May 2015 to the more modern and feature packed InstantForum 2014 software. This new software features RWD (Responsive Web Design). This means people can browse or edit the forum on mobile devices and the layout will adapt to fit their screen resolution and provide a smoother viewing experience. This long overdue upgrade will also offer better support for a variety of different browsers and allow Internet Explorer 11 to work without requiring compatibility mode to be turned on. The switchover will take place on Monday 4th May so you may experience some downtime during this move. We hope the process will not cause too much disruption but we do apologise in advance for any downtime you may experience on Monday. We really hope you will like the changes and look forward to seeing you all on our new forum soon. :)

In the meanwhile, I wonder where on this earth Ken Coon disappeared... I miss his daily problems ( e.g. the refrigerator caused a short with the PC and I lost my latest project ;):P )

Hi All, I have some remarks about new forum looks: 1. All text in posts has a lot of extra empty lines and this made it very hard to read. 2. What with user's avatar pictures? Some of them simply gone... Hope these issues will be fixed.
Cheers
EDIT: Text format issue presents only in posts made on "old" forum. New posts (like this one) looks normally
P.S. And my wish -- Will be good to have the possibility to switch to alternative, more "compact" forum skin. By my opinion current (default) new forum skin have some disproportion between text size and big size of UI elements (buttons etc.). Will be good if in "compact" forum skin all UI elements will be smaller :)

You can choose "Explore" and then select iClone from the tree structure on the right. This will then just display the iClone forums.

Ah. I didn't notice the scroll bar on the right hand side of the "Explore" window. But the colours don't make it obvious and again it is a multi-step process to reach the iClone foums? Seems like another backwards step for the interface.

Looks like the UTC timecode was a little off, but it appears the new forum is up and running. It may take some time to get used to the interface, but I'm sure I'll muddle through.
It appears all attachments are now Temporary? All with Time Limits? So older posts are going into archival dungeons even if still relevant? ::blink:

I'm really loving this new interface for the forums!
It's so much more friendly than the old version...
Love the "Like" option, which I wish I'd been able to use for aaaages...
Aside from the pop-up window from "Liking" a post (because the pop-up is so horribly obstructive, time-wasting, redundant, frustrating and discourages me from Liking any more posts until I can find a tick-box to switch it off).... I've just found over 30 brilliant packs by my favourite developers that I wasn't able to find via searches of their stores or by keyword searches in the past year...
Now all I need is a downloader that can handle orders that are longer than a page, and I'll be poor again for another year, LOL

p.s. Hey guys, something I've often wondered about these forums...
what is an "achievement"... how do you work out a reputation?
and can we please get hotlinks to more-info pages about these terminologies in the left-hand menus of our profile pages - where the words currently appear?
Oh, and is it possible to switch off the pop-up from "liking or rating a page please? Because that got old very fast, and I checked my settings tab for possible ways to do it, but then I saw something shiny in one of Mark's SmallWStudio videos in a neighbouring window and obviously no human can sit still after they've been inspired so much by him.. LOL

I followed a few yesterday, but can't click on any today without getting the following error:

The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine. Hi Vit,
You will need to add your avatar picture again I'm afraid.
At the moment there are no plans to allow custom forum skins. This was considered but sadly technical issues with old forum posts prevent it.

Beautiful new forum technologies but............................... the simplifications are annoying.
You've obliterated the means to include basic HTML in our posts at a scripting level and this also denies us the means to self-host images and launch them here hi res inline. It also means we cannot use tabled image slices for graphic manipulation of link delivery on our signatures and it also stunts the ability to have more than a 1994 dullards graphic as the same. We cant post segmented animated imagery for self-promotion and so on and on. Once more the TELEPHONE rules and the polish dulls in favour of delinquent inability.
This also denies animators and modellers to self-script their own hosted videos from their own servers which to me is annoying as I host with the fastest servers in the world and dont intend kissing up to youtube. You've got about four other scripts allowed except basic HTML.
RWD is nonsense . Responsive web design. For the first time in TWENTY ONE YEARS someone decides to re-enact the variable parameter so the the page skitters about and suits the browsers technologies. In 1994 we had simple codes that looked at the users browser, OS and Res and readjusted the website accordingly. Then it got Sloppy. Telephones could see the web and suddenly everything became squinched into the middle third while the world bought WIDE screen monitors pointlessly, websites reverted to pre-1994 style.
It's your neck thats bleeding not mine. You upgraded the cars looks but someone degraded your engine. Dissappointing.
Armstrong.

And, dissappointingly, I have to agree. Everything is becoming massive. Take a look at paypal once you've logged in to see how riddicule worthy otheer sites are also becoming.
Regarding updating/upgrading.... what of basic HTML. I've tried Java, and Perl and cannot table an image in either because your systems obliterate style and other safe code script rendering the code implant useless.
You're clipping peoples wings and rendering the masters as novices again. It's a crying shame.

It does scale pretty well. "Cntrl Mousewheel" scales in Firefox.
The messages adjust to screen width, so just zoom-out your page a bit, and it'll keep the messages set to the window width, but be larger or smaller.

Zooming in and out on the page affects the text size, but all that empty space is still there and even looks worse zoomed out a bit. Plus make the text too small and the gray of the text becomes very difficult to read on the black background. I'm keeping to my original opinion, hate the new forum.

I would be opposed to making the base font smaller as it was too small with the old forum. It's better now for me.
However, RL should consider the option of different color settings, which is within the capability of the forum software.

I apologize is someone already mentioned this issue ... Forum does not update Topic status (icon) if new reply added, it always stay "No new replies" is this topic have been read in the last visit. The same happened with the status of sub-forums. This makes a bit hard to find new posts and replies. Also I'd like to request "Mark forum as read" as in old forum. Current forum has no such option in "Forum Options" drop down menu. Cheers,

I was hoping the new forums would allow you to block the posts of specific individuals. Since there are a few long-established trolls on the forums who frequently hijack other peoples' threads in order to insult others and carry on their own personal agendas. It makes learning iClone slower and less fun. Was it a conscious decision not to have any moderation on the forums? I get most of my useful information from other on-line groups for this reason.

By "path" I mean something like: Home > Reallusion > News & Announcements > Forum Upgrade Coming (4th May) (Not much value added by including "Home".) ..... I also notice a nearly random use of "Circles" (no new posts) and "Dots" (new post) on new posts that I know I have not read. Has anyone else noticed that, or is it just me?

Myself, I do not like the changes. But, yeah, it will take some getting used to.
So far, my biggest issue is how the forum obfuscates the date of forum posts - or even the date of a member's last activity. Is there some security reason which necessitates giving a roundabout estimate of "6 hours ago" or "Posted Last Year"? To say that such is imprecise would be an understatement. I've participated on a lot of different forums over the years, but I've never seen one that tries this hard to obscure times and dates.
I think it's already confusing some people. I saw a new reply recently to an old thread from last year with the context implying that something announced would be soon. With dates obscured, how can we tell when replying to something would be considered thread necromancy?
